Wikipedia says it started in 1923. But why Canada sends a national team while all the others are called HC Davos, Mettallurg Magnitogorsk, etc... RobRock Posted December 31, 2007 Author Share Posted December 31, 2007 It's an invitational tournament hosted by HC Davos every year at this time. They invite one team from some of the European Leagues, and have a Team Canada made up of Canadian players playing in Europe along with some throw-ins, like Cujo this year. A couple of AHL players have gone over in recent years as well, but it's mostly Canadians playing in Europe. There used to be a tourney in Russia called the Izvestia Cup played at the same time, which the actual national team used to play in every year, when there was one.
