  1. Ouch, I had one like that in the early 80's. Went down in the butterfly, made the save, froze it and got hammered by 3 players. My legs stayed in the butterfly and my body got driven down to the ice on my left shoulder. I tried to finish the game (no back up in a tournament), I did finish the second and start the 3rd, but we played the last 14 min of the third with no goalie. Drove home, went to the hospital and was out of action for 3 months with a really bad knee strain...it hurts just thinking about it!
  2. Oh ya, GM-6, GM-12 & GM-21...those suckers hurt if you caught in the palm.
  3. Actually if I remember correctly Kenny packed it in mostly because his glove hand was reduced to mush. That and he wanted to pursue his legal career. I'm 6 foot 3 and 240 pounds, ahem, well in to my 40's, and my knees have never been a problem...the back however is another story. Melanson wants Price to be a little lighter, but big goalies have had long NHL careers. Kolzig 6 ft 3in, 221 lbs - still playing at 37 (38 next month) Sean Burke 6ft 4 in, 221 lbs - played until 40 Gary Smith 6ft 4in, 215 lbs - played until 35 Gart Snow 6ft 3in, 210 lbs - played until 36 LOL, great minds think alike...I used the same comparisons before I got to your post :-)
  4. But then again they're both pretty hot, no? Gotta go with Jaro after a shutout and I think Price even understands that. Price is our number one, but Halak is a very strong backup. We probably have the best young goalie tandem in the league in a decade right now...I for one can find zero reasons to complain. Huet was a different story, personally I didn't believe he was a big game guy and obvuiously Gainey & Carbo felt the same way. It doesn't change that Huet was a great team player...I for one never liked the win and you're in philosiphy...but you have to ride a hot goalie, not doing it would be silly.
  5. Ideal situation, two hot young guns fighting it out for first. Looks like healthy friendly competition and we, the fans should be the winner. Price & Halak talk like they're pals and both want the number one spot...Price is still my starter for the playoffs however...but it would be great to go in to the playoffs with 2 hot hands.
  6. Big goalies go through pads at an alarming rate. With Price's style and his 230 pound weight...6 or 7 sets of pads a year would not surprise me. He's probably just changing the graphics and the pads/gloves themselves will be the same so no big deal...anxious to see it though.
  7. Isn't hilarious how badly some Habs fans want a goalie controversy?!?! How about looking at it as two hungry young goalies playing well with a combined salary considerably less than Andrew "ride the pines" Raycroft. People need to embrace and revel in the fact that once again, we have two goalies that can play at a high level. Geezus people, if you need that much tawdry drama in your life start watching days of our lives Nice game Jaro! Go Habs Go!!!
  8. Sad news. Kenny Reardon was my late grandmothers favourite Habs and she died in 1971. Kenny will be missed by many. My thoughts are with his family.
  9. Some Habs fans make me laugh so hard. Too many of the posters on this board (and probably all boards) expect the team to win every game and turn on them like rabid dogs when they lose the odd one. Yep, tied for first in the northeast and one point out of first in the entire east just isn't enough for some people it seems I see talk like this and it makes me wonder why I even bother with fan boards  GO HABS GO! We'll get em next time.
  10. LOL, I was in the same boat. I tried to make Huet that guy but while he was great for us he just wasn't if for me...now that I've got Price, I hope I don't need to look for a new favourite until about 2030
  11. Dryden's performance in 1971 was lights out, the best I can ever remember. This tall lanky kid comes out of nowhere, plays 6 regular season games, is unconscious in 20 playoff games to win the Stanley Cup and Conn Smythe. Follow that up with the Calder, All Star selection and Team Canada 1972 goalie and wow, could you have a better start to a career than that?!?! If we are to measure greatness by most cups in shortest time, Dryden wins that battle for sure...although Plante's 6 cups (including 5 in a row) in his first 8 years ain't too shabby either.
  12. Dryden was probably my first favourite goalie, but I liked Beliveau, Cournoyer, Lemaire, Shutt, Pete Mahovolich, Plante (Leafs), Parent (Flyers), Penney, Billy Smith, Chico Resch, Kelly Hrudey, Theodore (still like Theo) and now Price. I've played goal since 1973 and been a goalie fan since a few years before that and Carey Price has the most potential of any goalie I've ever seen and I was saying that before he even played a game with the Bulldogs. I'd have to say that Bernie Parent is my all time favourite player, as Carey Price would say...so far...
  13. Don't get going on players or this thread will end up 400 pages long I only knew The Rocket from legend and film plus a 2 minute chance meeting with him and Henri in an airport in the early 90's where I got both of their autographs...Rocket was still intense! I saw Lafleur from day one and remember how unimpressive he was for his first 3 years. I grew up watching the 70's teams and Lafleur was amazing from 1974-80...but to me guys like Cournoyer, Lemaire, Shutt, Pete Mahovolich were just as (if not more impressive). Still, Guy had 6 amazing seasons. The Rocket epitomizes Montreal Canadiens...he set the standard for goal scorers and is arguable the fiercest competitor to ever play the game...I think even Lafluer would sincerely give the nod to The Rocket.
  14. Someone should make it their quest to find a contact point because I for one would be real interested in hearing Dick Irvin's answer. I'd bet it would be Dryden with Roy a close second...because if memory serves me, his father hated Plante.
  15. I said it before and I'll say it again, great thread with plenty of compelling arguments for multiple goalies. No disrespect meant to anyone, but I made a comment that 30 somethings would gravitate to Roy. As a laugh, I just checked the Roy supporters profiles...the ones with listed ages are as follows; Habsfan - 31 Wamsley01 -34 sbhatt - 33 Helmethead -31 Shu - 16 mathieu30 - 30 So am I a genius yet or just a guy with waaaay too much free time
  16. That's a really great question. Plante's & some of Dryden's teams were great teams, all-time greats, so it's likely they could have won some of their cups with different goalies. I think we'll all agree that there's no way the Habs win their '86 & '93 cups without Roy.
  17. Well I kind of contradicted myself with that statement as I grew up watching Dryden. I can't remember Plante as a Habs but saw him with the Blues & Leafs, yet I still go with Plante and hope to change that to Price 15 years from now But your last line is pretty much word for word what I was saying that Roy's biggest supporters are in their 30's and is hands down the best goalie let alone Habs goalie they ever personally seen. And that's fair, you can't penalize them for being younger than you
  18. Makes sense to me, what the hell was that closet devils fan trying to tell us?
  19. Agreed, and I never booed him...I just wish he had shown more maturity and class. If he had sucked it up that night and handled things like a pro behind closed doors...Tremblay likely would have faded in to the sunset and Roy would have won cups 25 & maybe 26 for us. All my feelings about him aside, he was a franchise player who should have retired a Canadien. Ultimately I blame him for that night. Not because he caused it, but because his pride and ego wouldn't allow him out of it.
  20. Not for a second do I hate Roy. I just wish he could have shown a little more class and handled that fateful night more like a grown man. I give him his full due as a goalie. He is statistically the best and arguable a top 3 of all time...where is the hate there? Embrace a slightly different view big guy!
  21. You are correct sir, Toskala is easily a top tenner if not top 7. He's the ONLY reason the Leafs are still clinging to very faint hopes of Ice that is not in drinks in April.
  22. I love it! Subtle but confident...I'm loving what this kid is becoming...
  23. You may be right, the **^%*^*$*$ Leafs just tied the game and it's in OT
  24. Why are you going there? Am I not allowed my opinion? I totally respect your opinion, if I don't always agree with you I'm no longer worthy?
  25. Somebody pinch me, did Carey Price just SEVERELY outplay Marty?!?!?! SWEET!!!
