If Tavares resigns with MTL after the 2018 season, then NYI gets the two 1st round picks, otherwise they get one 1st round pick (along with Plex, Gally and Sergachev) as the initial trade. In order to get a top 5 centre in the NHL, we're going to have to offer quite a bit. Remember, Tavares is 26 - locking him up for 8 years before he becomes a UFA at the end of next year means MTL has him until he's 35 and becomes part of our 'core'. Plekanec has been a loyal soldier for the Habs forever and he's a defensive workhorse, but he's worth sending in a trade in order to get an offensive powerhouse like Tavares. Nostalgia creeps up and wanting to see Plex win a Cup in MTL is valid but Danault, Mitchell and Lehkonen can fill in for Plex. Gallagher is a tough pill to swallow in trading away but MTL needs a centre and have an abundance of wingers in the AHL. If none of those players work then sign a free agent. It's much easier to find a good winger on the open market than an elite centre. I honestly think Byron and Radulov have made Gally expendable. Sergachev is a promising blue chip prospect but we din't know for sure if he'll become a 'Markov' or a 'Lumme'. He entices the Isles for sure and I think is necessary to close this deal. With Noah Juulsen on the horizon I think Sergy is expendable. MTL lineup for the next 2 years: Pacioretty - Tavares - Byron Scherbak - Galchenyuk - Radulov Lehkonen - Danault - Shaw Carr - Mitchell - McCarron UFA's: Desharnais, Flynn Emelin* - Weber Beaulieu - Petry Markov* - Juulsen Pateryn Price Montoya * UFA resigned Obviously Bergevin needs to make it all fit under the cap but that's a problem I think is a good one.

Great to see Scherbak, Lehkonen and McCarron all pot goals. They are the future of this team afterall...

I hate to spoil a great win with negative commentary, but why the #%$& is Johnston playing? What did Redmond do to Therrien? This makes absolutely no sense. Johnston is barely an AHL defencemen, why is he playing all these games while Redmond (whose played 120 NHL games) sits?

Super happy for Scherbak. And Radu does it again. What would a line of Scherbak / Galchenyuk / Radulov look like on the ice?

$20M per year is what it would cost for both Price/Tavares. This is where tough choices need to be made with Markov, Emelin, Flynn - all coming off the books. I think MTL could fit them both in but that means Radulov and Galchenyuk would cause a rinkle as well. Good GM's could figure this out.

I agree. Desharnais is a useful bottom six player, and MT has no problems using him on the wing.

I can't get over just how green those Dallas uniforms are... they look like shamrocks out there. Dallas sports teams have no colour system for their uniforms. They need fashion help.

Why is Johnston playing instead of Redmond? Any news on Hudon? I really hope he has a chance to crack this lineup when he's healthy, I really like his game (over Andrighetto, Carr, Terry and Farnham).

I'm starting to think that Hudon doesn't want to play for MTL and is requesting to stay in the AHL... it makes no sense that he doesn't get called up to play on the 2nd or 3rd line to replace either Carr or Andrighetto - he's played better than those two in his limited time with the clubs and I'm sure Therrien/Muller have noticed this. Yet, he's back in the minors. This is a weird one.

Hopefully McCarron will play against Boston, welcome to the team big guy!

Okay, with McCarron being called up does that mean he will play? I'd rather see McCarron and Hudon in the lineup rather than Carr and Andrighetto. And what the hell happened to JDLR?
