  1. Yup, BAD MEMORIES. Habs trade away good goalie and a favorite of mine Mike Kean for not much, Colorado wins Lord Stanley with him. (Hey thats a good thing for my AVS!) I think a hot tempered Tremblay (Who is one of my favorite habs hockey players all time) has already cost the Habs too much, and this road should not be travelled again. Just my 2 cents...
  2. Souray is one of those guys that I actually like on some nights, then there are the Sidney Crosby Deke him out of his pads nights. If Sheldon could just put together a consistant (Does not have to be superstar) effort every night, he would be a valuable defenceman. I would like the Kubina idea as I think a few people on Habsworld.net have discussed him. 209 points in 531 games is good. -98 in his career is not so good but he does know offense! At $4M the Habs have the room to add his talent to the core Montreal has. As harsh as I may seem on the Habs "D", I really would only like to see an upgrade by adding one guy. Too many times teams make radical changes and end up doing nothing with said changes. I have totally given up on the high priced defenceman as the Leafs have just wrecked the market. Your observations about Chara and company are so accurate I have put those guys right out of any free agent signing thoughts. SIGH, Come on Bob, give us something to argue about. Go get Mario out of retirement.
  3. Scott Cullen is a Toronto Maple LEaf wanabe reporter. Does everyone not remember the ranking system and how he thinks teams should be rank by a carefully scripted (GUESSES) process he has. I cannot believe anyone still reads his trash. Go away Cullen, leave our glorious Habs alone and just do your Leaf thing....
  4. Yup! With the trade yesterday getting some bench big men, Ukic wanting to play point guard for Toronto, I say it is looking good to draft Aldridge.
  5. Tie Domi was benched a few games and Toronto won. He also is not getting much in the way of minutes so his effectiveness as ????? whatever he does is not helping put up wins. Paul Maurice likes the young guys he had in Toronto's AHL club and will play them. The coach will add about 7 minutes to Sundin's ice time, so someone loses. Normally I ignore these articles, however in this case it makes sense if the Leafs want to be a team that competes, or just stay a bunch of hacks that cannot get to the big picture.
  6. Me too. I like how both players got better as the season ended. Both guys try 100% effort and do not even mail in a shift or in Huets case an effort. These guys along with Koivu and Begin can really rub off on the other team members which is great for morale. All of tehm earn their money and I have great respect for their contributions.
  7. This thread is tiny compared to the NBA boards with the draft coming up. Plus it is always fun to speculate what bob Gainey is going to do because I want to know NOW! At least on who he is looking at. This guy never even drops a hint at what he is doing. grrrr..... bad for rumours.... Now if I mention a defenceman name I like Komisarek The Crusher is going to body slam me into the luxury boxes....
  8. Buying out Tie Domi would cost the Leafs $833,000 US. Replacing him on the fourth line will cost a minimum of $450,000. In other words, the Leafs would be paying more to replace him ($1.28 million) than to keep him ($1.25 million). http://torontosun.com/Sports/OtherSports/2...616703-sun.html ----------------------------------- Removing Tie Domi from the lineup will make Don Cherry pop a cork. I will have to start watching coaches Homer Leaf Corner on Leaf B C...oops... CBC.
  9. Raps pick wants out of Spain. LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Roko Ukic wants to play for the Raptors next season and, perhaps, vice versa. The Croatian point guard's agent, Marc Cornstein, met Raptors president/general manager Bryan Colangelo yesterday at NBA pre-draft camp for a preliminary discussion. A second-round pick of the Raptors in 2005, Ukic decided to sign a four-year deal with Tau Ceramica of Spain last summer and currently is involved in Spanish League playoffs. Source: http://torontosun.com/Sports/Basketball/20...620279-sun.html ----------------------------------------------- Interesting article as Roko was a steal as a second round pick. Nobody wanted to draft him as they thought he would not go to the NBA right away. Raptors took the chance but must try a buyout with his Spanish team. Looks like everyone wants to try out for the Raptors now.
  10. Well there is another Center that I have liked who is parting ways with his old team. Greg Johnson of the Nashville Predators is not going to be offered a contract. Source: http://www.nashvillecitypaper.com/index.cf...s&news_id=50348 His stats are he is 35, 5'11" and 238 points in 502 games. He was also captain of his team so I believe he has leadership abilities. I know he is not the offensive weapon everyone wants but there really is not much available this year for the centre position. For a goal scorer Elias is going to demand a kings ransom after that Richards signing.
  11. You are right that it will not effect the draft but the Raptors have a little more depth of big men on the bench. This was an excellent move as Hoffa needed to go to another city as toronto fans just disrespected him. He made good offensive pick plays to set up some 3's but he really has to learn to control his fouls. I hated seeing games start with Hoffa having 2 fouls under 2 minutes. grrr..../ Rumour mill: There are still whispers Bucks center Jamaal Magloire could end up being traded to the Toronto Raptors, and that super-sub guard Mo Williams could accompany him in a blockbuster deal. Swingman Mo Peterson and forward Charlie Villanueva are the Raptors most prominently mentioned in such a deal. … Other rumours Raptors are getting some tempting offers for the No. 1 overall pick.
  12. You might want to restate that. The Smart, Gray Haired, Retirement Age, Banged Up, Worn Out, OLD players with a cottage north of Barrie wanting to play for that Legend Hockey team Toronto Maple Leafs. (Reality does not exist in Toronto)
  13. Komisarek the Cruncher you have a way of posting just in time to calm my nerves. When I read here $1M per year for Streit I almost hit the roof. Yes he has potential but that would be too much. Thank you for elaborating on the show. (I have never seen it) Huet for $8M over 3 years, DONE! I could see this, as Montreal will need him to be the go to guy for at least 2-3 years.
  14. You and I think alike. I only use money orders too and also do not buy anything over $100. (I do not have total trust in Ebay) It is a good place for buying hobby things, models, coins etc...
  15. I know what that word means and it is just well won't go there... BUT since others went and said it was weird I took a chance and it was WEIRD!
  16. Just wanted to expand on the above post by KTC. Koivu and Fedorov are like night and day different. I would rather have Koivu right now as heart wins championships which Fedorov does not seem to show any longer. (Ask the Ducks) The Columbus GM was on the FAn590 today and talked about the Nash/Fedorov partnership. Before Fedorov, Nash was a minus -30 the year before. This year he was a plus +10 as Fedorov helped improve his offense and defensive responsibilities. Apparently these guys click and work well together. (I would love to see Nash in Montreal to prove Komisarek the Cruncher's theory). :hlogo:
  17. Nolan was only as good as Hasek and Peca, thats it. He won't last a season there and will get eaten alive. I have no ill will towards him but when listening to him talk you kept hearing the race card being played once in a while. Sorry Nolan you just are not a good coach, but good luck anyway.
  18. Interesting sign and trade like the NBA. The only major reason I could see Dallas wanting to pull this off is to get Arnott out of the west where he could hurt them. Maybe Montreal has something they like as this would not be the first trade between these two teams. Good Find Komisarek the Cruncher. :ghg:
  19. EXCELLENT POST! Over the last two years I was not that much of a Pronger fan as he was injured, playing without passion. Now being rejuvenated in a hockey crazy market has really brought his game back.
  20. I have to agree. At the beginning of the season I could not stand his game, but at the end of the season and playoffs I learned to respect his offensive abilities. Maybe he can break out this year and help the depth department of the Habs defence by adding points to his passing abilities.
  21. Komisarek the Cruncher is absolutely correct in that one is going to have to pay a little more for Arnott. Yes he is older and yes $5 million might be the magical number. The thing I do like about Jason is that he is a winner. He is one of those guys like Begin who gives everything to win. Plus he is offensively gifted which Montreal could use. BG is going to design the team around his idea of a Stanley Cup contender and he knows Arnott quite well. This may be a good fit for Montreal as Ribero is just not giving me a feeling of confidence in our Centre position behind Saku. I would not want to see Montreal import a slew of free agents as this does not help the young guys growth on the team sitting on the bench?
  22. McCabe deal still in limbo Source: http://torontosun.com/Sports/Hockey/2006/0...616709-sun.html Nearly a week has gone by since the Maple Leafs and defenceman Bryan McCabe apparently agreed on a five-year contract, but no official announcement has been made by the club. Why not? Usually, when a story of this magnitude breaks, there's confirmation in the following 24 hours. There are a couple of points of speculation relating to the delay of the announcement. One is the contract is being held up at the board level at Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment Ltd., with members trying to decide whether giving McCabe a five-year pact with a no-movement clause is a good idea. MLSEL president Richard Peddie, however, said yesterday, "There are no board issues at all with the contract." The other possible reason for the delay could involve McCabe's wife, Roberta, who might not be comfortable in committing to another five years in Toronto. The couple has a daughter, Stevie, who was born last September, and a home in Long Island, N.Y., where Roberta's family lives. The thinking is Roberta McCabe would like to be closer to her New York ties. One source said the club was set to announce the deal, with McCabe, at a news conference, last Thursday. The deal calls for McCabe, who turns 31 in two days, to be paid approximately $28.75 million US. He is coming off his best season when he was third among defencemen with 68 points (19 goals and 49 assists) in 73 games. Previously, McCabe's top campaign was 2003-04, when he had 16 goals and 37 assists. Neither McCabe nor his agent, Jeff Solomon, returned messages yesterday. Leafs general manager John Ferguson could not be reached for comment.
  23. Hey I liked Parker!!!! My point is that a first round draft choice is valueable. It could be traded for a 2nd + 3rd with a willing partner, or a younger player under contract to increase your depth at a position. This trade of a number 1 draft choice was for a potential rental. In the new NHL I certainly hope Montreal and Colorado do not get into this trading of first rounders for rentals.
  24. The problem is who does he replace in the lineup? I actually like him too but think his addition to the Habs will make a difference only on the offensive side. Habs need a bigger defenceman to stop those big pesky guys like Sundin and Forsberg. If Montreal did sign Danny I would not lose sleep over it as his ability to move the puck is impressive.
  25. Too bad, I liked Sundstrom but life moves on. I wish him luck.
