And how would you prove that it was an oversight instead of intentional?  Do you think CRA would be fine if I said that it was an oversight if I failed to declare income? Good faith is a critical element when making deals with other GM's.  Dorion failed miserably and the punishment was deserved.

I think you’re overthinking it.  Whether it was intentional or an oversight, the responsibility is on Ottawa to provide it.  The list was submitted, so Ottawa knew there was a list.  There’s nobody to blame but Ottawa.

    Done deal, i think.

Done deal, TSN is reporting he resigned.  Which means he was offered the option to resign or be fired.

He's been on the hot seat since the beginning of the season for mismanaging the cap and not being able to sign Pinto.  The gambling suspension was not related to Pinto not signing by all reports I've read.  Ottawa didn't need much of a push to part with him.

Going to be interesting to see what he does next.  You can't think any team really has him high on their list after botching a trade this bad and mismanaging the team's cap.  It wouldn't be overly shocking if other GMs are reluctant to deal with him as well.

CBJ player checked him head first into the boards.

It was a dangerous, dirty hit.  For most situations, I would agree with you but for that particular play, regardless of team, I'm not opposed to it.

It obviously taught Columbus nothing as they've gotten their 2nd boarding penatly in less than 10 minutes of play.

If they do - I hope they really overpay. It would be great to see them commit over $45m to their “big” 4.

They probably will overpay.  Before the season Nylander was holding out to see what Matthews was going to get.  I read a report saying Nylander would only consider a discount if Matthews took one, and Mathew’s did not take one.

I don’t see Nylander staying with Toronto, their cap space doesn’t allow for another $10m+ player.  I doubt they trade him before the deadline unless they aren’t making the playoffs, which is almost a certainty that they are.  If I were to put money in it, I would bet on a sign and trade before free agency.  It won’t get full value of a trade, but they wouldn’t be losing him for nothing.

  6. I’ve also seen rumours of Armia for Mantha one for one.  Caps get a lower per year cap hit with 1 extra year, where Habs get a higher cap hit for this year only as Mantha’s deal expires this year.

I would say in that scenario Montreal wouldn’t likely retain any salary and tie up the last retention spot for an additional year.  I also don’t know enough about Washington’s situation to know if they would even have interest in Armia.  It was just a rumour I read.

I'm still unconvinced that it was a good idea to trade Toffs.  Depending on what he does this year and if he becomes a UFA I'd consider bringing him back.  Similar to Monahan, I believe Toff's next contract ask could be reasonable considering his talent.

At the time Toffoli was traded it was the right move.  As for bringing him back, it's a simple question of what are the objectives next season?

A serious cup run is very doubtful, so no reason to bring him back.

Making the playoffs to give the kids some experience is a possibility, but do you NEED Toffoli for that or do you expect this group to get that done with the progress in their development?  If you need Toffoli to make the playoffs for that, then this group needs a bit of reworking to accomplish it on their own.

I don't really see a reason to bring Toffoli in at this stage of the rebuild under any circumstance.  The only reason I would see a reason is if management has a dramatic shift and wants to make a cup run immediately, which would be very counter productive from where they are now.  This isn't a knock on Toffoli at all, I just don't believe it's good for the team or Toffoli at this stage.

Hischier's skate pushed Primeau's pad across the line well before the puck went in. A good challenge and I don't think it was a tough decision in the end.

I think the biggest determining factor was there is Kovacevic is pushing Hischier, but it's not towards the net.  So It was fairly easy to say Hischier made no effort to avoid contact with the goalie.

  9. NHL.com is reporting Primeau starting as @GHT120 pointed out.

    Defense pairs are following;

    Matheson - Barron

    Harris - Kovacevic

    Xhekaj - Lindstrom

I may of butchered some of the spelling.

Any word on what going on with Montembeault?  He didn’t look bad in his start, indications are pointing to Allen as the starter and Primeau getting a start over Montembeault in this game.

How many picks do we need though really? With another 22 on the way in the next 2 off-seasons and a 50 contract threshold? We are quickly coming up to the borderline of having to start leveraging some of these assets before losing them...

If he remains healthy, I would like him resigned as an insurance plan to situations like the one we are in currently with Dach out for the season

Picks don’t use contract slots and have value, especially 1st round picks.  Not all picks have to be used to pick players.  Typically picks have a fixed value, where players value fluctuates constantly.  So having more picks is the safest for value rather than more players.  While picks do have some degree of fluctuation, it has more predictability than players.

For the reason above, I would much rather have a picks over resigning Monahan.  There are reasons to resign Monahan, but an insurance for a Dach-like situation isn’t one of them.  You can’t use a player that is injury prone as a backup plan for players that don’t get injured as often.  I see the reasoning behind it skill-wise, but realistically Monahan has a higher chance to be injured than someone like Dach.

As some of you may remember, I'm a big defender of Anderson for his play along the boards and away from the puck, as well as for his crazy ability to drive the net. He carves up the opposition on the regular and makes us tougher to play against. That overall package is enough to make me hesitant to say he has no "hockey IQ" per se, but I'll be the first to admit, he has ZERO playmaking skill. Absolutely none. His inability to use his teammates and to see the play in the offensive zone is almost comically below NHL level. That's what you get with Anderson, lots of pluses and that one gigantic minus.

That basically the description of a 4th line player, except Anderson has way too much size, skill and speed to be on the 4th line.

My first complaint about MSL. Our lines were running well together. Why change all 4 for one injury. Keep the lines the same, call up Roy to fill in on second line on wing, Newhook takes center. Other lines keep chemistry intact. What a mess last night.

It’s early in the season.  With the line shuffling he’s trying to catch lightening in a bottle, like the Caufield - Suzuki - Dach line last year.  I also believe it’s because Anderson didn’t really look like he belonged with Caufield and Suzuki.

Someone else pointed out Anderson doesn’t really fit in on any line, and I tend to agree.  He’s a good player, but he’s too selfish for his skill level.  He quite often recovers puck and just throws them back at the net instead of using his teammates.  I’m sure I’ll get shredded for this opinion of Anderson.

Slafkovsky looks completely different in every way. His work on the first Newhook goal was perfect from start to finish.

    Dach line looked frigging great

Gallagher and Pearson are not going to score at all this season are they?

Savard is a decent player that isn’t great at anything. His style of game doesn’t belong here anymore.

Guhle takes a beating out there

Still don’t like Anderson on the Suzuki line.

I agree with Anderson on the Suzuki line.  Dach worked so well on that line because he knew their best chance was to get the puck on the stick of Suzuki or Caufield.  Anderson is a good player.  He works hard on the forecheck and digs pucks out.  His problem is he's a shooter, always wants to shoot and on that line he has the 3rd best shot.  I think Slaf would be better on that line in the long run, and Anderson on the Dach/Newhook line as their shooter.  Slaf just isn't ready for that right now, he has to establish himself first.
