I see the Pacioretty haters aren't lining up to apologise. Typical
On another note, it's awesome how much better this team is without Galchenyuk and little Davey. Trade them for a sack of dirty jock straps

Nice goal by Plekanec.
Radulov is an absolute beast
I thought Weber was suppose to be this big mean monster. Give me Subban back!
LOL

Lehkonen for Yakopov or can he be had for less?

Yea, best period in a while.
If a player is struggling, just throw Byron with him and bingo, results.
Yeah Byron is a good little whore going from player to player but leaving his mates well satisfied and confident

"Montreal Canadiens traded Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann to the Chicago Blackhawks for Phillip Danault and a second-round draft pick in 2018"
This looks good in hindsight.

I think there's chemistry with Radulov and Chucky. Get the blender out Therrien!

yeah, we may have feed up space to sign Ladd.
That's not who I was hoping for

If this doesn't produce a cup in 2-3 yrs then it's a complete failure and even if it does then we're still losing the better player but it's forgivable because the cup is the ultimate and it's worth crippling the team if it gets you the prize. Sucks to see Subban gone. Weber doesn't have a 1/5 of the skill Subban's got but I understand there's more to it than that. Maybe Subban was a cancer in the room, who knows. It's ok I've been looking for an excuse to stop watching games anyway. 7-8 hrs a week is a lot of time I could put to better use. This team is going to have to impress me to get me back watching games. The future is right now has never been a more apt phrase because a huge part of this team's future just left town and my gut instinct is it's not going to work. I hope it's part of a bigger plan bringing in some big name help upfront.

Maybe Yak would work on Plek's wing. Pleky could be the brains of the line and maybe instill in him some sense of how to play when you're not shooting the puck. We could go so far as to get him to pull a Gorges and have Yak board with Pleks to see what a professional hockey player does.
Isn't the reason for getting him is so they can reunite him with Galchenyuk to see if there's any of that magic at the pro level? If they're not going to put him with Chucky then I can think of 20 other guys I'd rather waste a 2nd on.

Ahh, he seems to of played fine or OK lately and given the circumstances, I wouldn't worry about his play. He is still a 45-50point d-man, which is worth...?
(Yes shoud pair him with a quicker skater for sure and not make him kill penalties)
You're not worried about his play? You must be watching a different Markov than me. The guy I'm seeing has made numerous blunders since last years playoffs that have lead directly to goals and lost games either due to a brain fart or just being too damn slow. I don't think he's a top 4 anymore. That's leaves a hole Bergevin has to fill. He's still a good powerplay guy but even then he has been responsible for a few short handed against. Now that the games are meaningless he doesn't look as bad but I want him to be good when it's important and he just can't do it anymore.
-
I never thought I would say this, but I'm hoping someway, somehow Markov is gone next season. His game has absolutely plummeted the last couple of seasons to the point where he can't make a pass, never-mind skating at the speed of a sloth. It's not just a physical decline, he seems at times like he has forgotten how to play hockey giving the puck away to the opposition. I don't know if they made him third pairing with protected minutes and used him on the powerplay if it could work because even with the man advantage he manages to look questionable out there sometimes. He's not a top 4 guy anymore, he's too much of a liability and I have always been a big fan of the man but I think he's done, at least in his current role.

Beaulieu seems rather unlucky.

Don't get why Byron is on the top line instead of Andrighetto. I think they had a bit of chemistry going with him there but what do I know
-
As to the +- thing (a useless stat) there are 8 guys on the entire sad team that are 0 or more. Connor Mcdavid is +1 with 45 points for crying out loud. The top guy is a +8. Sounds like a team epidemic to me.
Yes It's mostly a team stat that's flawed but he manages to be near the most minus on the team every year so it can't be a coincidence. The stat means more when you compare him to his teammates.

Dangerous hit from Emelin. I think Emelin is the kind of guy that if he was traded he wouldn't think twice about destroying one of his former teammates on the Canadiens. In fact I think he would probably go out of his way to do it.
-
His numbers are pretty bad. Points per game not much better than Eller and a whopping -88 in 4 seasons. I wouldn't give much for him but I don't think Emelin would do it because some GM would be willing to give more based on potential. If the guy can get 30 goals he might be worth it but he would always be seen as a defensive liability and that doesn't cut it anymore. I think there was talk of trading Eller for him at the deadline but it fell through.

Now the healing begins, and I can only hope Bergevin's first day of the summer is like the last scene in the Godfather:
-Therrien
-Desharnais
-Desharnais
-Therrien
-Tattaglia
-Jewish guy with the bullet through the glasses

Clear out the company accounts.
Yeah and Galchenyuk wakes up with a bloody horse head in the bed sending the signal that he has to be a dominant #1 centre .

I will be cheering on the Caps this post-season.
As for the Habs, I really hope Carey Price looks MB in the eye during exit interviews and tells him in no uncertain terms that he will not re-sign here for any amount of money if the team doesn't improve drastically. Carey has the power to light a fire under our GM's ass unlike any other, and it just may take such a threat to make things happen on a more aggressive timeline.
I like this idea

Well it's all over now. Flyers and Wings both have 85 points and they play each other so one will have 87 points for the last wildcard spot. Most Habs can get is 86. So sad and unpredictable. Can this team recover from this debacle? Surely this has done some psychological damage. I can't see this team going forward with Therrien even with a healthy Price. There has to be a coaching change.
-
At least Smith-Pelly was a legitimate NHL'er who had the potential of being a 3rd line player. The guy we got now is barely AHL level.
-
21-7 is the record this team has to have to make the playoffs (based on the 98 points it took last year). Does anyone think this is possible?
So the logical thing (however cold hearted it may be) to do would be to sit Price for the year, trade away veterans, get a good pick next summer and fill the holes with free agents. Nobody can seriously believe this team can go 21-7 EVEN WITH Price in net. Optimism is a wonderful thing but you have to know your limits. 21-7 is not realistic for this team!!!!!
-
Really mixed feelings right now. On the one hand, love to see them win and still have hope they will make the playoffs. In reality however, it's almost impossible for that to happen and each win just worsens their pick. I hate this season.

Does it make me a bad fan if if I'm not sure if I want our team to win? Slash and burn is sounding like an attractive strategy these days. Trade Pleks for a 1rst, Markov for 2nd, Eller& Emelin for 3rds. These guys got to be attractive to some contending teams. They're useless to us now and they're value is going down daily. I'm not optimistic.

Well lads this is the most consecutive posts I've ever made but it's time for bed. Life does go on. Ciao.
Can Danault possibly be the 2nd line centre going forward?

Is he good enough? Can he provide secondary scoring? His defensive game is sound and he's still young and a first round pick. Plekanec is as good as gone by the trade deadline or at least that's the talk. Desharnais? Not going down that road again I hope. Do they bring someone in, find a solution from within or can Danault be the answer. He's having a good audition so far but what will he be like not playing with Patch and Rad? Inquiring minds want to know. I have my doubts but I wouldn't be surprised either because I like the kid and see potential. Just don't know if he's 2nd line material.
