sakiqc
Link: Globe and Mail ...The Kilimanjaro expedition, which will depart on Saturday and is set to raise $250,000 in pledges, may be the most eclectic group of climbers assembled for the sake of generosity. Included are two grandmothers. One is Ms. Beaudry, who has worked for the Habs for more than 20 years. The other is Rose Gillett, the 60-year-old wife of the Canadiens' owner, U.S. businessman George Gillett. The group also includes: Michele Piuze, the wife of future Hall of Fame goaltender Patrick Roy; Claudine Douville, a reporter for Le Réseau des Sports, who will make a documentary of the trip; and Marie-José Vasseur, who has cycled across Canada and recently returned from scaling Aconcagua, the highest mountain in South America. Ms. Gillett has been to Africa twice. Once, she travelled to Tanzania and stared at Kilimanjaro in its towering majesty, all 5,895 metres of it. Climbing to its peak had always tickled Ms. Gillett's fancy and she has researched the challenge as much as she's physically trained for it. ... Funny remark by Pierre Boivin: "It's going to be well organized, but it's not a walk in the park," said Pierre Boivin, who then said jokingly, "The guys have said they'll have to pick up the challenge next year, maybe play golf -- 36 holes a day and we'll carry our own bags." Nice project for the Habs fundation! Good luck to all of them! [Edited on 2005-1-31 by sakiqc]
