But if doctors made the same salaries as teachers, it suddenly becomes a much/ less attractive job occupation for a whole lot of people. Making money comes first, morals second. Don't lump the regular GP in with specialists. There are some specialists who jump at the dollars. GP's however are not allowed to extra bill and only make standard rates as provided by OHIP (at least in Ontario). My dad is a doc and everyone always asked me what it was like to be rich. Even when extra billing was allowed, dad never did it. Didn't believe in it. Don't get me wrong, he makes good money, but my wife is a teacher and her salary is fast closing on his.
