  1. I finally got a chance to read the latest issue of The Hockey News, and something there caught my mind:

The Boston Bruins are reportedly offering W Sergei Samsonov to Florida in exchange for the 1st overall pick.

It goes on to mention that the B's would draft G Marc-André Fleury, as they are pretty much desperate for a goalie.

This trade could help both teams, as Fleury could be the hotshot goalie they so desperately need (Raycroft will never live up to his hype), and Florida gets a big name sniper in Samsonov.

Personally, I feel that Boston may be giving up too much here, unless they truly are happy using Mike Knuble on the line with Thornton and Murray.

One thing is for sure, if this trade were to happen, we'd get a rough idea of what it's going to take to move up to one of the top-3 spots, any ideas on what it would take based on this rumour?

  2. From the games I saw this season, he didn't hit often and when he did, they were completely ineffective, thus making his checking abilities ineffective.

What did you think about the rest of my original post, the Ribeiro comment was only a small portion of it...

  3. My main reason for hating Ribeiro is that in my own opinion, he doesn't try all that often. When he does, he's pretty good, but he just floats around the ice too often for me to like him. Also, the fact that he doesn't hit, play defence and that he's small are also factors. :)

  4. Ribeiro may impress some teams because of his potential to become a solid player, however as you mentioned puck, his size (as well as his lack of defensive abilities) may scare more than a few teams away.

Perreault is the better player now, but again, his size and weak backchecking abilities hurt his trade value.

I would say the best value will vary actually, if it's a team looking to rebuild and/or waiting for the new CBA to arrive for financial stability, than Ribeiro would be the better of the two. But, if it's a more established team looking to add a quality veteran and can afford the higher salary, than Perreault would likely be the way to go.

I feel that we're going to start the season with both on the roster, as both players' values are low.

If I had to choose which one I wanted to keep, I would keep Perreault, as firstly, I HATE Ribeiro with a passion, but also, Higgins may be ready, or depending on who we draft this year, that player may be ready also. If not, we could sign Perreault or another veteran C to fill the spot until someone else is ready. If we still had Ribeiro in the organization, we wouldn't be able to make room for that "up-and-comer", and if he doesn't pan out, we're pretty much stuck with him for the long haul.

  5. Thanks Zow, glad someone liked my idea. If we're SO desperate to put a 'B' in the name, how about then "Saku Koivu's Brutal Revenge"? :hlogo:

  6. It was a heartbreaker, a 4-3 loss to the Wyevale COIS Tribe. We scored once in the top of the 1st (allowed 2 in the bottom), and scored twice in the 7th, however, we allowed 2 in the home-half as well, ending the game (we only play 7 innings.)

Next action for my ballclub is May 22nd vs Perkinsfield (I get the start in that one.)

  7. Break a leg! (Wait scratch that , does it only work when you say it to entertainers?)

Don't worry puck, someone always breaks or injures their leg at some point during the season! :)

    Also, thanks for the well-wishing.

  8. Thanks for the kind words sakiqc.

Thankfully, the success of our season doesn't all lie within our regular season/playoff performance. If we win the tournament we're hosting in August, and do half-decent in the one in June, our coaching/managerial staff will consider this season to be a good one.

  9. I know I know, what a topic especially on a hockey board, but I felt like telling everyone that my first baseball game is tomorrow, please wish me luck, we're going to need it! :)

(I'm playing in a men's league, where many players are twice my age, we're going to get creamed most nights and we all know it)
