  1. I was watching the Pittsburgh feed, and they even admitted that it was a totally legal hit. Nasty though - teaches you to keep your head down, no?
  2. Think they're getting a little spoiled? It's not like their lack of effort isn't amounting to wins. A little losing streak would kick 'em into gear I bet. The good thing is we all know there's better play that can come from them.
  3. from NHL.com The Canadiens / The "Habs" In 1924, Madison Square Garden owner Tex Rickard was falsely told by someone that the "H" stood for "habitant", a French word that in those days was used to denote the farmers of Quebec. Rickard was told that the French players on the team came from the farms and that they were therefore "habitants" or "habs". At the time, the Canadiens were recognized as the French team of Montreal as opposed to the Montreal Maroons, the English team. On a side note, the Montreal logo of the C wrapped around the H stands for Club de Hockey Canadien. In 1917, at the founding of the NHL, the Canadiens changed their name to that from the previous Club Athletique Canadien.
  4. Halak? I think they may be switching backups a lot to give them each a chance to work with Melanson throughout
  5. Espn just updated...moved up one to 4 http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/powerranking
  6. In the book, he talks about looking after his siblings and how in his first year as coach in St. Louis he was so strapped for cash his wife had to take a job at a dry cleaners and they had to stay in Doug Gilmour's apartment for a summer.
  7. Psychological trama caused him not to be able to learn. Really an amazing story.
  8. I totally disagree...teams shouldn't be rewarded for getting to OT, or for ties. To continue promoting scoring, teams should be encouraged to keep pressing at all times. Furthermore, I don't see why ANY team EVER should be given a point for an OT loss...I can see getting a single point for a shootout loss, but if you lose in OT, you should get nothing. On a side note: The Bruins are a perfect example of a team that keeps getting rewarded for ties...they should have 8 points, but thanks to the new system, they're only 5 out of first. Ridiculous.
  9. Simple solution: 2 points for a win 2 points for an overtime win 1 point for a shoot out win 0 points for ALL losses
  10. Definitely not a joke - he's got connections
  11. One other thing about the rankings - I know they've been discussed, but seriously - what are they there for? To me they are an indication on how teams are performing thus far...and weekly analysis is a great gauge, if you actually consider the facts. It's not like we're beating AAA clubs out there
  12. I've watched a lot of Boston games (being in boston and all) and I watch every habs game (thanks to Center Ice package) - and I've got to say...I'll play them any day. They are so slow and sluggish out there. Last night both games were on and every time I went to the Boston game I had to slap my face to stay awake...they were extremely lucky to be in the game with the Islanders...and we were solidly outplaying the Panthers (most of the time)... Anyhow - I guess the point I'm making is why on God's green earth is Boston STILL ranked above Montreal!?!? We're in first and they're in last in the division...I know it's only 5 points, but we've beaten them twice, and well...THEY SUCK!!!!!!!
  13. I don't think they've been THAT lucky...I agree that you can't keep winning 1-goal games and succeed, but I think they just need to work full games. From what I've seen, they've managed to win playing 2/3 or 1/3 games...if they can put a string together playing full time, I think the sky's the limit...they've got great speed, great scoring touch, and as someone was saying on here - they miss a lot of bounces too. Keep it up, boys...let's bring the cup back home
