  1. One of Juneau/Perreault HAS to be gone. The Habs qualified Ribs, so they were content to hang on to him, and they can't be planning on using him as a 4th liner. I am, well "happy" is a strong word here, mildly un-upset that Kilger was resigned. Twas a good savings move by the Habs. But I am absolutely thrilled that Czerk and McKay were bought out.
  2. Feel free to contact me if you need any help. I'd send you an email but have no idea what you're looking at. the_huzer@yahoo.com
  3. Poor Oleg...he exercises his option, and they buy out his contract. (And from that same report...I see Hlavac wasn'f qualified...how long before people start talking about trying to pick him up. Ugh. )
  4. How strange that would be, since most folks assumed Selanne would go back to Anaheim to reunite with Kariya (still could happen), but that would be odd if the Ducks don't qualify Kariya. I guess the UFA list will grow a wee bit in about 3 hours, eh? Also, it seems a little strange to me now that Selanne opted out of SJ, especially knowing about the uncertainty of UFAs this summer. 5. After reading the article on TSN, Edm had no intention of giving Markkanen a qualifying offer. So the trade makes more sense for Edmonton now. Thus, the Oilers get a (more than likely) 2nd round pick, essentially for free.
  6. Yeah, it is a little surprising, but why would the Habs pay that much for a healthy scratch. I'd have no problem with him as a 4th line center, but at less money. And if he does go elsewhere (duh), there's one less body to worry about. Maybe he can go to Nashville so he and Oleg can practice missing the net together.
  7. So there's one dman off the market. Flyers keep Lapointe as well... http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=45...906&hubName=nhl [Edited on 2003/7/2 by huzer]
  8. I would've taken Delmore. Don't forget, he was "giving up 2 or three goals a game" on the Preds. I think you could say the same thing about every player on that team. He's cheap, and young, so he's still developing. The Preds were only giving him PP time anyway. I think he only averaged between 12-15 minutes a game.
  9. Andy Delmore has been traded to the Sabres for a 2004 3rd rounder. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=45...641&hubName=nhl [Edited on 2003/6/27 by huzer] [Edited on 2003-7-1 by puck7x]
  10. My only claim to fame is knowing Garth Snow, but that's after he got drafted. I got to know him while he was with the Cornwall Aces...as I played rec hockey at the rink across from the Civic Centre there. (I also curled at the rink right next to it as well). I met him through a guy from my hometown, who was drafted by the Rangers, and also played for the Aces, Mike Hurlbut. I think Mike has pretty much bounced around between teams in the minors. Mike had a twin brother Matt, but he never played after high school. As far as any current draftees...nope, I know none of 'em.

  12. Here I am, chillin' at work, so I figured I'd do a little more reading on Kastsitsyn. I'm sure most of you have already read a ton on this kid, but the more I read, the more impressed I get. I don't think I read one "bad" scouting report on him. Redline leads the way with their impressions of him... <i>"Our choice for biggest gainer on the charts is Andrei Kastsitsyn, the Belarussian winger who generally arrives at the net with all the speed and subtlety of a freight train. He was already high on our list, but after his valiant effort for a brutally undermanned squad, there's no way we can keep him out of our top 10, so he enters at #6."</i> That's from Jan 28th...so they bumped him up the charts since then. Cool. Come on over, kid.
  13. Oh yeah, and even though I know it's a completely hypothetical situation, the odds of Guerin waiving his no-trade to play in Montreal would seem kinda slim. And speaking of dumping $$, maybe the Habs can send Breezy to Carolina, since Markov is playing hardball...(although, as usual, the Habs would have to eat quite a bit of Breezy's salary, since Markov wants 3.2M) Now back to Hatcher...how bad a 1-2 punch on the RD would that be for teams, you get done dealing with Hatcher, then Komisarek's on the ice. Then, for the relaxing shift, Rivet comes out for a bit.
  14. That's a tough one. I put Guerin in the category of "guy you hate, but would love to hate him if he played for your team". He'd also open up so much more room up front for guys like Koivu. But at similar salaries, given the age (even though Guerin and Hatcher are only a year apart), the Habs need a big imposing dman in their own end. Komisarek is still learning the ropes in the NHL. I think Hatcher would be a better fit in Montreal, at the moment. To bring in a top notch, proven, character team guy like Hatcher would be great. At least Hatcher doesn't beat up his own teammates...hehe.
  15. I would go if were there. I'm still hoping that they do they high altitude training out in Vail again this September.
  16. <i>Over the next three weeks, the Canadiens will be involved in negotiations with Russian Andrei Perezhogin, a first-round pick in 2001, and Kastsitsyn. All reports are that Perezhogin is ready to give the NHL a try after a solid season in the Russian Elite League. </i> Hmmm, I wonder if that is Alexander's brother? Seriously, I hope Gainey will go with Perezhogin, if they're able to get him over, and he has a successful camp. I would like to see the team give him every shot to make it. As for Kastsitsyn (Habs names are getting harder and harder to type), does anyone know when the development camp starts? It would seem that it must start earlier than the 15th...
  17. I hope they get Perezhogin under contract soon too. They've got Milroy and Archer done (for obvious reasons), reinked Beauchemin and Fichaud, got Higgins to leave early...I would assume that Perezhogin would be their next priority, given the approaching deadline. It also does seems as though management really wants Kastsitsyn in the development camp at the very least. It'd be pretty cool to have all of the Habs 2001, 2002, and 2003 1st rounders in camp. And speaking of first rounders, I also though it was pretty cool for Gainey to show a little faith in Hainsey when he mentioned the young core of Markov, Komisarek, and Hainsey for the Habs defence. It'd be nice to see Ron stick with the club this year. So let's see, if Hainsey does indeed make the Habs roster, that means Hossa, Hainsey, Komisarek, and Ward should very likely be all there...with potential for Perezhogin and a slight chance for Kastsitsyn. That would also be pretty cool to have 6 Habs 1st rounders playing for them when the season began. Include Koivu in that mix from 93...and Higgins this year or next, and that could be potentially 8 former first round picks on the roster. Go first rounders, Go! And slightly off-topic, I'm thinking that the waiver draft this year should be pretty interesting. Hopefully the Habs can lose some deadwood there this year.
  18. Why would that surprise you? Any player that went to no-man's land (Utah) has pretty much no hope with the Habs. Landry is a minor leaguer, nothing more.
  19. I'm just curious about something. I've watched the NFL draft in the past, and haven't seen the commisioner booed. I haven't seen too much of either the MLB or NBA commishes, but I just wanna know: Does any sport's commish get booed more than Bettman? Why does the league continue with this guy? He should be back in the NBA where he belongs. He may have expanded the markets in which the NHL has franchises (um, is that a good thing?), but he has done nothing to increase it's marketability, which is what he was brought in to do.
  20. Go back to the old offside rule: No more delayed offside. Once the defending team has played the puck within their zone, the offside is nullified. I also don't like that hand passes are allowed in the defensive zone. If a dman loses his stick, or happens to get knocked down near the puck, tough luck. If it's not allowed in either the neutral zone, or the offensive zone, it shouldn't be allowed anywhere else on the ice. Those are two rules that are designed to aid a defending team clear the puck. I also concur with the equipment regs and the nets being moved back. The red line removed, while a good idea, will simply not happen. Damn traditionalists!
  21. Hmmm, Hextall lost game 7 on the road in Edmonton way back when...he snagged the Conn Smythe. I hope the same fate (a game 7 loss) doesn't await Giguere, but he does deserve the trophy. As Habs77 said, I can't think of anyone else on either team that has been more important to his team, period. Since both teams play that idiotically annoying system, the only logical choices for MVP are the two goalies. If anyone else snags it, I'll be incredibly shocked. Here's hoping Kariya skates with his head up!
  22. That's wayyyy too much to give up for Matvichuk. Cechmanek was just dealt for a 2004 2nd, nothing more. Ideally, I'd like the Stars to lock Matvichuk back up and part ways with Hatcher, instead. IN my silly dreamworld, he'd like good in the CH.
  23. That is a very weird mock draft. They also have Bernier all the way down to 30th. But then again, this IS CNN. What the hell do they know about hockey? Hmm, with Savard being a lame duck GM for the rest of the month (yet at the helm during the draft), I'm still curious if he'll try to move up, down, or around. ARGHHHHHHHH!!!!! I'm going to be at a wedding on the 21st. Maybe I'll just bring my laptop to the ceremony and catch it online while I'm there...hehe.
  24. I wouldn't expect CJ to take a demotion back to the farm at all. And unless he had been slapped with the "interim" tag when he replaced Therrien, I see no reason, for the time being, to expect him to be anything but the head coach at the start of the season. Is there a chance Carbo could come in? Sure, and I for one would be thrilled. He's the reason I changed my number to 21 way back when. As far as the asst GM stuff, I guess I hadn't reread any articles since the preliminary reports, when they all said that Savard had whatever title they dumped on him. My bad. And the day they bring back Big Bird, they best retire his number on the same day.
  25. I thought Savard was made Director of Player Personnel, not Asst GM (unless those two titles are one and the same). I haven't found anything to the contrary. But I do agree with your comments about CJ, Gainey didn't sound too committed to the guy initially. May take on it was that he would potentially leave Julien in place, but the assitants need to be cleaned out. I know that, realistically, it's all about political titles, since I don't think Madden will be given the boot, but I've never heard of an Assistant Director of Player Personnel...hehe.
