Well, without any more championships to draw from over the last quarter century, what the hell else can they use as the basis for these ceremonies? Jesse Belanger Night? Scott Gomez bobbleheads? Pierre Gauthier Celebration Night - ? Remembering the 'great' run of 2010? Holy slim pickings, Batman.

Easy. No more ceremonies, until there is something to be ceremonious about.

I would contract the team and award Ottawa an expansion team so long as they find a new owner. Do a draft for their players and start fresh.

Good idea. This situation eerily reminds me of the post lockout Expos.

  3. It's almost like Melnyk is trying to lose his fan base ahead of moving the franchise. Soon he'll have no resistance or backlash when the time eventually comes. The league should step in and do something about this. The Sharks are a scary team. Martin Jones might be their only weakness.. and that's a pretty strong weakness.

  4. Well, if anyone is going to trade Draisaitl, it's Big Pete!

I think I'm of the same mindset now. Trade Price & Weber along with Pacioretty, and do this thing right. Get more picks for this draft coming. So that the prospects are all in the same development process. Having Kotkaniemi, Poehling and co. are wonderful. But another wave of solid prospects could set this roster up pretty nicely in 2-3 years.

Hey maybe we're wrong and they'll go Hasek & Chelios-esque into Canadiens lore.

..but I have a reeaallllyy good feeling about Lindgren. Part of me really wants Price traded for a monumental return. These next 2 years are basically botched. Give Lindgren the starts, let him get experience for when the roster fills out properly. I'd love him to sign a 6yr 2m per. Just to be a solid backup, but I think he's too good for that, and he knows it. If anything I'd be trying to gouge Minnesota for thier local Lindgren. I'd be ready to move on from Dubnek very shortly.

  5. I've always thought that a blockbuster between Montreal and Florida would've happened by now. For the obvious Bergy/Tallon connection. I really don't recall any trades that came from this previously promising aspect of MB arriving as GM. Maybe one involving a young local dman. Besides this, I think it would do wonders for the Florida franchise. Having ex-Habs on a team that has such an influx of Quebecers during the winter. I really don't know exactly how much it would change things. But if say, Pacioretty Byron Lernout & Lindgren are starting for the Panthers. Aaand Pacioretty becomes Captain.(Super-duper-stretch) I personally think this sells more tickets in Florida. So, what mega-deal with Florida is good for everyone involved?

Pacioretty isn't signing an extension that allows you to trade him to any team

He is going to want a NTC that allows him to pick his destination

He isn't signing long term just so you can trade him anywhere

    Thanks. You're the best.

  7. As me Grampa would say. Shit or get off the pot.

Sell or spend. Im not sure wtf is going on here. And, were gonna be real bad. But carrying aging superstar assets we could mega cash in on. For?

Come on guy, take off the rouge et blue glasses.

If only the Expos would come back, I could find some kind of hope

If the Canadiens are intentionally going to be this bad, Im not sure how many more reasons I have to stay in this shitty city.

Soap...or battery acid. it's all good.

Seriously, this is utterly horrible hockey news. You guys can rationalize it away ('they're not guaranteed to win!' 'They have weaknesses!') but the bottom line is the Leafs are now heavy-duty, bona-fide, elite Cup contenders, on paper. Something that they have not really been since 1993. It is the second-worst of all possible universes; the very worst being the one in which they actually do win.

If they do, you will hear about it every day, trumpeted by the CBC and the TO-based "national" news cheerleaders, for the rest of your life. You have no idea what horrors lie in store.

Man. I hear you. I am in disarray. I need a MLB or NBA team in Montreal AAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSAAAAAAAAAAAAPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!

Frankly the only UFA that did want to talk to us is our good friend Plex, everyone else is staying far away.

We need new management and new culture here

No we need less politics in the sport and less corruption in our inept socialist society. Politics in hockey is more prevalent than responsible politics in Government. The Canadiens are just reflection of a failed society. I could go on. But I don't want to interrupt the wallowing.
