  1. One has to wonder what kind of game we'll be treated to tonight...? The emoticons you guys came up with are terrific.
  2. Very good Yeahbud. I hadn't figured out all the theological personas, but I can certainly agree that its pretty hard to beat Maurice Richard as at least a minor deity! While Max can walk on water...especially in the winter, I think he'll have to do a little better than rising from the ice, to beat out JC in the starring role. Er.... that was not Trembley of course...
  3. Sounds like a pretty good week-end. Are you going now to reserve a spot for the royal wedding? Inquiring minds.....
  4. Hi Walmsley Young people are, I agree at least superficially immune to reality o a conscious level. But they are also inescapably real, like it or not. I once read an interesting sign at the corner of Cooper Street and Elgin in Ottawa. It said that evil is the pursuit of an illusion nurtured by an inablility to face reality. Coping mechanisms, to use psychological jargon, like the sense of bulletproofness, are known to be just that, but this knowledge is denied. Ask a teen if he will die like everyone else and the idea for almost all outside of leukemia wards is a far off planet, well beyond his radar. But still we are profoundly impacted by impacts with profound implications. That the kid pushes his denial button and jumps on the ice is true, but that doesn't mean he isn't significantly affected all the same. Augustine's defninition of evil, is the best I have ever read. He wrote that evil is the absence of a 'good' that should be there. In the case of Charo's hit, it was the absence of an attitude of respect for another human being that should have been there, for Pax it was the absence and loss of consciousness and capacity that could have turned lifelong; for the league it was the absence of respect for the wider context of human society and its principles which warranted at least a significant penalty for reckless disregard. For us it was the absence of a natural and fairly innocent enthusiasm and and the wonderful spirit that emerges in the ballet of a beautifully played game. In the end, we were diverted from our diversions and not entertained by our entertainment. The team too suffered this inevitable absence and became a team without its essence, its spirit. It has been argued that we are material beings with a spiritual side, but I say we are spiritual beings with a material side. We need both to play the best game in creation.
  5. That's my take too... a little easier to do after a period ....
  6. I think CC was really on to something. The grieving period seems over, perhaps due particularly to the good news of his immanent recovery. I just SAW IT>> HE DID SMILE!!!!! IT LOOKS OK!
  7. Well CC That was a very emotionally satisfying win!! This has helped me bounce back from Pax. Good game guys. Amen, amen. I've never seen that! What's it look like??
  8. Now that was freeeekins sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeetttttt!
  9. Where are all my fingernails? And how come Chicago got the OT penalty... is there no sense of tradition?
  10. Hard to feel that sorry for Brower for missing the hit
  11. Certainly an excellent first period for the first 17 minutes.
  12. Good post CC I think you are right on. Pax unconscious on the ice pulled us from excitement and entertainment to mortality. The great escape could not escape. We are human. We are one in a real way, and the seriousness of Pax's cruel fate weighed heavily upon us as it should if we are human. Koivu's eye injury ended that series. No one was the same. Why should they be able to play like they are the same. We are not the same. The game shifted into perspective as a game; merely a relatively insignificant passtime. A diversion. To divert us from things like young men nearly losing their lives or ability to walk being part of the greater game that is not a game.
  13. Saint Augustine defined evil brilliantly as the absence of a 'good' that should be there. In short, the 'bad' stuff can only exist in what is good. And our team is good. They have done one hell of a job with an injury parade that would have sunk most AHL OOPS! NHL teams. That's good coaching and management. That's getting a lot out of what ya got including a really good goaltender. And they will reappear. They can play with amazing precision and speed at times and they will again. Nice going on surviving a dreadful series of key injuries and still even making a run for first in our segment. Go Habs Go!
  14. I'm enjoying the dreaded two goal lead wit minutes to go..
  15. I'm with you. I have a lot of admiration for this team, and let's remember that one would have to be a little on the insanse side and definitely not human to maintain some kind of freakish 'enthusiasm' with three and four games per week over an 82 game season. JM and PG have done a wonderful job in the face of crippling losses right from the outset and have put a half AHL team into a much better position than a lot of other teams, so kudos and thanks to them. I've got 5 bucks says we're in. I love these new smileys guys... Wonderful to be in Toronto and put in a Quebec flag, for I LOVE Quebec!
  16. I think you make good points here CC. I have often been surprised at how very well this team has performed and outperformed for stretches in the season. I attribute this to JM and the gang. I haven't a clue what to do or not do with the players and don't have a platform from which I can criticize. Go Hans Go! This season ain't over at all. A few games ago we were heading for the top of our group. Despair is too easy. P.S. ... great additions to the emoticons.... thanks
  17. I'm such a slut. I'll take the two points any old time... But even when we get blown out... I'm STILL not a Leaf fan...life is good...
  18. The team has done remarkably well this year after starting the years with the loss of Markov... and the injuries piled up from there. Kudos to JM and the coaching staff who at various times even had the team playing over their heads. While I'm sure coaches make mistakes , large and small... like who doesnt' I believe that in most cases one actually has to be in the room and behind the bench to fine-tune one's decision matrix. Our team is not an offensive juggernaut while we show pretty good depth and savvy moves from PG to keep us in the game, and our team coaching system, based upon Price is the only one we have to play. And it works, overall. Go Habs Go. It's also a good time to reflect upon our team and thank God that guys like me arent coaching. :-)
  19. Hahahahaha. Every team gets a stinker now and then.. wasn't Boston losing badly a while ago? I can remember other smurf teams leaving Boston in the snow of their blades. Now I'm going to shoot myself.
  20. Well, I will let my daughter know that her prayers were heard and answered wheher through ordinary or extra-ordinary means. I am very , very7 happy for this young man. Who is the patron saint of the Monteal Canadians? Probably all of them... :-) Great great news!
