J.T. WYMAN

RIGHT WING | (6-1, 180) | BLAKE (USHSW)

BORN: February 27, 1986

SHOOTS: R

CENTRAL SCOUTING: No. 86 North American Skater

History

Wyman was the third player from Blake School named a Mr. Hockey finalist and was listed as the third ranked player by Central Scouting, but finished as the leading scorer for the Bears with 54 points. The right winger, listed 86th among North American Skaters, was a tremendous offensive player for his team last year, scoring goals in 21 of 24 games.

Talent Analysis

A league coach had this to say about Wyman: “Wyman has the ability to single handedly change the game in one shift. He is very explosive and is a pure goal scorer. He has a tremendous first three strides, has nice hands, and a quick release. He will have to develop his play in the last 100 feet to make himself a more complete player.”

Future

Wyman is headed to the ECAC next season, as he has committed to Dartmouth (ECAC).

The Canadiens were among the first on the board on Sunday, using an early fourth-round pick to take James T. Wyman with the 100th overall selection in the draft. The selection had been obtained by the club back on June 30, 2002, as part of the trade that had sent Sergei Berezin to Chicago.

Wyman, who played for Blake High School in Minnesota, is a 6-foot-1, 180-pound centerman who could also develop as either a left or right winger. In 2003-04 he registered 31 goals and a whopping 54 points in just 24 games.

“He’s a solid, fast skater,” explained Canadiens Director of Player Personnel Trevor Timmins. “We like his versatility, and he’s the kind of player who’s dangerous in all types of situations.”

A native of Edina, MN, Wyman is a multi-faceted talent who also earned All-State honors on his school’s lacrosse team. An outstanding leader, he captained both the lacrosse and hockey squads. The 18-year-old plans to attend the NCAA’s Dartmouth College in the fall.

Wyman will go to the Ivy League from prep school as Chris Higgins did at the age of 18. Wyman goes to Dartmouth instead of Yale, although two of his schoolmates Will Engasser and Rob Page will debut with Yale. Wyman was team captain and MVP playing alongside Engasser, Page and a couple of other drafted highschoolers at the Blake School. He is a bit bigger than listed, Dartmouth has him at 6-2, 190 pounds. It will interesting to see how he compares to another freshman RW at Dartmouth, Ken Johnson, who was the top Tier II junior in Canada last year.

Wyman not in the lineup tonight (Nov 19). Not sure if he is hurt or a healthy scratch. Most likely the latter with 0 points this season and the team slumping. Can you beleive they picked him ahead of Wes O'Neill who is in his second CCHA season and leading his team in scoring as a defenceman? Awful. All that little gym monkey Timmins had to do was look at the CSB ratings and see that O'Neil was rated about 60 spots ahead of Wyman. Idiots. The team is run by idiots.
