  1. The picks are all over the board after the 15th pick. Trevor Lewis selected 17th was ranked 77th by THN. Others are Giroux, ranked 60th and Varlamov ranked 69th by THN as well.
  2. Fischer was not that far off the mark. THN had him ranked 25th. An extra 2nd round pick also looks well. Wasn't expecting Fischer but I like what I hear about him.
  3. If...and this is a big IF. The Canucks can re-sign Luongo to a long term contract; then it is a steal for the Canucks. If he walks in one year then they will be seriously lacking another goaltender. Short term, this is a great deal as both Bertuzzi and Allen had contracts running out next year.
  4. This deal could have "future considerations" attached to it since both players are UFA's next year. If one of them signs a long term deal then the other team may have to add to the trade.
  5. wow, now there is a blockbuster. Wonder who else is being moved with them? It says players added to deal on both sides.
  6. That's really nice, it actually took me 30 secs. The mistakes you made on your other posts were already flagged by other posters. I guess apostrophe's are all that irks you? All of this because I said there was cap room! You seem to have a problem when someone challenges your thoughts.
  7. Strachan was right about one thing...Pronger has officially demanded a trade.
  8. Pat Hickey reported today in the Gazette that the Habs will try to move up into the top 8...but it is very difficult to from the 16th position. This was according to Timmins. They also expect both Brassard and Bernier to be drafted before the 16th pick.
  9. I can't believe this thread has come from one apostrophe missing on a lengthy post. Sure, personal judgements are formed from what you read, see, hear etc...but I actually perceive a person more negatively if I know they judge people on a grammar error as opposed to someone that actually mis-spelled a word. Can't help it. If we are talking about a newspaper article or a published novel etc... then I hold them more accountable to grammar errors...I just don't expect that here. What I find funny is that I believe most of the posters on this forum communicate better than the leader of the most powerful nation. Sorry if I made any errors in this post...
  10. The payroll 2 seasons ago was 38million, it only went down due to the 24% rollback.
  11. Thank you Cruncher Truthmonger was also lacking a hyphen in "reread"... but I understood what he was saying. BTW (By the way), English is my first language...just never thought "chat grammar" on a hockey fan site was so important.
  12. I don't expect them to go to the cap; but it would not surprise me if the Habs payroll reached $40-41 million.
  13. somehow I think the fact that a minor grammar error was pointed out had little to do with the fact that the typo was wrong. It had a lot more to do with the fact that I challenged his thought...which made no sense whatsoever. First I was told I had no idea what I was talking about...probably because I am new to adding comments on this board and Kaos thinks that I must therefore lack in Habs knowledge. When I show them that my thoughts are valid and actually prove it, they try to point out minor details to save themselves embarassment. :hlogo:
  14. I still go with BPA even if it's a goalie...as goalies usually covet the best return in future trades. The team is however desperate for a good offensive d-man prospect.
  15. Sakic just re-signed with Colorado (no surprise) so that is another guy off the market.
  16. Wow, that dawg! Wonder if this is how his wife found out, lol.
  17. yes your right. I said the dollar help Canadian teams finacially...which they can use on slaries if they wish...in no way do i mean it affects the cap. Also your right that the saving is 3-4 mill (which is preety darn good). That being said...good management of money would suggest that the US exchange contracts purchased with a high Canadian dollar significantly help the bottom line for Canadian teams that was not possible 2years ago...when George said what level of commitment of salaries he was comfortable spending. Another point I did not see mentioned on this board was the revenue sharing system the league is using as part of the new CBA. This past season the Habs I believe were one of the teams were considered to be in the top 10 financially and had to pay into the system. Year end figures reported that they have fallen to the middle of the pack and will not have to pay any out to other teams next year...I could be wrong on this but I think it was in the Montreal news at the end of the regular season. your making an assumption that the Canadian teams (other than Toronto) would have spent the league maximum (44 million) on player salaries. Not gonna happen.
  18. that's not what I said. Nor would that make any sense at all :?- What I said was that Canadian teams are fortunate to have a rising dollar. When revenues are in Canadian dollars and expenses are in American it means 6-7 million worth of savings...which if they choose can allow them more room (under the cap) to spend on players if they wish. It is still very relevant under the cap system because most of the Canadian teams do not spend right up to the cap. Montreal would have only gone as high as 38 mill (IMO) if the dollar was still at 70cents...so logic would suggest that if Gillette wishes to invest that money back into the team then he can raise his payroll towards the cap and keep the bottom line. Seriously...the new system was created so that not all teams can go to the cap as the total cost of NHL salaries cannot exceed 54% of revenues...Think about it. B) The new cap has nothing to do with the dollar.
  19. I will gladly accept him. The Habs need someone to counter McGrattan. Downey is a great energy guy but he can't fight.
  20. It is hard to see if that really is Theodore...This website is also the only one reporting it so until I see more proof I am not believing it.
  21. Thanks for updating it Fanpuck...don't know how I missed out on Higgins. I should have known better than to copy the salaries from TSN. I am probably in the minority but I still like Zednik. Ribs I wouldn't even mind letting him go for nothing (not offering him a contract). I am however convinced that Aebischer has good trade value and will likely be moved. To add to the Canadian Dollar bonus for the Canadian teams...I read that (I think MacLeans magazine) that for every 1cent climb in the dollar, teams save about 3-400k on salaries. Since the dollar is now upto 89cents vs the American dollar...and the pre-lockout rate was around 70cents...that gives the teams roughly 6-7 million more per season to play with (or pocket).
  22. yeah I agree, that whoever we hear coming to the Habs will not be...but spending a little extra money on a couple UFA's is not out of the question.
  23. wow, someone can't take any criticism. So I take it you now agree that there is roster room...but you seem to think signing 2 free agents is not in the Habs budget? Well let's look at the numbers...cause they paint a fairly accurate picture. Habs current payroll: Saku Koivu $4.75 million Alexei Kovalev $4.5 million Craig Rivet $2.565 million Radek Bonk $2.394 million Sheldon Souray $2.242 million Richard Zednik $1.9 million Andrei Markov $1.75 million Mathieu Dandenault $1.725 million Steve Begin $1 million Tomas Plekanec $450,000 Andrei Kastitsyn $700, 000 Garth Murray Undisclosed (let be generous and say 700k) Aaron Downey Undisclosed (let's be generous and say 600k) Mark Streit Undisclosed (let's be generous and say 700k) Current total: $25, 976 for 14 players Unsigned players: Huet ~ 2.5 million Aebischer ~ 2.5 million Bouillion ~ 1 million Ryder ~ 1.5 million Ribeiro ~ 1.3 million Perezhogin ~ 800k Komisarek ~ 800k Total of 9.6 million for a payroll of $35, 576 for 21 players Now assuming Aebischer is traded and Danis is his replacement at 800k then that frees up 1.7 million. Ribs is traded freeing up ~1.3 million This give the team $32, 576, 000 of player salaries without Arnott or Langenbrunner. Gillete said that 2 years ago that he was comfortable with a player budget of around 38-39 million before the cap era. Now the big difference between 2006 and 2004 if the value of the Canadian dollar which is saving Gillette a few more million dollars annually. Assuming Arnott signs for 5.3 million and Langenbrunner for 3.5 million then the Habs payroll comes in at 41 million dollars. 2-3 million below the cap. In most of my estimates I was giving the players a little extra money than they will probably sign for less, but the odd one (Huet) may get paid more so it evens out. 40 million dollars is not unrealistic for a Habs payroll under the current economic situation of the league and the canadian dollar.
