  1. i love it. Thornton does furniture commercials on new england TV. Apparently he really got into the character - the man is a sofa!
  2. a play like that from kovy without the helmet is a nice way of serving notice that he isn't letting the horns from last game get to him. He looks better each game and I am really liking him with the team for a while to come.
  3. first career playoff goal for rivet. Congratulations! You deserve it.
  4. boston announcer - "gonchar just barely tapped ribeiro!"
  5. those bruins fans/announcers don't sound so happy anymore bruins announcer - "well... that was painful"
  6. I know the refs are being tough, but we can't keep taking penalties like this. If nothing else it breaks up our flow.
  7. boston announcers basically calling zednik a lying, gutless pussy. I really hate them.
  8. Since I'm in Massachusetts I get the national coverage blacked out - I have to watch the boston feed. Man do I hate the boston announcers.
  9. jeez guys! C'mon! How did none of you pick svatos? I know he missed out on the art ross this year, but he been the avs first offensive threat all season long. (am i the only guy who had never heard of him until the playoffs?)
  10. If it were as simple as taking theo out for a game or two and sticking garon in his place I might consider the possibility, but people are not so mechanical. If you take out Theo you are basically telling him you have no cinfidence in him and could very well insult him permanently. You could end up losing theo forever. A goalie's confidence and ego can often be sensitive (see Roy,Hasek, Cujo,Czechmanek, etc.) and pulling your top man out on the most important night of the year seems like just the thing to destroy it. Let us say, hypothetically, that we don't care, that we have lost faith in theo and don't want him back on the team. Okay - now try and trade a five million dollar goalie who is understood to be unable to cut it in the playoffs. Philly doesn't need a goalie anymore, Colorado seems fine. Are the Rangers still buyers? Want to make that Cloutier trade that is getting so much buzz? We wouldn't be able to get Lalime if we tried at that point. Let us say that some way you get rid of him - okay... let us assume that you trade theo for a skater and that you've probably eaten some of his salary (or ended up with a horribly overpriced skater, perhaps some insane holik deal). Who is your goalie? Who is your backup goalie? Okay, put Garon in nets... he isnt playing 60 games, maybe 50-55. Who plays the other 25-30 games? Damphousse, Danis, Michaud? Maybe we bring them each up for a couple of games... have a new backup every couple of weeks! Does anyone remember Andy Chiodo and Jason LaBarbara? I dunno... I am kinda getting extreme here, but it's tough to lose faith in your top goalie and you usually end up getting hit in the head for it later.
  11. simpsons is not even close to family guy. Simpsons is very good but family guy is pure genius.
  12. i think it went in. It sucks, but I found myself hoping that the people in the booth were as blind as the refs on the ice.
  13. yeah! 19,000 new medicare cards! Low tax revenue from locals! Non-contiguous countries kick ass! Potential language issues, perhaps? I don't know what the local languages are. Acting as colonial overlords to an insignificant voting block! Great! Jamaica would have almost been better.
  14. ribeiro. In the end I guess I was making a technical argument, but I felt that in light of our tendancy (I definitely include myself) to second-guess coaching decisions I should point it out.
  15. montreal is underdog in this series, it makes little economic sense for anyone to push for montreal to throw the series... they don't need to - they are expected to lose anyways. The money would be for boston to throw the series. Also - I really don't think theo would do it. 1) He's a competitor, a star. 2) He makes 5 million dollars a year. It would make more sense for his connections to shake him down than push for him to throw a game. 3) Modern tax enforcement and gambling surveilance makes big fixes more difficult than in 1910's. 4)Theo makes a hell of a lot more money if he proves himself a steady, winning goalie than if he folds. Also - blah! Whatever, it really isn't worth talking about.
  16. A lot of good that did. The Bruins score - bad decision. Plain and simple. The result of a decision does not validate or invalidate that decision. A decision must be judged on the merit of the logic which led to it. If I walk to the store to buy a bottle of milk and get hit by a truck on the way, it does not mean that walking to the store was a bad decision. If, on the other hand, I know that I would be crossing a dangerous intersection where trucks like to run red lights it perhaps would be a bad decision to walk. I am not saying that dowd on the f/o was necisarily a good decision... but your argument lacks merit.
