    Where Ya From?

Well, when you think to yourself in your head (e.g. "Oh, that was funny." "What's he doing?") is it in English or French? That's the eaisest way to tell. Also, do you speak English or French with your parents? Another way to tell. That doesn't quite work for me Bulis. I speak portuguese with my parents, english with one sister and her family and French with my other sister and her family. My girlfriend is French and my friends are really evenly split. As for language of "thought", it actually depends on what I am thinking about. If it's about something I lived/learned/experienced in a French setting, it will be in French. Same applies if it's in an English or Portuguese setting. I'm a walking tower of Babel. "I can't decide" which one I am is the most acurate.
  2. Oh well at least I like the running shoe version of the Sens much better. Would like to see Spezza pull a move like last night with running shoes on (and "Heatley" needs to coordinate the number on his helmet with the one on his jersey:)) Thanks for the interesting picks Tommy [Edited on 2005/10/29 by Rooster]
  3. Indeed it is. It was the best hockey rivalry I have ever known. Habs-Bruins or Habs-Leafs doesn't really come close.
  4. Oh no!!! It's the picture of Pleky in a Sens uniform again!!!! You guys in Kladno know something we don't?
  5. I also agree with Theo's post game comments were he basically said that the Habs played to much of a open game against the Sens. Julien seemed to disagree and simply stated something to the effect that the Habs also had their scoring changes and could have won. I think that is besides the point. A coach must know and work within a team's limitations. The Habs have a fast, skilled team and they can impose "their" game on quite a number of teams which is great as it has been a long time since that was the case. They however don't match the Sens firepower and skill. Going in with a "slugg it out" game plan against the Sens will lead to more losses than wins. You gotta improve your chances of winning against a team like Ottawa by playing, first and foremost, a defensively oriented game. I thought this was the lesson from the first game against the Sens. I also think this is the lesson from the second game against the Sens. There are teams against which the Habs will statistically lose the majority of games if they try to duke it out offensively with them. They should be mindfull of their relative strenghts against teams like the Sens and play conservative games. Julien doesn't seem to agree with this and I don't agree with Julien, but then again he is the coach and I am just a Rooster. [Edited on 2005/10/28 by Rooster]
  6. We should not forget the incident known as the "Good friday massacre", when the ice turned into a war zone during a bench clearing brawl during a Nords-Habs game in the mid-80s. God, I hated those Nordiques:)
  7. Souray did misplay Spezza in overtime, but I consider that the big part of the fault resides in the guy whose sloppy play gave them a one on one in the first place. Zednik had a horrible game and what I just don't understand is why Julien kept playing him, especially in overtime. He was giving the puck away all through the game and cost us dearly. It might be understandable as this was his first real game in God knows how long, but in that case why did the coach put him out there in clutch situations like OT? If you look at the Spezza goal closely, you will also notice that Rivet and Zednik (again) did a real crappy job of backchecking. They were both right next to Spezza when he moved in on Theo after toying pased Souray and they just watched him dance without even attempting to check him. Souray played a good, very decent game in my view, it was unfortunate that he looked bad while trying to cover up other player's mistakes at the end. I don't put any blame on Souray for the OT loss. Think Theo's incredible play and Souray's very decent game were very positive points from the night. Other than that (mostly, other than Zednik), I think it was a strong game for the Habs. Theo played superbly. The first line had a good night although they didn't score. The secong line provided all the scoring. The third and fourth line did their job and the D played well overall. Had Zednik been kept away from the lineup (or had his playing time been ajusted according to his play), Theo would have gotten us 2 points. Still very optimistic, the team is playing very well. 8. oh, and I'm sure it's been mentionned here already but Theo was absolutely fantastic last night. Man oh man that felt good to watch!

    Where Ya From?

Guess it's my turn. Me: Montreal Parents and Grandparents on both side: Portugal (from the same little island village whose name literally translates into "fishes' ass". Noble place really. Significant other: French canadian with Scottish grandparents on both sides. Hairy little one: Schnauzer, German in decent. Anglophone/Francophone: I can't decide. Went to French grade school and high school, went to english college, went to French University for undergrad, went to english University for post-grad. My friends are pretty evenly split and Portuguese is the worst of the 3 languages I know well. I'm Francoenglishlittleportuguese. [Edited on 2005/10/28 by Rooster]
  10. Here's to starting the season at 8-2 and getting a strangle hold on first place:)!!!!
  11. It's kinda hard from my perspective to completely make abstraction of information such as this from my image of a person. This should not in any way affect perceptions of him as a player, but globaly my image of the person has dimissed. Whomever the person is, a friend or stranger, strong indications that he physically mishandled his wife, under whatever circumstances, makes me lose respect for him. That's all I'm saying. [Edited on 2005/10/27 by Rooster]
  12. Well most probably nothing will come out of this. The article states that she has returned to LA and that she did not "press charges". This should be the end of that as I would seriously doubt public procecutors would move ahead with any charges without a plaintiff in this case. It's pretty much case closed legally speaking with regards to this incident. This does not detract from the fact that, again from the article, the police were called to his house and his wife had marks on her. He may not be in criminal trouble, but this whole seperation could still very much affect his play and some fans, such as I, could lose respect for him as a person if the facts remain unchanged.
  13. Taking nothing away from Souray the player, still feeling Souray the person is a bid of a jack a$$ for physically manhandling his wife.
  14. We owe Bettman for years of bad management and terrible expansion decisions that put the league financially against the wall and forced the owners to strongly resolve to put in place a new economic system and then a new "look" to the game to bring back fans after the lockout which was necessary to put in place the new economic system. So, basically, thank you for screwing things up so bad that a big change was mandatory for the owners.
  15. Seems his wife filed for divorce last summer and was in town "to try to work things out" when the incident toke place. No charges have been brought against Sourray for the altercation. This should be the end of that from a legal perspective, but these troubles may affect Souray's play on the ice.
  16. Kovalev didn't practice yesterday as he was said (heard on RDI) to be nursing certain boo-boos. Anybody know of his status for tonight's game (I overheard on the radio on my drive home that he might miss the game, but haven't heard anything since). Anybody got news on this?
  17. So he has make the WHL team after all? (I can't seem to get access to the link) try http://www.sportstricities.com/sportstc/ho...p-7045481c.html Thanks:/)
  18. It looked pretty bad on the ice (he pretty much gave up on the ongoing play). Glad it's not as bad as it seemed.
  19. So he has make the WHL team after all? (I can't seem to get access to the link)
  20. Well the article does quote a Maple Leaf Sports Entertainment executive stating that the are seriously considering it. After what is happing in the MSL file and now they are "considering" raining on the Habs' 100th b-day parade, I'm really begining to think that MLSE are a bunch of a-holes who think they can dominate the canadian sports market and are attempting to do just that. Montreal sports organizations might have quite a few more run ins with them.
  21. I think our PK did all right last night.....or rather Philly's PP wasn't much better than ours.
  22. I'll say 5-4 Habs....yet another late game winner. Habs: Perezhogin, Kovalev, Zednik, Begin and Ryder Sens: Alfredson (2), Heatley, Spezza.
  23. Hopefully this will also solidify the PP. Maybe move Kovalev to the point in some instances?
