I often wonder why this is a narrative that is held by some. If it was not serious but rather a ridiculously low ball offer, then why did Aho sign it?

    Because it was market value.

You don’t take another team’s star player for market value. The other team simply matches that market value contract.

    And that’s what happened

Agree with the Trouba comments, takes a lot of cheap hits without backing it up. I find myself cheering for Carolina in this series (despite the GM and owner).  I just can't cheer for Kreider and Trouba.

    The Toronto, Boston paradigm.

I’ve hated the canes since their cup years and all of their theatrical crap such as the bowling ball thing just fueled that dislike.

    I hope they get swept

That was a huge win for Colorado considering they might have been a little rusty with the long rest. Theoretically they should only get better from here. Again, cheering for an Avs win as it bumps up the Winnipeg pick a spot. Theoretically doesn't always work though.

I worry about Georgiev consistency. Sometimes he is great and sometimes he isn’t.

It was exciting watching Colorado come back though

  4. The Bergevin offer sheet to Aho was ridiculously low ball and not a serious offer at all.

That led to revenge by the canes which has screwed them.

It also led to Bergevin paying WAY TOO MUCH for Dvorak.

So to me this entire scenario was an idiot GM being an idiot, followed be another idiot GM being an even bigger idiot, followed by the first idiot GM doubling down on his idiotness.

The only positive in all of this is that we are free of that low class idiot.

A reminder... in the summer of 2021, instead of re-signing Vincent Trochek as their #2c, the hurricanes let him walk as a UFA, spending $6million on an offer sheet for Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

Trocheck played over 35 minutes tonight and scored the double OT winner.  Kk played 9:15 and was a -1

All cause Tom Dundon and Don Waddell were butthurt over the Aho Offer Sheet.

I never would have remembered or put this together but this is exactly what happened.

Canes really screwed themselves with their revenge plan.

Tremendous game, thought Carolina deserved better but Shesterkin was so good. Necas and Jarvis really impressed me and of course Aho is tremendous.

I don't have a favourite here so I just enjoyed the game. I can't really cheer for Carolina because of their owner/management but I also can't cheer for the guy that shortened Price's career. Just great hockey played at a fast pace.

Both teams have a relentless rush game and it’s so much fun to watch.

Colorado game is really great too

The only "issue/question" I might raise is no mention of goal-scoring as a strength ... THAT is an obvious need for the Habs in the years to come, and something largely missing from the current prospect pool.

    That’s an important observation.

The summary did point out his 20 points in 28 games as a 17 year old in an adult league.

But as you said, there are some great descriptions of his skills but scoring wasn’t one of them.

  7. @Commandant picked this guy at 5.

Reading that summary Helenius sounds perfect for what we need.

     Helenius, Centre/Right Winger, Liiga

The player that Kyle had ranked over Eiserman, Helenius checked in at third (Fred) and fifth (Ben), landing him at the third spot in our consolidated rankings. Helenius has been very impressive thus far in the top Finnish men’s league with Jukurit. In 28 games thus far, he has scored an impressive eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points. For a 17-year-old, in a men’s league, only the best of the best young stars can pull that off.

The reason for the success starts with an outstanding skating ability. While he isn’t a burner, with an ability to leave defenders in the dust consistently, he instead has shifty edges, shaking off defenders like it is nothing. That, paired with a high-end IQ allows him to manipulate defenders and create space for himself. Strong playmaking instincts allow him to take advantage of that space as well. On top of the skill, despite his slim build, he works very hard to win pucks back for his team. Maybe not physically, with body checks, but instead with an overwhelming pressure leading with his stick. Smart skater, with skilled playmaking instincts, and a high-end work ethic that is producing well against men at a very young age.

  8. Margarita Bob has this guy at #5. Big centre with injury issues

    5. Cayden Lindstrom

    cayden-lindstrom-1-2006225-1694441448028

The 6-foot-3, 210-pound Medicine Hat Tiger scoring centre remains in the same slot he occupied at mid-season, but his draft day status will be heavily influenced by NHL team doctors and medical reports at the NHL Combine, June 2-8 in Buffalo. Lindstrom suffered a hand injury in December that required surgery and also was reportedly rehabbing a back ailment. He didn’t play any games for more than three months and came back to play in only four playoff games for the Tigers, tallying a goal and an assist and 14 penalty minutes. If he’s deemed healthy, that size and offensive potential make him an attractive Top 5 pick but if there are any concerns about the medical reports, well, teams are very interested to do that due diligence

Or Florida dominated the game but Swayman stood on his head.

Swayman seems incredibly good at covering the bottom half of the net, it was the same against the leafs.

Not sure I would say Florida dominated. They had significant problems in the neutral zone and turned the puck over a few times there.

This looks good to me. Obviously some extra pieces that will need to be managed/traded, Kovacevic as mentioned might be a good 7th D. Engstrom is the dark horse here that may surprise. Perhaps Matheson's eventual replacement.

Matheson has two years left on his contract and it wouldn’t surprise me if he gets an extension.

Dos that mean Shanahan/Treliving get ONE more year to get it right ... or do they just have to face the music before getting fired Saturday/Sunday/Monday/etc. morning?

I read that as they are staying but how epic it would be if he fired them all during the press conference

    https://www.tsn.ca/nhl/bob-mckenzie-s-nhl-draft-ranking-an-unpredictable-ride-after-macklin-celebrini-1.2116004

    Interesting comments from Mckenzie.

"The lack of clear consensus beyond Celebrini — from No. 2 through to No. 10 and beyond — would be unprecedented. I’ve been doing draft rankings like this one for more than 35 years, and I don’t recall a year where the Top 10 is such a hodgepodge of opinion."

Is there a world where HuGo trade down?

Unless we win the lottery tomorrow 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Should only cost CC and Mailloux ... 😉

Cutting off your nose to spite your face kind of move 🤔

Is it possible to turn our LD players and the Winnipeg and or Calgary pick into a top 12 pick?

I have no idea but I hope so
