MONTREAL (CP) - The Montreal Canadiens assigned winger Jason Ward to the AHL's Hamilton Bulldogs for a conditioning stint Tuesday.

Ward, 24, missed 19 games after he suffered a broken ankle in a game Nov. 1 against the New York Rangers. The Chapleau, Ont., native has one goal and one assist in 12 NHL games this season.

Ward has played 64 NHL games, all with the Canadiens, and has tallied six goals and four assists.

Montreal drafted him in the first round (11th overall) in the 1997 NHL Draft.

I hope he isnt there long... I'd like to see him back in the habs lineup ASAP... Weird that we'd send him down now , since he said he would be ready to play in Thursdays game... And also the habs an available roster spot for him...
