Kovy will get the C if Koivu doesn't return and Kovalev does. I'm not sold on the Koivu to Minnesota idea. I mean, he would have to go play on a team where his younger brother is Captain, rather than stay in a town where he is the Captain. Honestly, I could see Koivu landing somewhere else all together, somewhere no one really expects. (San Jose? lol)

I don't think this signifies the end of Koivu in Montreal - as Gainey will wait and see who he can sign up front before making his official offer to Koivu. e.g.: a) Gainey signs both Sedins at 14M per season... then offers Koivu 2.5M per season to be a #2/#3 centre b) Gainey fails to sign any of the big name UFAs... then offers Koivu 4M per season to be a #1/#2 centre

Not sure it has been mentioned here already, but didn't Paquet re-enter the draft? (i.e. we no longer hold his rights?) Could be wrong, but I remember reading this about one of your prospects a couple of weeks back.

Yeah, for sure, but the fact that everyone is jumping on the bandwagon is pretty ridiculous. I'm sure that 75% of the ppl "mourning" via FB status' right now were making fun of him yesterday.

Everyone's status on FB right now is crying out about this. I'm not insensitive to it, but, sort of crazy. We go from no one talking about Michael Jackson for ages to everyone talking about Michael Jackson.

With Koivu, at least you know what you're going to get... can't quite say the same about Kovalev. If Gainey is looking to invest his money in sure things, signing Kovalev certainly isn't a priority. Komisarek, Tanguay, and Koivu would be my picks to keep around as well.

I think Muller is well liked by the players, so he offers that aspect to the coaching staff - a guy who can provide motivation when needed, allowing Martin to focus on being the boss, and less of a "friend". Of course, I'm not familiar with Martin's exact coaching style in terms of how he builds relationships with the players, but I figure he'll be pretty strict from the get-go. Jarvis always seemed to be Gainey's guy - but I never really heard much about what he brought to the table. Here's hoping the Habs can find a former NHL defenseman as the other assistant - or at least someone who can work with the defensemen a bit better.
