Everybody faces racism? Really?  So most white guys face the same amount of racism as a minorities? Really?  So Crosby faces racism? Sakic faced the same amount of racism as Subban?

This is just deliberately misquoting me.  It says the opposite of what I said in my post.  I have no time for such dishonesty.

  2. I never said that Subban never faced racism.   Everyone faces racism, many face much more than others.  My point was that we don't have any real evidence that PK's problems (which I interpret as his causing us to trade him) were due to his race.

Or what about Pang’s Freudian slip that PK needs to learn to play the “white” way.

Maybe it was a slip of the tongue?  Is this proof Pang is racist?

One time I heard Bob Cole say a player made a "dumb in" instead of a "dump in".   Can we conclude that Cole was biased against that player?  I certainly didn't.  I forget who the player was but if he was from Newfoundland would that make a difference?

Accusing people of racism just because it fits your narrative is very uncharitable.

We had Mike Richards calling him basically uppity and lacking respect to opponents to the media during his first season.  Ive never heard him say those kinds of things about a white player is all im saying.

Oh and Richards career kinda ended in disgrace... getting caught at the border smuggling pills.

Maybe Richards just thought Subban was uppity.  Does every criticism of Suban have to be because he was black?  Even if Richards is racist does this mean the reason we traded PK was due to racism?

  5. I think its very lazy and unfair to just attribute (part of )PK's problems to racism.  We have no evidence at all that his teammates or coaches mistreated him due to his race.  The Habs exec I heard from indicated that his teammates felt he put himself ahead of the team.

Whether he did or not, it is a problem in team sports if your teammates don't have your back.

  6. Man is Lehkonen ever having a great series.  I haven't seen much of the Aves since their cup run 2 years ago but I am really impressed with his play.  This is a guy people said was good defensively but had very little offensive upside.  Was that ever wrong.

  7. For me we took pretty big risks choosing Caufield and Mailloux.  Both risks look to have paid off.  I think its a mistake to take those wins and exchange them for another risk (picking 3rd).  Of course the third pick overall is a safer risk but its still a risk.

When we pick Demidov and he turns out, will we be  trading him and Newhook for the 2026 second overall?  Take the win or eventually we end up holding a bust.

  8. In the 10 Thoughts (which I always love) on tonight's game, Brian expresses some displeasure that the Habs put out our top PP unit during the power plays late in the 3rd.  Normally I agree that teams should not do this when the outcome of the game is already determined.

But tonight I was in favour of it.  If the Panthers are going to goon things up and take cheap shots we shouldn't pull our punches.

  9. I don't think trading Mailloux is realistic.  Whatever team would acquire him will want a discount because of his history.  Its not fair but that is the situation.  We will never get what he is worth.  We have had to endure a lot of criticism for drafting him and trading him would mean we did that for nothing.

Tanev is a 34 year old UFA, it was either sign him or lose him for nothing. I think they got a decent return. A 2nd and 3rd is not bad even if Grushnikov doesn't turn out.

Or wait 10 days for a better offer.  Given the minimal risk in waiting, I think they should have watched to see how things play out.  I'm confident they could have gotten a 2nd and a 3rd anytime they wanted.

I know Calgary wanted a first, but that still seems like a big haul for Tanev. Good work by Conroy.

I think this is terrible for Calgary.  I expect Grushnikov to top out as a number 5 Dman, although I confess I haven't seen him play.   Dallas got Tanev 75% retained for a late 2nd round pick plus some scraps.  Why wouldn't Calgary hold out till the deadline is nearer?  I

That may be true but the Grieg play deserved some sort of reaction (not a cross check to the face).  He was saying FU to the Leafs in their own building knowing they didn't have to play them again this year.

Actually the game was in Ottawa and the fact that 2/3 of the the crowd were Leaf fans was part of the reason he used a slapshot.

I see nothing wrong with the slapshot.  It's legal, it's not dangerous and if Reilly didn't like it he could just start throwing punches.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the hope was there.

To me that was goalie interference and the goal should not have counted.  The Oiler just skates through the crease and kicks Montembeau's stick across Sam's body from his left to his right.  Why is that not interference?

Worth noting, if a team pulls its goalie in overtime and the other team scores into the empty net, the losing team does not get a point in the standings.

I'm going from memory but I believe the rule evolved as follows.

In 1999 they instituted that a team losing in overtime would get 1 point but if there was no scoring in overtime the game ended tied and each team got 1 point.  In 2004 they eliminated ties (by introducing the shoot out).

Thus between 1999 and 2004 there was an incentive for overtime games to not end tied.  This meant both teams might pull the goalie in the final minute of overtime to help ensure someone got the extra point.  To prevent this from happening the rule denying the loser point to a team losing with the net empty was introduced in 1999.  Thus there were no games with 2 pulled goalies.

The rule no longer serves any purpose and might lead to some unfair situation in some weird circumstances at the end of the season.  The rule should probably be rescinded.

Poor Lane though, the stupid ref grabbing him and letting the Swede keep punching him until he had a bloody mouth.

Actually he was cut before the fight started (took a high stick halfway through the 3rd).

  16. Jake Allen ($3,850,000)and Nicolas Beaudin($775,000) for Ilya Samsonov ($3,550,000) and Matthew Knies(925,000).

Not sure if the leafs can fit Beaudin under their cap.  Samsonov is on a one year deal.

Knies is on the first year of his entry level contract.   Maybe Toronto is on Jake's 7 team no trade list?
