LOL whoops
I wonder if I'm thinking of a different series where Saks played through a significant injury - ? Ah, memory is a tricky thing.
I think Saku may have gotten hurt in those playoffs as well, either late in the Boston series or at some point during the loss to Tampa in the following round. -

Years ago, on this very site, I crunched a bunch of numbers on Koivu and discovered that he produced like a PPG player, except that he would have long slumps of, like 10-15 games per season where he would basically produce nothing. 🤷♂️ Hence the endless argument over whether he was a #1A or a #2C.
The other thing about him was that (with all due respect to Commandant) he was a playoff beast. I mean, he put Joe Thornton in his back pocket even while playing through a cracked rib.
The tragedy of Koivu, as I’ve lamented many times, is that he was never the same after his knee was destroyed. I am sure he could have been a top-10 player if not for that. He was that dominant before the knee injury.
Thornton was the one with the bad ribs (torn cartilage prior to the 2004 series).

Perhaps, not sure who they would target. I would like to see them move up in the draft using that pick and other assets but that rarely happens.
At this point in the season we didnt think they would target either Dach or Newhook. Thats the thing, the pool of potential players via trade is large.
I just look at it this way... HuGo know that they need anothet top 6 forward. If its clear to us, it is of course clear to them. Then i look at the UFA list and there arent many good options there. So i think they are going to try and make a trade for what they need.

That seems overly strong. With “all that’s gone down,” it was between the teams, not KK and Montreal.
I may of forgotten something but I don’t believe KK spoke bad about Montreal or his departure, so I don’t see why he would be blacklisted from playing for Montreal again. Not that I think he ever will for completely different reasons.
Hes never gonna put his tail between his legs and rejoin the Habs. There is just too much that went on.
1. We arent trading for his full contract and Carolina would buy him out before retaining on his contract as that's cheaper, so hes not coming here via trade.
2. If bought out, hes not signing here as a UFA. No way when he could go anywhere does he come here.
So any belief that he comes back is misguided IMO.

Commandant, who do you like in the 23-25 range should Montreal keep the Winnipeg pick and that's where it falls?
I would like to see Montreal trade up using that pick as part of a package as the "consensus" seems to be that the top 13 or 14 are really strong this year. Your thoughts on that? Thanks
I think its more likely that pick is used in a dach/newhook style trade. Probably for a winger to play with Dach/Newhook

Averaging his Elite Prospects rankings (throwing out high/low and Central Scouting) he seems like a consensus 8th overall pick.
Quinn Hughes went 7th and i told you all he was the guy to pick at 3... just saying.

KK is not coming back. End of story. Its never happening, not with all thats gone down.

My guess is because of the overlap with NCAA Men’s basketball.
Still pissed Quinnipiac lost in OT.
Again... the basketball games will be Saturday (semis) and Monday (final)
There js no overlap if they played Friday (semis) and Sunday (final)

Hutson gets the winner as Boston University moves to the Frozen Four. That means the earliest they'll be eliminated is now April 11th since they don't want to go up against the NCAA Final Four.
The final four is Saturday/Monday
I dont understand why they dont play Friday/Sunday.

That is probably true, now if a team offered him 6M would they match? It might be worth it for a team if they had cap room and that 1st round pick was a late one. Carolina has some tough decisions to make.
Remember that any picks given up are 2025 picks, not 2024... as the offer sheet would be July 1st or later (after the draft). So you can assume you have the team to get a late first rounder, but you dont know for sure.
Also all.compensation picks are natural picks (ie the pick belonging to the team doing the offer sheet). You cant trade for a pick and substitute it in. Not saying the Habs will do this, as I doubt it, but if they did, they are giving up their own 2025 picks, not Calgary's.

Its a love tap but the fact he does it from the bench and not being involved in the play suggests a suspension to me. Especially this close to.playoffs the league has to set the precedent that you cant be hitting people from the bench.

I hadn't realized that Suzuki has more goals than McDavid this year. Of course Connor has a few more assists.
McD is unbelievable. Hes at 95 assists, and looks a lock to go over 100.
The only NHL players to ever get 100 assists in a season.
Gretzky (11 Times!!!!)
Mario Lemieux (once)
Bobby Orr (once).
Thats it.... 13 times its been done and only by 3 different players. Pretty elite company.

As an under 25, Carolina can buy out KK at 33% spread out over 2x thr years... so effectively 16.6%.
They have no reason to retain 50%

He did so much better under Ducharme? Wasn't it under Ducharme that he had to leave the team for half the season and the run to the Cup Final.
Lets be clear, I'm not blaming Ducharme for that. It's not his fault. But its curious to say he was "better" under DD when he wasn't even on the team for a huge and important stretch of time.

and a coaching staff that believes in him
He averaged 15 minutes a game in 2022-23 and over 17 minutes the year before.
The coaching staff believed in him.
Really the unfounded attacks on the coaching staff are old and tiresome, you could at least lay off now with Marty's family situation.

Thats pretty much the same PPG as he was doing in Montreal. Hes just stayed healthier.
Hes always had talent.
It was best for both sides to move on as the situation was toxic in Montreal though.

We probably do underrate Harris. He is smart, mobile and has great character. I put him in the expendable category, not because he is bad, just because I think others will leapfrog him as they have attributes that are really important for a defensemen in the NHL (ie size, physicality, offensive skill) while also being as mobile as Harris.
Harris/Kovacevic could be keepers as bottom pairing defensemen. Not sure where Barron fits in, he has some good offensive skill but I think Reinbacher, Mailloux will be vastly superior on the right side and I don't see Barron being a bottom pairing defensemen.
The versatility to play either side as your 5/6/7 D is really more value than we give credit for. Its why Josh Gorges stuck around here so long
-
I think we underrate Harris a lot. His adavnce stats are very good. He also has the versatility to play both LD and RD with little drop off in those stats. He moves the puck well and gets it out of the zone. All of this makes him more valuable than many think.

Even though they are at different levels and age, do you think it is fair to compare Lane Hutson with Quinn Hughes, when Hughes was Hutson's age?
Are they in the same conversation?
I don't think Hutson is quite as good as Hughes, but yes, he's close enough to be in the conversation. At this age though, Hughes was in the NHL.

Its' 4 games and goalies are voodoo.
He was not as bad as he's played here (getting rusty and barely playing due to 3 goalies), nor is he as good as he's played in 4 games.
He's what he always was, a good #2.
-
Who is calling Armia a 2nd line winger. I don't anyone thinks he is one.
He's playing on the second line by default, but I don't think anyone, here or media wise, thinks he's a top-6 player long term.
-
I'd also say that the reffing played a part, there were a number of ticky tack calls against the Habs early, while the Canucks were getting away with some stuff. I mean the trip on Suzuki was a bad call, and then before the Vancouver goal, there was a board battle where a Habs player took an elbow to the face right in front of the ref with no call. Add that into the points CC has above that the team is facing the Refs as one more obstacle and they folded up shop after those ten minutes.

Even if both had them for the full series, there are also different degrees of injuries. Both are rib injuries, but they werent necessarily the same injury.
We also have that thornton article saying torn cartilage not cracked ribs.
