  7. CANADIENS (25-14-5) at FLYERS (22-17-4) TV: TSN, RDS, CSN-PH Last 10: Montreal 5-3-2; Philadelphia 8-2-0 Season series: This is the final game this season between the Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers. The teams split the first two, with each team winning on home ice. Big story: The Flyers return to Wells Fargo Center for the first time since before the Christmas break. They went 5-1-0 on a six-game, 11-day road trip that concluded with a 3-2 overtime win Tuesday against the New Jersey Devils. Philadelphia climbed past the Washington Capitals and into second place in the Metropolitan Division during the road trip. The Flyers were third in the division, six points behind Washington, when the trip started Dec. 28 against the Edmonton Oilers. The Canadiens are 2-0-1 since blowing a 3-0 third-period lead in an eventual 5-4 overtime loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on New Year's Eve. They are in third place in the Atlantic Division. Team Scope: Canadiens: Montreal learned Tuesday it will be without Alex Galchenyuk four to six weeks. The 19-year-old center sustained a broken hand Monday night in a 2-1 win against the Florida Panthers. Galchenyuk is tied for fourth on the team with 10 goals in 44 games. His 23 points are fourth on the team. "He's an important player on our hockey club," goalie Carey Price said of Galchenyuk. "He's very talented offensively. He contributes a lot to our team. Whenever you lose a guy on your team, it hurts, and I hope he can recover quickly and I'm sure he'll be highly motivated when he gets back." Flyers: Center Claude Giroux scored to tie the game against the Devils at 1-1 at 5:18 of the third period after learning Tuesday morning that he had not been selected to Canada's 25-man Olympic roster. "Anytime somebody kind of takes something away from you, you want to prove them wrong," Giroux said. "I put that behind me though. I have to go on and keep playing. It's a fun game out there." Steve Mason will likely be back in goal for the Flyers against Montreal after backup Ray Emery got the start against New Jersey. Mason was less than a minute from earning a shutout when the Flyers played Montreal at Wells Fargo Center on Dec. 12. Galchenyuk scored for Montreal with 55.1 seconds left, setting up a tense finish for the Flyers, who had controlled the game to that point. Who's hot: Montreal forward Brian Gionta has scored a goal in each of the past two games. He had scored five in his first 41 games. … Giroux has six goals in the Flyers' the past nine games. Injury report: In addition to Galchenyuk, the Canadiens will be without forward George Parros (concussion) and defenseman Davis Drewiske (shoulder), who is on injured reserve. Center Ryan White (upper body), also on IR, is considered day-to-day. … Flyers right wing Matt Read (upper body) did not play against New Jersey, and is considered day-to-day. Defenseman Erik Gustafsson (knee), who has been on IR since he was injured Dec. 21, practiced Monday.
  8. Last 10: Florida 6-3-1; Montreal 5-3-2 Season series: This is the thrid of four games between these Atlantic Division teams. The Florida Panthers beat theMontreal Canadiens the two previous games with a 2-1 win at Bell Centre on Dec. 15 and a 4-1 home victory on Dec. 29. Big story: The Panthers have proven to be a tough draw for the Canadiens recently with a 7-2-0 record over their past nine games against Montreal. The Canadiens will look to break out of a cold streak with losses in three of their past four games (1-1-2), including the defeat at BB&T Center on Dec. 29. Team Scope: Panthers: Florida (38 points) has a steep hill to climb in its attempt to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but can start the move up the Eastern Conference standings by building off a 5-4 shootout home win against the Nashville Predators on Saturday. The Panthers gave up a goal to Nashville center Paul Gaustad in the final minute of the third period, but Florida right wing Tomas Kopecky sealed it with the winning goal in the sixth round of the shootout. Florida interim coach Peter Horachek had a personal stake Saturday when he faced his former Predator team in Nashville for the first time, following 10 seasons as an assistant for coach Barry Trotz. But Horachek was more focused on his current club than he was in reuniting with old friends on the opposing bench. "We just take the points and move forward," said Horachek. "It feels good to beat [the Predators]. I wish them all the best after tonight." Canadiens: With losses in three of its past four home games (1-2-1); Montreal kept it lighthearted Sunday due to a rare open practice at Bell Centre in front of thousands of Canadiens fans. In addition to the typical drills, fans were treated to a skills competition with some Quebec celebrities, as well as a Novice A game between two local rival clubs. Forward George Parros was a guest judge for the skills competition and gave an update on his status recovering from a concussion following the fan practice. "I’ve done some light contact and that’s the next step along the way," said Parros. "I'm taking it day-by-day and we’re getting towards the end but I don't have any particular day in mind." Who's Hot: For Florida, 18-year-old rookie forward Aleksander Barkov now leads the team with 21 points (seven goals, 14 assists) thanks to a current five-game point streak (one goal, five assists). ... Montreal defenseman P.K. Subban(two goals, four assists) and forward Max Pacioretty (four goals, two assists) totaled six points each over their past three games. Injury Report: Defensemen Erik Gudbranson (orbital bone), Dylan Olsen (lower body) and Alex Petrovic (upper body) and forward Jesse Winchester (hand) are on injured reserve for the Panthers. Gudbranson will make the trip to Montreal and is possible to return, while Olsen, Petrovic and Winchester will stay home. ... The Canadiens are without defenseman Davis Drewiske (on injured reserve with shoulder injury) and Parros. Forward Ryan White missed the game Saturday against the rival Ottawa Senators with an upper-body injury and did not skate in practice Sunday.

  17. All that Hamilton (12-14-3) wants for Christmas is a win. That may be hard to come by today as they host Abbotsford (20-9-1-1) who sports the fourth best record in the league. The Bulldogs are catching them at the right time as the Heat have lost three straight. Projected Abbotsford Lines: (based on +/- data from previous games) Reinhart - Street - Knight Baertschi - Olson - Granlund Hanowski - Jooris - Nemisz MacDermid - Eddy - Bancks Billins - Cundari Arsene - Ramage Lamb - Smith MacDonald Projected Hamilton Lines: Blunden - St. Pierre - Andrighetto Holland - Macenauer - Leblanc Tarnasky - Dumont - Owens Courtnall - Nattinen - Fournier Tinordi - Pateryn Beaulieu - Dietz Chouinard - Ellis Tokarski Puck drop is at 3:00 PM, AM900 will have the play-by-play; click the banner below to listen.

  19. It's an early game so we get the early GDT. The Bulldogs (12-12-3) will look to score a goal...and perhaps win a game as they travel to Chicago to take on the Wolves (12-12-2). Courtnall, Thomas, and Andrighetto all skated Tuesday. At least one of them will play by the looks of it (meaning it probably won't be 11 forwards and 7 d-men)...we just don't know which one(s) will play yet. Projected Hamilton Lines: Andrighetto - St. Pierre - Thomas Tarnasky - Dumont - Holland Owens - Macenauer - Leblanc Courtnall - Nattinen - Blunden Beaulieu - Pateryn Tinordi - Dietz Schiestel - Ellis Tokarski Projected Chicago Lines: (based on +/- data from previous games) Jaskin - Bolduc - Mancari Harper - Locke - Rattie Andronov - Cannone - Shattock Longpre - Hanson - Davies Chorney - Shields Hakanpaa - Oberg Edmundson - Regner Allen Puck drop is at 12:00 PM, AM900 will have the play-by-play; click the banner below to listen.
  20. The Bulldogs (12-11-3) will look to get back into the win column tonight as they host St. John's (14-10-3). There's no word yet on whether or not either Thomas or Andrighetto (both DTD) will be ready to return...no word on Courtnall and Quailer either but no one cares about them anyway. Projected St. John's Lines: (based on +/- data from previous games) Jaffrey - Gordon - O'Dell Mouillierat - Cormier - Samson Klingberg - Lowry - Lipon Schnell - MacKinnon - Riley Redmond - Chiarot O'Neill - Fredheim Kichton - Hill Olkinuora Projected Hamilton Lines: (These are a straight guess as with 11 forwards, the lines are forever getting mixed.) 21. For the seventh (and mercifully final) time in this stretch, it's a North Division matchup. The Bulldogs (12-10-3) will look to hold onto 1st place as they host the recall-depleted Marlies (12-9-1). Projected Toronto Lines: (based on +/- data from previous games) Ross - Crescenzi - Abbott Leivo - Carrick - Devane Nagy - Broll - Bodie Staubitz - Smithson - Biggs Brennan - Marshall MacWilliam - Granberg Holzer - Percy MacIntyre Projected Hamilton Lines: Owens - Dumont - Blunden Holland - St. Pierre - Nattinen Tarnasky - Macenauer - Leblanc Zurevinski - Fournier Beaulieu - Pateryn Tinordi - Dietz McIver - Ellis Chouinard Mayer Puck drop is at 7:30 PM, AM900 will have the play-by-play; click the banner below to listen.
