  1. "Should make a movie about that...." (shortcat1) Great idea..... I can see it now - Joliat, Morenz, Vezina, Plante, the Rocket, and a host of other legends appearing in the mist...... and every opponent would be messing their shorts! Yes, 5 more in a row would be the norm - awwww damn it, it's time to wake up and see what's really happening in habs-land!
  2. think about it - really now..... this isn't even an issue The Habs are in a long term plan that Gainey outlined early in his tenure. He isn't going to suddenly snap and change it because things aren't going right in the blahs of a dreadful January run. He was hired to build a contender and it's heading in that direction. Why would management blow that plan up because they aren't winning a cup earlier than they expected to, or because fans are so bloody impatient. That knee jerk reaction to fan and media pressure prior to Gainey is exactly why the Habs are at this point/dilemma. The new salary cap has altered the landscape - trading is not a viable solution like it was prior to this. Salary and contract structure now dictate what can be done. Few teams are in a position to take on the contracts of what you might like to dump? The only alternative is to build from scratch, or with what you already have in your system(if your lucky to have that.) And with that reality in front of all NHL teams, who really is there out there that is even equal to or any better than than Bob Gainey. No, this isn't even a consideration worth discussing!!!!! Changing horses in midstream would be even more disastrous than some seem to currently think it may be. The grass is always greenest after the storm has passed.....
  3. KABOOM....... realism, realism, realism!!!!! (and there just isn't any of it here.) I mean, sometimes it gets so bad here I actually need to go to one of the Leaf fan's forum sites just for a bit of sanity(and that is pretty bad if you ask me?) If you're going to suggest trades you have to have ones that make some sense. This is just blowing up the team cause they aren't winning it all today. Gainey has a plan and some longterm foresight. Examples like this are best left to the EA games generation - and they might not even happen there? Ideas like these are just short term solutions to stop the temporary bleeding. I must admit that I spend little time responding to posts here, however I check it out basically every day to get my Habs fix here in Southern Ontario. As a Habs fan since the late 1950's I have seen both the glory years and the lean years and patience has always been the one great virtue of Habs management. Players were never rushed to the NHL and Bob Gainey is just following an age old, tried & tested method that has made the Habs hockey's # 1 record and tradition. So, PATIENCE GENTLEMAN - I'd rather be in the hunt for years to come than shoot it all on a possible chance for this season.... can anybody here say LEAFS?
  4. I'll take the 4 foam fingers please.....
  5. Would somebody please tell me what more the Habs could've got in exchange for Hossa????? PLEASE..... In all the opportunities he was given he never lived up to his so called potential - fact! Think about it - if you're trading in a race car with an engine that can't seem to operate at full throttle after it gets out of the garage, what would you truly expect to get in exchange? Surely not more than what it was really worth..... Obviously Gainey saw something in this guy that everyone else can't, or doesn't want to. p.s. we all seem to forget that many fringe trades are part of a bigger picture - it's called playing the game within the manager's circle. A liitle one here and a another one there that may open the door for a bigger deal (quite often it's simply referred to as greasing the proverbial pig) it's all part of the cost of doing business
  6. You're right about Bouillon's speed and he plays a big man's game but in the end he's just a fringe defenceman. And I always love an underdog - but he isn't strong enough to carry a big full time role in the NHL. Eventually he's gonna get pushed aside by the bigger boys. As for Benoit he's got the tools and if he bulks up then's he's got more upside potential than a lot of guys who got drafted. Seen him take a few big boys on here and make them look bad..... he definitely won't back down from it! He's gonna push a few guys like Hainsey and some of the other guys who were drafted.
  7. He's still young and lots of time to fill out - realistically the NHL is still a couple of years away. As for Bouillon - let's be serious. The guy has a big heart and plays tough, but he won't be pushing any of the monsters out of the front of the net, anytime or anywhere - especially with the new rules in place. I love an underdog, but..... (Personally I think most of the fascination with players like Bouillon in Montreal is the fact they are native sons. And it's only natural to hope for hometown boys to make it! Problem is though, is it best for the team, or just for local interests? It's about winning the cup - and who cares where they come from as long as they're the ones capable of delivering it!) [And I'm French Canadian extraction if anyone's wondering]:hlogo::can::que:
  8. Benoit's showing is no suprise to anyone who saw him play on a regular basis here with the Kitchener Rangers. In fact Ranger fans were shocked when he wasn't drafted - as a Habs fan I was very happy when they were able to snap him up! He's tough and plays with a mean streak, reads the ice extremely well, excellent playmaker coming out of his own zone, an excellent leader and he puts some points on the board to boot. This guy slipped through the system for some reason - it has nothing to do with a lack of depth on the blueline. He has a lot of potential and this news isn't surprising any of us who watched him playover the last couple of years. This could turn out to be a real steal thanks to Savard's eye for talent. He's definitely capable of playing for someone in the NHL..... all the tools are there! :contract::/)
  9. "With the conclusion of the negotiations and the ratification of the new agreement, the parties concur that this is an appropriate action for the future," said Goodenow. "I am fortunate to have had the opportunity to serve the Players over the past 15 years and to have had the support of a tremendous staff at the NHLPA. I wish the Players every success under the new CBA." apparently the parties have a mutual agreement :clap right, more like - 'we don't want you anymore'(Signed Tie Domi) - 'well then I think I better be leaving, real fast(signed BG) :/)
  10. TSN has just reported that Goodenow is stepping down..... Ted Saskin is his replacement!
  11. According to the contracts posted on Habs World that the Canadiens currently have, Brisebois is signed for the upcoming season at 4.5m? It does not appear that this is a club option or a player option year in this contract? While they may have an existing contract buyout clause, the new CBA indicates that the Canadiens could not sign him back this year if they choose to excercise this option. While I'm no lawyer my understanding of the new agreement is quite clear that he will not be back at a lower cost through any buyout. It's keep him at 4.5 or buy him out! Unless the Habs have some magic exception to the new CBA there are no exceptions to the contract buyout aspects with regards to resigning a player they have bought out - this contract option probably just dictates the financial terms of any buyout they negotiated into it at the time they agreed to terms with Brisebois. The Habs have enough small players and they need some size up front, especially given the fact that the area in front of the net is going to get bigger. it's time to bring the young guys up, tough it through a couple of lean years maybe and get some high drafts - then imagine what the future will be! Anyone care to remember how the Avs got that good, not to mention what's happening in Pittsburgh with young talent on the horizon. You need to build for the long run under this CBA. :contract::?-
