CFL Eastern Division Semi-Final, at Olympic Stadium, 7 PM on CBC.

Preview:

It's all about revenge for the Argos, as they've lost to the Als in this semi-final 2 straight years. Not only that, but Montreal defeated Toronto all 3 times this season, including a 58-20 drubbing in the final week of the regular season. Argos Offensive Co-Ordinator Kent Austin says that they ran a simple package in that game, and that the Als will be stunned on quite a few plays in this one. Montreal, on the other hand, is extremely confident about this one, and will look to continue to find holes in the Toronto defence. However, they will have to do so without RB Autry Denson, as his knee injury has not fully healed. Head Coach Don Matthews said that Eric Lapointe and Jonas Lewis will split the carries in the backfield.

Key Matchup:

Bashir Levingston/Arland Bruce III (PR/KR-TOR) vs Ezra Landry (KR/PR-MTL)

Special teams is always a key factor, but this week, it will be even more critical. Levingston led the CFL in TD returns, while "Itty Bitty" is deadly on missed FG returns.

I don't see us losing this game, it might be close (it was last year) but i truly believe the Als will pull through. The Argos O won't be able to do anything against our D and i think the depth of our receiving corps will be too much for the Argos DBs.

The main worry is that the Als will need to avoid turnovers at all costs and contain Bruce and Levingston. The Argos O may not score much on us, but those guys can so if we shut them down, we win.

GO ALS GO

Keys for the Als...

- Get off to a quick start, get the large crowd into the game early, the crowd can make a huge impact on this game.

- Get the running game going with Lapointe, this will open up the passing game obviously

GO ALS!

Argos up 8-7 at the half. Als had marched the ball down the field only to have a botched shotgun snap be recovered by the Argos.

Bruce scored a TD on a kick return, exactly what the Als didnt need to have in this game.

Lions beat the Riders in the west final earlier. If we win this one, Als were 0-2 against the Lions during the regular season so a tough matchup awaits.

It's gut-check time now, as Calvillo joins the list of injured Als. Cavil appears to have suffered another concussion, while Strickland and Durden are also hurt.

Ted White is now in at QB, 9-7 Argos in the 3rd.

White always had a tendency to overthrow during the season, and today appears to be no exception, with 1 INT, and another almost INT. Perhaps it's time to give Lewis and Lapointe a couple of extra carries.

Calvillo is back on the bench, but given the way he went down, I can't see him returning tonight. Hopefully he's giving White some pointers, as the Als are definitely in this game.

Argh, blocked punt! :( (Lousy Mariscal)

Score after 3: Montreal 10, Toronto 9, Toronto has possession deep in Montreal territory.

Prefontaine boots 16 yard FG after good red zone coverage by the Als. 12-10 Argos, about 14 mins left in regulation.

Let's go Als!

Argos FG after the Als punt is blocked. The D is holding up, but now we are behind and White is going to have to score us some points. I'm not sure if he can do it, but we'll find out soon enough.

Arland Bruce = The Als Killer

2 TD's now, one on a KR, the other a receiving TD. 11 receptions tonight.

The Als need to settle down, they're taking too many dumb penalties, and loosening up their coverage too much. No way should Baker get 15-20 yards on a scrambled screen play.

19-10 Toronto

the Argos beat Ted White, not the Montreal Alouettes. What a terrible job he did for us, I'm speechless.

Gah, injuries, mainly Calvillo exiting the game in the 3rd quarter pretty much killed any attempt at building momentum in this game. Too bad to see the Als exit after such a great season.

The Als really need to improve the backup QB situation over the off-season. Ted White is not very good.

This game was over when AC got injured.

Oh well, I didnt like our chances against BC anyways (0-2 vs them this year)

What's interesting to note here is that White was supposed to be the #3 this season, with Tavares Bolden coming in as the backup. White's exhibition play excelled that of Bolden's though, and he won the backup job, while Tavares became the FG holder, just so he could stay on the active roster.

As for improving the backup's job, there's a good chance that it's going to just happen by itself. Jesse Palmer, a Canadian QB and a 3rd stringer behind E. Manning and Warner in NY, is a free agent at the end of the season. Having only taken a handful of snaps the last 3 years, there likely won't be much, if any interest in him. The Als just happen to hold his CFL rights. If Palmer doesn't sign with an NFL team, the Als could then either trade his rights, or trade Calvillo, and get a good backup QB in return, plus something else. Or, they could keep both, but I really don't see that happening.
