Yeas, it is looking like a miss but not a bad hitting average for the season if Staal and Perry are 2/3 of the fourth line all the way to the playoffs, that is fine by me. better than Ott/King/Martinse a few year back when we were kind of contending (or pretending if you are a glass half-empty type of guy)

New players means new lines - What would you do?

I hope they sit Weber and Perry at some point to rest them, although the cap situation will make it hard to work A .500 record down the stretch while resting some players would be the way to go for me -
Thx @dlbalr

yup, exactly how I've learned to see it too.

The Ignore Option

Bump #3 Just got tired of trying to interject a “squared” post into a circular thread... round, and round, and round -
Wrong thread @dlbalr
-
Ah, ok. I get it. “Fire MB” Stuff on the wrong thread
-
No need to butt-in in my question to @hab29RETIRED to take a jab at me. I asked a simple question: who is this unicorn GM that will come in to do a better job than MB ? I am not defending MB (that is another thread), I am just asking who is this other person who is better (just better, not soooo much better) than MB ?
-
Wouldn’t MH be MB_V2.0 ? no experience , good track record in a lesser role, former player ? What is the guaranty that he is a sure fire improvement ? can he bring a cup in 2022? or will he be going in a 5 year plan laden in misery and losing records ?
-
@hab29RETIRED you made your point; so, tell me, who is this incredible GM that will come in this summer and do a better job than MB?

Hard to tell the Habs won from the posts seems like we are at the beginning of a streak ! -
since 1993 , I believe my point is that the on-ice results are on the coach and players
-
Good GM: 1. Manages the cap 2. Provides a competitive bunch of players to the coaching staff 3. hires good coaches that use the players he signed to win more often than not 4. Hires good scouts and a smart amateur talent evaluator to give him a good list of draft picks year after year 5. Makes timely and decisive decisions on player personnel

I am glad we didn’t sell the farm with Chiarot back playing quicker than a new player would have cleared COVID protocol Now let’s see how he does let’s get a winning streak going ! -
I agree with this part of your post. I am not drinking the cool aid believing for even a second that they have elite prospects right now to make a team a contender in three years what I am saying is that the organization has made good progress in preparing that next crop of NHL talent while at the same time doing smart tweaks to have a shot during the declining years of Weber, Price, Petry. I do not want the team to mimic TOR because they got lucky in their tanking, and Indo not want the team to be blown apart in the summer of ‘21 that’s it, patience now, swift decisions in the fall

If you want to share your admiration for the Leafs, just say so I don’t share that view. Without Matthews they would not be this close to contending , their other top players are really good but not Crosby/Ovechkin good
-
Granted , it is more engertaining to have a Daly dose of that I’ll take an order of that with some wings and a cold draft please 🍺

I like it, makes lots of sense There are rumours that Toffoli and Drouin are playing injured. TVA had video on both at practice If that is true, the lineup you propose may not happen to lessen the load on the injured players -
yes, I am because finally we are seeing results in Laval and the young prospects at the NHL level are ok not stars but decent NHLers Also the Habs have managed the cap well and have a lot of picks coming up , with the pending UFAs and the draft picks, they can either some/all UFAs walk and sign another UFA that fits a need ( top 4 puck moving LD) and sign some of their UFAs worth keeping (Danault as a 3C) the way the roster is built , the Habs have flexibility in signing a couple of their own UFAs before the expansion draft too over all, I think the situation is progressing well despite this season frustrating inconsistency : PATIENCE

Let’s manage expectations the D is being rebuilt with Romanov, Norlinder, maybe Harris and Ghule at this point Brook is getting closer to being a 2nd pair D and Fleury a 3rd pair D They signed Petry to be the stopgap until the RDS are ready The Left Ds have a bit more runway. the current window goes through Price, Weber and Petry playing awesome and the Danault line to perform as I. It’s best years a new GM can probably make good changes and improve the team in the short term; but deviating from MB’s retool plan will set the team back a generation
-
that is a weird strategy to improve a hockey team, to choke the revenue of their owner?! Like someone pushing to get me laid off until my kids become A+ students , WTF !!!
-
that's fine, that is why we share our opinions on this forum: to agree or disagree Until the team is healthy and some of the veterans get some overdue rest, I will refrain from judging game-to-game Habs need to get over the hump, stay course, qualify in the fourth spot and be ready for the Leafs. That's it, that's all Individual player performance and team consistency only matters in the playoffs, which I am sure they will make Next season's team in maybe 50% or 60% of what we have now, I expect more churn. So I am not getting all worked up for nothing right now

I’ll bite on that one I can still defend Weber, and the D, because on the goals I saw (didn’t watch the whole game) it seems like the forwards are not supporting the D wingers up high or near the boards pinning an adversary or covered and the center skating around in circle and late on the play Also, forwards seemed to be waiting for the puck and hitting center ice from a stopped position; resulting in a turnover, so the D were staying back and not joining the rush lack of structure and lack of F support exposes slower D like Weber
