I'm not denying that he's slowing down, that would be ridiculous. What I'm saying is that performing at .5 ppg in the KHL isn't a reliable indication considering that he did far worse 4 seasons ago. For what it's worth, I agree that he couldn't handle 23+ minutes or along those lines. But Markov used on the powerplay would be a clear advantage, where smarts were always his bread and butter. Markov would upgrade our first wave PP, let alone 2nd. Somewhere around the 18-20 minute mark and I still think he would thrive this year.

Yes, but with that bridge burned, I just gotta try and convince myself he is almost washed up...but maybe he would still be a 40+pt d-man and worth the $6m price tag for two more years?:spamafote:

I would gladly take Markov back as a third pairing dman and powerplay specialist.  I would play Markov over Benn and Morrow.

Schlemko - Weber

Alzner - Petry

Markov - Mete

Team already has huge chunk of caproom spent on backend.

Need skilled forward (obviously centre would be best) more than a d-man, don't you think?

If we were to resign Markov, it would/should have been to be at the very least a top 4 (if not 2) dman. If he wasn't capable of handling that role, smart choice to let him walk. The only issue I have with that is that I'm not fully convinced whatsoever that he wouldn't have been able to be a top 4 dman and secondly it wasn't the initial plan not to resign him. Since we were going to resign him, I don't believe we let him walk due to the reasons we are discussing.

Markov as a top 2-4 could (have) add(ed) huge value to this team.
