Tony
I was bored the other day and I was always thinking of what the Habs would look like if guys like Schneider and Chelios never left the team. Both these guys were drafted by the Habs and each got traded. The same thing can be said about many other players who left the team for different reasons and are still playing in the NHL. This gave me an idea to compile all the current NHLers who got drafted by the Habs and pencil down some sort of line up had some of these guys never left. The only criteria I used here is that everyone present played at least one game in the NHL this season. Andrei Kostitsyn (#10 overall 2003) -- Saku Koivu (#21 overall 1993) -- Matt D'Agostini (#190 overall 2005) Mikhail Grabovski (#150 overall 2004) -- Mike Ribeiro (#45 overall 1998) -- Michael Ryder (#216 overall 1998) Chris Higgins (#14 overall 2002) -- Tomas Plekanec (#71 overall 2001) -- Sergei Kostitsyn (#200 overall 2005) Guillaume Latendresse (#45 overall 2005) -- Ben Maxwell (#49 overall 2006) -- Maxim Lapierre (#61 overall 2003) Darcy Tucker (#151 overall 1993) -- Craig Conroy (#123 overall 1990) -- Ben Guite (#172 overall 1997) Others: Jason Ward (#11 overall 1997) and Aaron Asham (#71 overall 1996) Andrei Markov (#162 overall 1998) -- Mike Komisarek (#7 overall 2001) Ron Hainsey (#13 overall 2000) -- Stephane Robidas (#164 overall 1995) Francois Beauchemin (#75 overall 1998) -- Craig Rivet (#68 overall 1992) Mark Streit (#262 overall 2004) -- Ryan O'Byrne (#79 overall 2003) Mathieu Schneider (#44 overall 1987) -- Chris Chelios (#40 overall 1981) Other: Patice Brisebois (#30 overall 1989) Carey Price (#5 overall 2005) Tomas Vokoun (#226 overall 1994) Jaroslav Halak (#271 overall 2003) Jose Theodore (#44 overall 1994) Mathieu Garon (#44 overall 1996) The list below is guys who haven't played a game in the NHL this season but have an interesting situation. -Claude Lemieux (#26 overall 1983) -- Currently in the AHL looking for an NHL team, would be quite the feat if he did. -Rory Fitzpatrick (#47 overall 1993) -- Aside almost being voted in the all-star game last season, he's currently in the AHL (signed by Florida). -Brad Brown (#18 overall 1994) -- I'm only mentioning because he was a first round pick! Right now, he's playing in the ECHL and is a UFA. -Greg Stewart (#246 overall 2004) -- Mentioned him because I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a call-up if the injuries keep happning. -Kyle Chipchura (#18 overall 2004) -- If he wasn't injured right now, he'd be playing right now. Overall, that's some impressive line-up. Edited December 16, 2008 by Tony
BTH
I think I prefer our actual NHL roster. How about Zubrus instead of Maxwell?
Tony
Habs didn't draft Zubrus. Philly did.

BTH
Habs didn't draft Zubrus. Philly did. Ah - I thought you were making an team of ex-Habs regardless of where they were drafted.
KoZed
 Nice work Tony. I tried to find any more. I found 2 - Andre Deveaux (6th round in 2002) played 9 games in the NHL for the Leafs this year. - Brett Clark (6th round, 1996) who made a place for himself in Colorado special mention: Sean Hill (8th round 1988) was still playing the NHL as of last year, playing in Europe this year (at 38 yrs old). Habs sure knew how to draft D-men who'd last 20 years...
saskhab
Asham :puke: Glad I'm not the only one who wishes he had stuck around. I know a lot of people after they saw Czerkawski wishes they had kept him, but at the time I was mad at the deal as well. I really liked Asham, and thought he was what we needed at the time... RobRock
Were any of those guys drafted with any picks acquired via trade?
Habitforming
We drafted Crosby's dad .... doesn't that entitle us to his seed as well?
