  1. Habs need to set a very fast pace to start this period, to take advantage of the fact that the Sabres played last night. At the very least, it should result in some power plays as tired Sabres start grabbing and hooking.
  2. He has improved, no doubt. But that doesn't change how awful he was the first two months of the season...he really did play like his hands were encased in cement in the offensive zone for quite awhile! Glad to see he is finally loosening the grip on his stick and getting the puck to do what he wants it to. Nobody would be happier than me if this guy was able to contribute offensively on a regular basis...but...I need to see a lil' bit more of this improved play out of him before I'm sold.
  3. Before I forget, I'd like to take my share of the credit for Huet's impressive performance tonight. Knowing the Habs needed a big game from Huet, I sold him in my hockey pool yesterday. As is always the case, the guy I sold had a BIG night the next day. You're welcome.
  4. Great news....I hope Downey is next. If we're going to use a roster spot on a fighter, we should at least get one that can win a damn fight.
  5. The stats don't tell the whole story. There was a lack of hustle, some boneheaded penalties, and only a couple of guys finishing checks.
  6. It's not just that we're losing...it's how we're losing. Losing games where you played pretty well is fine...that's the normal ebb and flow of a season. But to have damn near the whole team not show up and get beaten so soundly? That's a whole different story.
  7. Kovalev could definitely use a benching...but Rivet has been pretty much useless all damn season...so no, I can't agree with that.
  8. I would list all the things the Habs did wrong in that game, but I'm too lazy to type that much. Far easier to list what was good about that game: Lats controlling the puck. Lapierre throwing the body. There, that's it...I can sum up what was good about the Habs tonight in those eight words. All else was either mediocre or flat out bad.
  9. Time to pull the trigger on a trade...for sure. This is not just a little slump...this team has quit.
  10. The only good thing I can take from that period is that Kovalev looked very determined on that last shift he took.
  11. Souray has his head up his butt tonight...it's contagious on this team right now.
  12. There is a difference between crashing the net and running the goaltender. Getting right in his face is not the same thing as trying to drive him into the back of the net.
  13. Maybe my choice of words wasn't the best...I certainly didn't mean dirty. I mean 'ugly' as in not so much finesse as hard work...finishing checks and making life as difficult for the Canucks as possible.
  14. I'm from the school of thought that believes NOBODY should be above being benched/scratched.
  15. Our guys are just so damn tight out there. Carbo should tell them to forget about trying to score pretty goals...just hit everything that moves, and throw shots from anywhere at the net while the other two forwards crash it. This team needs to get ugly for awhile...at both ends of the ice.
  16. Who the hell does Rivet think he is? If it's true he stayed home instead of reporting to the press box, he should never play another game in a Habs uniform.
  17. Probably an attempt to get him some good angle shots on Luongo on feeds from Koivu.
  18. Again, they have no jump in the first period. The boo-birds are out in force tonight.
  19. Faceoff - Yannic Perrault Speed - Mike Gartner Stickhandling - Alex Kovalev Passing - Wayne Gretzky Heart - Dino Ciccarelli Strength - Eric Lindros Wrist Shot - Joe Sakic Slapshot - Sheldon Souray Mental - Mario Lemieux Backwards Skating - Scott Niedermayer Checking - Scott Stevens Dekeing - Mario Lemieux Shot Blocking - Guy Carbonneau One-Timer - Brett Hull Leadership - Mark Messier
  20. If what Kovalev wants is a decent center, then please Bob...give him one!!!
  21. But really, the one that got away is Perrault IMO...I can't imagine that he wouldn't have helped this team. Just look at the faceoff stats, not to mention what he brings offensively.
