Our Magic number is now 10 and will be at 8 when we beat the Bruins Tuesday.

Six wins would officially put us in the playoffs, even if teams chasing us win all their remaining games. For every game those teams ( the team in 9th ) lose,,,,that means we need one less victory to clinch.

We'll deal with the Devils on our own when we face them 2 more times. It will be sweet to officially eliminate the Bruins from the playoffs tonight.

Heres the simplest way to look at it. Our magic # is 14 points which can be accomplished by us winning 7 games or the team in 9th place losing 7 games. Any win by us reduces the number by 2 and any loss by the team in 9th reduces the number by another 2. When it reaches 0 we are mathematically in the playoffs. As a sidenote for Leaf haters....the majic number to ELIMINATE them from any chance of the playoffs is 12 points. This means that everytime the team in 8th ( currently 3 teams tied with 83 points in 6th) wins a game that number goes down by 2 and every loss by the Leafs drops it 2 more. When it hits 0 they are officially booking TEE TIMES :king: :king:

I like Bulis but lets face facts. WE CANT KEEP EVERYBODY. We have lots of kids to consider next year (especially at forward) and Gainey had earlier implied that he was finished negotiating with next years free agents after he did the Koivu deal. Reading between the lines would leave us with the impression that all others will be considered along with the list of available players from other teams, come the summer. Guys like Latendresse almost made this squad this year and will be strong candidates for any available openings. If losing Bulis leads to adding a better player ( Richards for example) then how can we let emotional ties get in the way? Gainey is the man and we need to trust his instincts.

Gainey's learned his lesson with the long term goalie contracts. Look for a 1 or 2 year deal at that position. Remember we have depth at goal now with kids like Danis and further down the road Price. Anybody think Abei is in the plans ?? He's not making a strong case for himself so far and unless Huet starts to tank, i don't see him getting many opportunities to show us what he can do.

Huet definitely gets the nod on MVP since the Olympic break. We've had a lot of players step up at different times throughout this year and monthly honors would probably be a better gauge of who's hot and who's not. Souray was stinking the place out early in the year and a lot of fans wanted his head and now look at him go. Same could be said of Bonk. If we can only get Zednik going again this machine of a team is gonna be hard to stop.

Washington is another team that we've struggled with. As much as we would love to say this game is a gimmee, i dont beleive there is such a game this close to the playoffs. We need this one and hopefully the guys will play like it. GO HABS
