  1. Senators score 2 quick goals at the start of the 2nd to go ahead 2-1. The Leafs should have tried having Domi give another speech before the 2nd period started. Their strategy still needs some fine tuning. Actually I think it might be good if the Leafs win. I honestly think if they win tonight they will continue to believe they have a shot at the playoffs and the cup. If they lose tonight and to us on Tuesday I expect Feguson will start making some deals to prepare for next year.
  2. The refereeing continues to be terrible. The last 2 penalties they called were not penalties although the one called against Ribeiro might have been Tampa penalty. On the other hand two blatant penalties we committed were overlooked although they were right in the middle of the play and easily seen.
  3. Well my brain went numb in the middle but most of what I did hear was Domi repeating 3 or 4 times that he wouldn't make his speech too long.
  4. The Leafs are trying a new strategy tonight. They are trying to put the Sens to sleep before the game by having Domi give a 10 minute pre game speech to the crowd recounting his career highlights on the occasion of his 1000th game.
  5. I'm going to guess: Habs in 28-29 with 0. Just a guess.
  6. Probably Gainey will do something then.
  7. He was behind his net. The puck comes toward him along the boards. Instead of playing it he first threw a hip into the Canadien's forward who was skating toward the puck. That's interference on anyone.
  8. Look out for Koharski. He loves to call penalities on the team with the lead in these situations. I remember when he could always be counted on for a late 2 man advanatge.
  9. I don't agree. I think they deserve this win. True they were back on their heels for the first 35 minutes. But since then the forwards have been playing extremely well and finishing their chances. Really only Rivet's goal was due to a fortunate tip by the NY forward. The other 4 goals have been great shots. 5-2 is not that unrepresentative. Probably 5-4 Habs would be a representative score.
  10. Two comments. 1. I actually think Zednik has been trying harder than I have seen in weeks. he made 1 brutal give away in our end but he has at least been trying to get to the front of the net on offence. 2. I am not too worried by the territorial advantage the Islanders have displayed. I put it down to post olympic rust. I heard Yashin call tonights game their most important of the season so i think the Islanders were fired up to play today.
  11. M.R. got it: 18 This is one of the most amazing stats that I know of. It explains why the Bruins were especially unhappy to have lost in 01-02 and 03-04 to us. One of the reasons I remember my days living in Boston fondly is because of this streak . Here are the details: Playoff series Habs vs Bruins 18 straight: 45-46 through 86-87; streak ended by Bruins win in 87-88. Overall 22 and 7. Year by Year L 28-29 W 29-30 L 42-43 W 45-46 W 46-47 W 51-52 W 52-53 W 53-54 W 54-55 W 56-57 W 57-58 W 67-68 W 68-69 W 70-71 W 76-77 W 77-78 W 78-79 W 83-84 W 84-85 W 85-86 W 86-87 L 87-88 W 88-89 L 89-90 L 90-91 L 91-92 L 93-94 W 01-02 W 03-04
  12. Well you got the teams right (I presume you mean Habs over Boston not the other way round ) and the Habs streak did end with a victory in 86-87 followed by the Bruins winning the playoff series in 87-88. I still want the number of consecutive series we won.
  13. Okay here is a question about playoff series. What is the record for most consecutive playoff series wins by one team over another. I'm taking here about just 2 teams, A and B, and just about years in which the two teams met in the playoffs. I want the longest string of series wins by A over B, uninterupted by a series win of B over A. I'd like the name of the 2 teams involved and the number of series won during the streak. Bonus points for the year the streak started and the year it ended.
  14. I think they needed to win or tie or to score 5 goals to surpass the rangers goals scored and thus beat them out for the last playoff spot. When we fell behind we pulled the goalie and tried to score 5 goals. I think we ended up with 2 goals. Possibly both scored before we pulled the goalie. Don't know how many empty netters we gave up.
  15. Was it the final game of the season between Montreal and Chicago in 1970?
  16. Yes I agree. As I said previously, the Swiss deserved the win. Even if that goal had been counted the Swiss had 2 goals.
  17. Well I have to disagree. I think the video evidence was clear and that the puck was 100% over the line. The shot showing Gerber's glove mostly in the net with only the empty front portion outside the net made it clear the puck was in his glove and over the line. Also the blownup shot seemed to show the puck in the webbing of his glove and over the line. The problem was that the video replay official didn't have access to the very good replays shown on the CBC. I don't think the ref is to blame at all. He only got to see the play live once. The replay official got it wrong but probaby only because he didn't have the good replays that showed it was a goal.
