Habs13
*hick* Serge Savard pleads not guilty Canadian Press 11/22/2004 MONTREAL (CP) - Former Montreal Canadiens great Serge Savard pleaded not guilty Monday to two drunk-driving charges. Savard was arrested in September on suspicion of drunk driving after he was allegedly involved in two separate fender-benders. The former player and general manager was represented in court by his lawyer, Michel Massicotte. The next court appearance is March 7. Savard, who is now chairman of the annual Canada Day festivities in Montreal, played 14 seasons with the Habs in the 1960s and 1970s, winning eight Stanley Cup championships. He was part of a dynamic defensive trio that included Larry Robinson and Guy Lapointe. Savard was the first defenceman to win the Conn Smythe Trophy as the post-season Most Valuable Player. The native of Landrienne, Que., won two more Stanley Cups as Canadiens GM in 1986 and 1993. The team also lost in the final in 1989. For all the mistakes he made towards the end of his tenure the man still won 2 Stanley cups as our GM. 2 Stanley cups in the post-expansion NHL is impressive in my books.
