  1. I'd like to apologize to everyone who lost posts when I accidentally deleted the "kovalev deal looking..." thread last night. The thread was getting way off topic and was getting a bit racial. Because of this, I decided to delete the offensive posts and close the thread until people calmed down. Instead, I accidentally deleted the thread, instead of closing it. I'm sorry to those who expressed good opinions in the thread, especially members who made their first HW post in the thread. Let's just use this as a learning experience: Racial slurs, even used in joking, are not acceptable. With that said, feel free to use this thread to talk about your thoughts on the Kovalev deal. 2. I never said that. I said if Moore called for Bush to be assasinated, I would arrest him. If Moore called for Chavez's assasination, I would take the same stance I am on Robertson. As I said above, I don't either. I agree it sounds like Robertson sounds like he's still in Cold War mode. At the same time, some of the allegations are that Chavez and his government quietly support terrorism. I don't know if it's true or not, but if it is, then getting Chavez out of power would, indeed, be a necessary action. That doesn't have to be an assasination though. No more than many other media outlets poison the world with left wing propaganda. (i.e. Dan Rather trying to sabotage the last election with his unsubstantiated story.)
  3. Finally! This is good news. Andrei is the team's most consistent defenceman, and in my opinion, is better than Souray in terms of overall performance.
  4. Another case of Ecklund's sources trying to make him look stupid, haha.
  5. I realize that it was out of character for him, but I can't just put it behind me. The only time you swing a weapon like that is if your life is in danger. I can't put his reaction past me. Like I've said, I would have had no problem if he'd just beat the tar out of the guy. Instead, he made the mistake of swinging his stick like a deadly weapon. I realize it was a split sceond decision, but that doesn't justify it. At the same time, his punishment was ridiculous compared to Bertuzzi and McSorely.
  6. I was simply pointing out an example of Fox News not slanting an event to support conservative views, as many say they always do.
  7. Who do you guys think is the most under-rated player in the last 20 years in the NHL? I think it's got to be Ron Francis. If you ask someone to list the game's best players, how many are going to name Francis? Very few, if any. All he's done in his career is rack up 549 goals and 1249 assists.
  8. I consider lots of people thugs who I don't see shooting somebody in a dark ally. I'm just saying most people would not have reacted the way he did. Retaliation was deserved, but his reaction was ridiculous. All I he had to do was figure out who hit him and drop the gloves. If you're going to stand up for yourself, do it like a man.
  9. That was more than your every day, 2 minute penalty slash. He looked like a lumbejack hacking at a tree with an axe. [Edited on 8-24-05 by Fanpuck33]
  10. That's exactly where it's coming from. I've seen the play many times. I fully defend his choice to defend himself and think his suspension was too long compared to Bertuzzi. At the same time, his retaliation was just stupid. If you're going to defend yourself, use your own two hands and beat the tar out of a guy. Don't swing your stick like a deadly weapon. 11. I can understand Ryder wanting to play with Mario. He was the best player in the 90's. But to want to play with some rookie? For all we know, Crosby could be the next Alex Daigle, and the Pens will suck for years to come. Why risk leaving a good team for a team with a potential rookie star, an against super star, and poor defense?
  12. Perezhogin isn't a good fit for the 4th line. He's a thug, but he's not a physcial player nor a good defensive player. Higgins and Pleky are much better two-way players.
  13. Come on, you think Ryder would rather earn 450,000 in Pitt to play in Pitt than he would to earn 1,000,000 to stay in Montreal? I'm sorry, but Crosby hasn't done ANYTHING at all yet. If he becomes the star he's supposed to, then people might want to play there. But what player would want the chance to play with some rookie who could end up being a bust?
  14. So anyone who says publicly that Saddam Hussein should have been assasinated during the first Gulf War is a terrorist? Anyone who wanted to assasinate Hitler was a terrorist? I'm not saying what he did was right, but it certainly wasn't terrorism. Now if he were to keep preaching this attitude and tries to do something about it, then it is terrorism. At the same time, Robertson is in no position to be preaching such things, as he has nothing to do with it. Let the US government do its job, Pat. Now, if his accusations about Chavez being a collaborator to terrorists, then I have no problem with removing him from power. Now, that doesn't have to be assasination, but if he is giving any sort of aid to terrorists, he is an enemy of the US and should be taken out of power. And do you honestly think nobody in a foreign media has said that Bush should be assasinated? I'm sure it's happened more than once. Again, saying something is one thing, but doing something about it is another. And you are right, if someone like Michael Moore called for the assasination of Bush I would call for his arrest. I would do the same if Bill O'Reilly would have called for the assasination of Clinton. In both cases, the individual has made a threat against National Security. Also, if Pat had said the same thing about Bush, what would the left wing have done? Would they bash him or defend his right to say it? Btw, Fox News ran the same exact article as the other media outlets.
  15. That is preposterous. Ryder in his rookie year was better than Morozov has ever been. To assume Ryder has already peaked is silly as well. I'll be the first to agree that he isn't a proven talent, but to call last season his career year is crazy. I don't think at all his best season is already behind him.
  16. So if someone says they wish somebody would die and that person dies, the person who made that wish should be punished? That sounds pretty silly to me. Now if Chavez is assasinated and they find out who's behind it, by all means, let that person fry. Though in my opinion, rotting in jail for a lifetime would be worse than a quick death. I noticed a portion of the article mentioning religious fundamentalism as an evil thing. There is nothing wrong with fundamentalism. It is the fundamentalist extremists, of any religion, that cause problems. Hell, extremists of any kind are rarely a good thing. [Edited on 8-24-05 by Fanpuck33]
  17. So the CIA should arrest a man just for saying something? If he has hiring people to take Chavez out, that's one thing. And not that I'm defending him or anything, ( I don't know much of anything about him even) but calling him a terrorist is preposterous. I haven't heard about him killing innocent civilians to spread panic or anything like that. [Edited on 8-24-05 by Fanpuck33]
  18. Don't forget about Jasson Spezza.

  20. www.tsn.ca says a 5:30 PM press conference is scheduled.
  21. Ok, so today is the day arbitration begins. Since Theo and Ryder have not agreed on a contract, will they be taken to arbitration?
  22. Why is Nashville listed there, didn't they win a playoff series last season against Detroit, or at least take them to 7 games?
  23. A league mandate is one thing, individual teams doing it is stupid. It's no different than the Cincinnati Reds owner a few years ago banning players from wearing facial hair. What right does the owner have to mandate such a thing? Football number mandates at least make sense, so it's easier for the refs to keep track of players and make sure players are in a legal formation. There's no need for such a mandate in the NHL. There aren't 22 men on the ice. And even in the NFL there are excetions. Some LBs wear DL numbers, and some WR wear numbers in the teens. Why should Andrei Markov be forced to wear a number other than 79? It doesn't make things hard on the ref. It doesn't hurt anybody at all. Who gives a crap if a guy wants to wear a high number?
  24. Hockey: Jarome Iginla: He's one of the best all around talents in the game, he has Cup experience, and he's a good leader. Baseball: Albert Pujols or Johann Santana. I can't decide if I want to build around a pitcher or position player. Pujols is the best position player in baseball. He's one of the best young hitters I've ever seen. If it weren't for Bonds steroid use, Pujols would already have 2-3 MVPs. If I built around a pitcher, it would be Santana. The kid is just 26 and has amazing stuff. Football: Peyton Manning. The best QB in the NFL. RB are a dime a dozen, and Manning can make any reciever good. Vick is a great athlete, but a terrible QB. Basketball: The NBA is not a team sport, so building a "team" around somebody is impossible. Soccer: Steven Gerrard. I don't know enough about soccer, so I'll just choose the best player on the one team I follow, Liverpool FC.
