GAME not ON! (Season not un-cancelled)

Well, if you've been paying close attention to the situation over the past few days you'd know that something was brewing... I would have posted something, but why get peoples hopes up?

But now its concrete information, and alot of people who thought the season was finished are eating crow right now. I always had faith.

A deal is done. The season is saved! (unless the extremely unlikely happens).

I can finally do this again....

:ghg::ghg::ghg:

Want a source? : Just goto tsn.ca , the hockey news, or listen to any sports radio station (ones that give a crap about hockey). Beleive me, this is real, its very unlikely that a deal will not be reached, everything I've read and heard online and on the radio says its happening, and the link below says its already done.

Very sorry for hardcore European team fans, this must suck for them. Some teams will have to completely rebuild, look at AK-Bars. Great news for everyone else though.

I was watching RDS right now. This is what I heard and I hope I don't get anything wrong.

They were saying about the possibility of a new deal being made but this new is being made by a group of players and agents supposebly. RDS got an email from Bill Daly stating they couldn't reach a CBA deal without anyone else than the NHLPA.

Now during the show, they interviewed Ian Lapperiere on the phone and asking him for his opinion on what you think is going on and if he heard any news,

Ian said he got several phone calls from player today asking what was going on so he decided to call Trent Klatt and he CONFIRMED that all the player representatives are in New York right now (where the meeting is supposebly being held).

RIGHT AFTER he said that, RDS announced that they got a notice from the NHLPA denying any deal being made with the NHL. They didn't mention anything about a meeting.

Ian was still on the phone and he himself was mind boggled with what the hell was going on.

I wish someone else saw this so they can clarify what was said since I'm not 100% with what I just wrote.

I can confirm that I read the same thing on other forums. I beleive you.

Sounds like the NHLPA is split down the middle (hopefully the side that WANTS TO MAKE A DEAL has the power)

Hey puck,

mind explaining me what does the NHLPA mean when they say they won't accept a salary cap with linkage to revenu?

[Edited on 2005/2/19 by Tony]

Well fanpuck explained...

But its basically like this...

The NHL wanted linkage, Linkage is the act of linking player salaries to league revenues. The League wanted linkage at 52% or something, and lets say the league generates 2.8 billion in revenue per season... What they'd do is figure out what 52% of 2.8 billion is, then divide that number by the number of teams in the league... and the final number is the salary cap.

In the NHLPA's offer last week (Last monday ? or sunday) , they offered linkage (point #7 of the offer), problem was that it was one-way linkage. If the NHL's revenues went up, the cap went up... BUT... if the revenues went down, the cap stayed the same.

I did some quick math and the NHL is supposed to have league revenues of 2 billion dollars or something like that.

That would mean each team would have a cap of 35 million (well I rounded up).

Looks like the Rangers are extremely screwed if that scenario ever occured.

Yeah, but the deal the 2 sides agreed to does not include linkage. Its a cap at 45 million.

I have a hard time believing this. Their is just so much more to be worked out, other than the cap. I personally don't wanna see the come back. A 28 game sched is pointless. Alot of teams will be rusty after the long lay off and it will take a while to get back into the grove. By the time that happens, the season would be over. It would hurt the veteran teams more than anyone, ie Detroit and Toronto cuz most of their players haven't been playing and that kinda rust takes more than 28 games to shake off.

However, if this is all true, the NHL wins big time. The PA caved something awful. I don't understand why they didn't make all these concessions back in October. I have thought all along that inorder for a deal to get done, one of or both Bettman and Goodenow would have be gone. Well, Goodenow is being pushed over the cliff IMO. I'd like to see Mike Gartner take over the new NHLPA.

From what I've read, their is no press conference scheduled YET. Until they come out and say it's a go, I will be very skeptical. Just doesn't seem logical.

Just heard on TV (CBC Newsworld) that a press conference has been scheduled.

NO WAY they've schedule a PC if it wasnt for a uncancellation announcment. Its on baby! Its on.

When's the Press Confrence, puck?

Not sure, all I know is that its "later today" , I've seen this press conference confirmed (the report of one confirmed) at a few different places now. So it should happen...

Press Conference at 6pm est, thats the rumour...

Its really happening. One of the most bizarre things I've ever seen, season is cancelled, then uncancelled... But I am definitely not complaining :D

GO HABS GO!
