  1. I think they're paying attention (the day-to-day player management has been better than last year), I just think they over-estimated the ability for the young players to shoulder the load. (Most of us could see it coming a mile away though...) At this point, there's not much they can do, short of dealing a late draft pick or unsigned prospect to get a Palushaj replacement and given that they're 15 points out of 8th, I'm not sure that's justifiable. At this stage, I figure the plan is to simply hope for the best and then try to pick up some college free agents (either on tryouts or through ELC's with the Habs). Hopefully management has learned their lesson from this season and that we see some 'supplemental veterans' signed next year.
  2. One of the better d-men set to hit the UFA market is now gone as Kimmo Timonen has agreed to terms on a 1 year, $6M extension with the Flyers. They're looking like they'll be really tight to the cap for next year so I suspect they'll be using at least one if not both of their compliance buyouts.
  3. Devane for Toronto took a penalty 14 seconds before Beaulieu did so it wasn't a PPG, it was 4-on-4.
  4. They did go back to Markov-Diaz later in the game which was good.
  5. The 'whimsical wonder' that I was really referring to was in the link, the missed FG/punt out/punt back in/try to punt back out play from a few years ago. I know in the past NFL teams used to convert QB's but I can't think of any recent examples (other than Tim Tebow who lined up as a special teams player). But in the CFL, signing a Canadian QB to actually play QB is the exception instead of the norm.
  6. They tried the old fashioned 'sit back and hope for the best' strategy, the same one that killed them last game. At least they pulled this one out though. http://theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1010544
  7. I don't mind Armstrong getting extra minutes right now, he had a strong period (he just needs to hit the net...). I suspect we'll see the Galchenyuk line more in the 2nd though.
  8. That was a tale of two periods - I really liked the effort in the first half but Boston was beginning to control the play towards the end. The speed game was working early on, let's hope the Habs can get that going again in the 2nd.
  9. Leblanc and Murovich have goals in the 2nd, it's 4-1 Bulldogs. There was an interesting moment in the first, the Marlies had 3 separate penalties on the same play... 1 - TOR Devane, 16:12 - Hooking, 2 min (PP) 1 - TOR Ryan, 16:12 - Interference, 2 min (PP) 1 - TOR Syvret, 16:12 - High-sticking, 2 min (PP)
  10. But then you wouldn't get the chance to potentially experience first hand some of the . Only in the CFL can a team sign a college QB to a tryout deal with the promise that he'll have the chance to make the team as a safety, a receiver, or a punter...but not as a QB...and have it actually somewhat make sense. (I'm not making this up, this actually happened this afternoon...)
  11. To be fair, Spooner is one of their top prospects while MacDermid is a Thornton replacement (he's a goon) so there's not a huge loss there. That said, I don't expect the B's to roll that line (if that is indeed the combo, I had to guess) much, I see them going with 3 lines for most of the game. Also, Blake Geoffrion will be at the game for the first time since being sidelined for the season with a very severe concussion. It will be nice to get a bit of an update on how his recovery is going.
  12. I don't think it's so much the doghouse now rather than it is the realization that with 4 goals on the season, he is one of the higher active goal leaders on the team and thus should play more.
  13. The Bulldogs (14-23-1-5) travel to Toronto tonight to once again lose to play the Marlies (24-14-2-2) in the second last matchup this season between the teams (hallelujah). Kyle Hagel is eligible to return after missing the last game with a suspension. Projected Hamilton Lines: Bournival - Dumont - Leblanc Quailer - Tenute - Blunden Lefebvre - Holland - Murovich Hagel - Fortier - Stortini St. Denis - DeSantis Beaulieu - Ellis Tinordi - Pateryn DesjardinsProjected Toronto Lines: (based on previous +/- data)Scott - Zigomanis - D'Amigo Deschamps - Connolly - Abbott Ashton - Colborne - Ryan Ross - Devane - McKegg Gardiner - Gysbers Yeo - Blacker Mottau - Grimshaw Owuya Puck drop is at 7:00 PM, Funny820 as always will have the play-by-play, click the banner below to listen.
  14. If Colorado tries to send Palushaj down at any point (this week, next month, next year), he will need to be re-waived. The only way Hamilton can get him back is if the following happens: - Colorado re-waives him within 30 days of yesterday without playing him in 10 games and, - The Habs re-claim him and no other team claims him. At that time, Montreal would be eligible to send him down if they so desire. It's certainly not an automatic all that the Habs/Bulldogs would get him back if the Avalanche re-waive him, they may value the open contract spot more (to try to sign a college UFA next month).
  15. Marchand is a confirmed no-go, I guess that means Spooner draws in for Boston.

  17. Far from dead. In fact, it's going to be expanding for the 2014 season meaning there will be even more CFL on TV for your viewing enjoyment.
  18. For him to be sent to the Monsters, he would have to be re-waived and go unclaimed. As for signing him a two-way contract, two-way deals don't affect waiver eligibility, just salary in the AHL. Palushaj is, in fact, on a two-way contract.
  19. For those looking to see some of the junior prospects, Sportsnet has two straight Friday games with a Montreal prospect beginning next week. February 15: Sarnia vs Windsor (Vail) February 22: Kamloops (Bozon) vs Vancouver
  20. D'Agostini was a healthy scratch with the Habs and had to go through waivers (and wouldn't have cleared). Palushaj was younger and waiver exempt with seemingly some upside (he was picked right after Subban in 2007) so the Habs got what they could for an player clearly on the outside looking in. It made perfect sense, too bad it didn't work out too well for Montreal.
  21. Daniel Pribyl has quietly put together a 4 game goal and point streak; he has 8 points (4-4-8) in that stretch. He's a streaky producer but he's on a roll right now.
  22. He can't go to the AHL (without being re-waived), they picked him up for the NHL roster.
  23. Much to my surprise, Colorado has claimed Palushaj.
  24. Funny you mention D'Agostini who has been a healthy scratch 6 times already this season and wouldn't have a place in the Habs' lineup either (I know they were dealt for each other a few years ago). We'll find out in the next half hour if he clears or not.
  25. Yep. He's on waivers today and if he clears, will be reinstated onto Hamilton's roster tomorrow afternoon.
