  1. "Note: Power Rankings are produced using a formula that takes into account a compilation of individual player grades based on statistical production. More importantly, the team grades intend to take into account which players are in the lineup to replace those who are out due to injury or suspension and aim to reflect which team would win a seven-game series on a neutral rink." So, from what this very limited and unclear text states, individual player stats + depth (mesured by giving more brownie points to stats accumulated by "replacement" players) = who would win a seven game series? Think this could explain the screwed up rankings. Way too many variables left out of the equation.......for starters nothing in there takes into account the team's actual performance!!! Guess this might explain Carolina being third in the NHL in their rankings and a bunch of other absurdities.
  2. This is the most ridiculous ranking I've seen in a very very long time. Did anybody notice Carolina is third in the list. This is even more ridiculous than the Leafs second (which in of itself is pretty sad....Toronto deserves a good ranking but not second by ant stretch of the imagination). Montreal and Vancouver are seriously underestimated in this list. Some serious wacky tabacky being smoked at TSN.
  3. Some serious R&D is needed to develop "camouflage" pads whose color changes to seemlessly reflect the back of the net. What an advantage!
  4. Great post Capt.Crunch. Begin's leadership and heart are huge for the Habs. He's a fantastic player to have on board.
  5. There was a poll that was taken on RDS TV last night. The question was: "How many goals do you think Kovalchuk will score this year?" The choices ranged from a low of somewhere around 10 to a high of over 40. The majority of votes taken had him scoring over 40 goals and the next highest was between 30 and 40 goals. So, the great majority of those who responded said that he would score at least 30 goals. Would you agree? I'd say he will fall in the 30 to 40 category.
  6. Players in the crease not being called on interference seems to be a frequent event so far this season. With the way the refs have been applying all other rules, you gotta wonder if this isn't intentional on the NHL's part (ie. so that they get higher scoring games). [Edited on 2005/10/12 by Rooster]
  7. Heard Dags will be back in the line up taking Ivanans' spot from last night. I'd gather that he will start the game back in the 2nd line with Higgins probably going to the 4th.
  8. I was looking for this, it makes absolute sense in the context (back to back games.......game away from the Bell center). Looking forward to seeing how Danis will fare against the offensively talented Trashers.
  9. I have. That is my opinion and I don't just base it on Luongo's season start. I think Luongo will become (is becoming) an all time great goalie while Theo is "simply" a good starter (and I don't put any pejorative connotation to that). Rider is a fine sniper, but has other meaningfull shotcomings. If Montreal, with its offensive depth, could have traded Theo and Ryder for Luongo that would have been a MAJOR steal in my books. I can understand that others may have different evaluations of these players, but I'm pretty comfortable with mine. Anyway, like I said, that trade was most probably pure Lupien fabrication.
  10. While I'm far from being a Théodore basher, I still think that if such a trade could have taken place, Montreal would have come out better for it. But that's ok. we can't have the very best of the very best of everything - not possible. We can be sure, though, that we do have one of the best and, for that, we should be thankful. :hlogo::ghg::hlogo: and that makes 1500. I never expected to see this. All comes from yackin' 'n yackin' and, importantly, the 'discussions' with BTH (a side project of BTO - BTH really meaning Bachman Turner Hoverdrive ;) ). [Edited on 2005/10/12 by shortcat1] I very seriously doubt that there was ever a "Theo for Roberto" trade on the table. That has all the smell of being put out by his agent to his media buddies to put a little pressure on Kennan during the negotiations. Theo and Ryder (as it was) for Roberto would have been a steal for the Habs IMHO and Florida could have gotten a lot more. Anyway, I don't think they were shopping Roberto at all this offseason.
  11. Would of thought it would be the retirement home. Oh well, best of luck.
  12. With the way Perezhogin has played so far, I don't think anbody is in a hurry to see Zednik back......let him heal well....very well. Perezhogin is showing IMHO that he is a better fit on that line than Zednik, but I have the feeling that, notwithstanding, that spot is his upon his return.
  13. Thanks for the great link 86Habs and welcome to the forum.
  14. I've read in a few places that the Habs have NEVER started a season at 4-0 in all their glorious past. I was surprised. History could be made tonight at the Temple of Hockey ladies and gentleman!
  15. I don't think they will be upsetting the teams veterans and causing a commotion after two games (which they won). Dags might well lose his spot or may in fact have already lost it. Perezhogin should take his spot. I think that will be it for now. I look much more for a gradual change in the lineup as the season wears on if the rookies continue to impress and some vets let down. I don't see any big changes to the line up in week one, especially after two road wins.
  16. I fully agree. Good teams find a way to win. So far the Habs have had that all important intangible.
  17. what's that? oh... I was confused by <<>> [Edited on 2005/10/7 by shortcat1] Actually Fuzzy also writes posts made by Rooster.....this way he can get away with even more posts during game threads. I suspect half of all posters here are actually Fuzzy.
  18. You'd have to ask Bob... I don't know why because we'd have got nothing in return of Dags?! Guess it stands to see if the return is worth the difference between the two.
  19. I agree. I didn't get to see last night's game, but Dags hasn't been impressive other than the quick pass to Ryder on the goal. Defensively, however...argh!!! I'm liking the rookies, though. Dags does one thing and one thing only....shoot. However he does it very well. However his other lackings (especially skating) are probably going to burn him in a no grabs or hooking faster game. Why did we trade Hossa and keep Dags again?
  20. Got 2 of them so far... Actually had a thought for that when Higgins scored. Quick.......lotery numbers....tell us:)
  21. Think Plekanec and Higgins will have a much bigger role with the team at season's end than they have now at some veterans expense (Dags, Ribs).
  22. But shouln't we celebrate them for we had wished them well and now our wish is realized?
  23. Lol, same as Hossa. I had noted it this morning........damn, we could have used two 82+ goal scorers on the team.
