Pierre the Great
Cutting green house gases in half by...... 2050. lol. I'll be 64 years old! What a joke. - Industrial polluters would have until at least 2010 before they would face regulations - government is giving itself until 2020 to set national emissions-cutting targets for the pollutants that cause smog. - The proposed law makes no reference to the Kyoto Protocol although Canada remains a party to the treaty. - The government will also introduce regulations over the next year to slash emissions from motorcycles, outboard engines, all-terrain vehicles and off-road diesel engines. But officials were unable to say what proportion of Canada's emissions come from those sources, or by how much they will be reduced, The Canadian Press reported. - By 2011, produce new regulations for vehicle fuel consumption - By 2025, set federal targets for smog and ozone levels - Harmonize vehicle emissions standards with those of the United States over the next 12 months - Align regulations with those of the U.S. for volatile organic compound emissions - Work with provinces to create system for mandatory reporting of air emissions and avoid regulatory overlap - Introduce environmental damages fund that applies non-compliance fines directly to cleanup http://www.ctv.ca/servlet/ArticleNews/stor...?hub=TopStories

Mr. Nasty
A laughable solution by a laughable party with regards to a very serious problem. Cutting emissions is bad for Alberta oil.
Pierre the Great
Its all better than never having it happen at all. 50 years! Europe is meeting there goals in 10 and it takes Canada 50 years! Thats embarrassing. Heck the US hasn't done crud when it comes environment and yet we've somehow stopped emissions, sort of. California has helped with its crack down with the Terminators legislation. Oregon, Washington, New England, New York, and Montana (yes Montana) are wanting to sign up to the kyoto idea legislation in California. They're going to cut stuff in 10 years. smon
Well, you have to be smoking some of the no longer available for medicinal use stuff if you actually think Canada will reduce said emissions by 2050 It's just an easy way to claim to have done something when in reality they're not doing anything - heck, how many different governmental priorities will we see in 44 years! We'll see if they actually do cut their emissions in half in 10 years. Somehow I doubt it will really happen. Sounds nice, but in reality it's very unlikely. But I guess talking about reducing emissions is just as good as actually doing it. Edited October 20, 2006 by bbr93
