  1. It's that time again, NFL season is coming soon. Last year, some members of this board were involved in a pool and I was wondering if there are intentions to do so again this season. I'm interested in having a pool again, although it seems the site we used last year is no longer hosting a free game. ( http://fantasy.nfl.com )

Yahoo, however, has a NFL pool that's free that doesn't seem too bad. ( http://www.yahoo.com/s/25496 )

Anyone know of any other sites that run free pools? Is there anyone else interested in participating in another one of these, or is willing to become the commissioner of one? (I wouldn't mind running one, but I have other committments, so the most I can be is a participant.)

  2. Because it contains Canadian teams and may actually attract viewers, there's no way that ESPN will televise the game. Most likely, they'll show a re-run of the Delaware Dart Championships or something like that.

I do believe TSN will have coverage of the game, so that'll suit the Canadian viewers at least...

  3. As part of the Vintage Hockey program, the Canadiens will wear a white jersey modeled after the one they wore in 1945-46 and a red jersey matching the style they wore in 1958-59. The other clubs participating will be the Boston Bruins (1967-68 version jersey), Los Angeles Kings (1980-81), New York Rangers (1976-77), St. Louis Blues (1979-80) and Vancouver Canucks (1972-73). The Blues and Kings meet in Los Angeles Nov. 15 in the first of the Vintage Hockey program games, which will feature other "turn back the clock" activities.

The Canadiens, one of six teams participating in the Vintage Hockey program, will wear throwback jerseys in selected contests, such as the "Heritage Classic." The Oilers also will wear a vintage jersey from the 1979-80 season for the outdoor game, which will follow a game between alumni from Edmonton, led by Wayne Gretzky and Kevin Lowe, and a team from Montreal, led by Guy Lafleur.

It better be because he's injured, as Stokes' performance on Saturday certainly doesn't merit more playing time. (He had negative yardage and a fumble.) Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing Stokes as a runningback, he's certainly agile enough, although that along with his size are negatives. Couldn't hurt, especially the way we're going through RB's...

Today is the day for European prospects to sign with their NHL affiliate, or else they're obligated by contract to play another season "back home". If a team wishes to sign a European prospect after today, they will have to pay financial compensation to that players' other team (from overseas).

Other European prospects to sign with their NHL affiliates are Antti Miettinen and Mathias Tjarnqvist, who both have signed with Dallas, Niklas Kronvall who joined Detroit, and Jakub Koreis, who signed a 3 year deal with Phoenix. Also, Kirill Koltsov signed with Vancouver, although this occurred late last night and Denis Grebeshkov signed a contract with the L.A. Kings.

I agree though, I highly doubt that the Rangers actually have a budget.

  9. Prospects refers to junior-aged players (18-20 years old.) This means that if we want to sign Kastsitsyn, we'd have to do so before Tuesday.

As for UFA prospects, there's no deadline in which to sign them, as they are, like many others, unrestricted free agents.

  10. The board decided that the league will change to two, seven-team divisions per conference in 2003-04 from the three divisions that each conference had last year.

The Hamilton Bulldogs, St. John's Maple Leafs, Manitoba Moose and expansion Toronto Roadrunners will play in the Western Conference's North Division next season along with Cleveland, Rochester and Syracuse.

Under the new playoff format, the top five teams in each division make the post-season, with the fourth- and fifth-seeded teams facing each other in a best-of-three first round.

  11. It seems you're right puck, it's now officially being called a suicide.

The body was found hanging early Sunday by a belt in the bathroom at a beach resort in Antalya, a southern Mediterranean province popular with Russian and other European tourists. Lyashenko had been vacationing with his mother and sister.

In the note, Lyashenko apologized for killing himself, the paramilitary police officer added, speaking on customary condition of anonymity.

The Anatolia news agency quoted Dr. Fevzi Ersoy, a doctor at the hospital where Lyashenko's body was taken, as saying Wednesday that tests showed Lyashenko did not have AIDS or any other disease, dismissing speculation that Lyashenko killed himself because he had been ill.

The prosecutor's office refused to comment Wednesday, citing an ongoing investigation. However, a Russian consular official, also speaking on condition he not be named, said he had examined evidence provided by Turkish authorities and the death appeared to be a suicide.

  12. I was waiting for you to beat 60 before I posted my next high score, 63. Perfect 1st, perfect 2nd, and I got 14 points in the 3rd (yes I scored on the goalie without hitting his head first).

So, I once again am the king! :king:
