  1. Well that was an interesting game. I started writing the 3 Stars in the 2nd intermission - with all that happened, I may be done by midnight. (Better not be, I'm done by 11 one way or the other.) No quit from the Habs tonight, despite being cheapshotted and goaded all night, props to the despite the outcome. 157 PIMS appears to be the final total by the way. Come to think of it, they're missing a few Hab misconducts, this may have a shot at getting near 200.
  2. 3rd trade of the day, Chicago acquires Michael Frolik and Alexander Salak for Jack Skille, Hugh Jessiman, and David Pacan (a 6th rounder). Jessiman is widely regarded as the biggest bust of the 2003 draft. My 2 cents: What in the world is Dale Tallon thinking? Chicago wins this hands down, even if Salak never suits up for them. Frolik was also on my short list of players to discuss in my upcoming HW Trade Deadline Primers, back to the drawing board there. NJ and SJ close on a trade as well.
  3. So was Price actually. No matter what the outcome is tonight, this is a rallying game for both teams. The passion and energy has been terrific and it's been fun to watch - I've been ecstatic, livid, and almost every emotion in between...and it's only the 2nd period.
  4. Price was run at the end of the period, no one's had a chance to go after Thomas, should they have desired so. Hard to call out Moen for something he couldn't have had a chance to do, save for making a beeline for him afterwards, which would have earned himself a lengthy suspension. I'm stunned at the 10 he got, I thought he didn't do much there.
  5. Isles acquire former top prospect Al(varo) Montoya from Phoenix for a 6th rounder. Shockingly, he's off to the minors and not at least backing up Koskinen.
  6. Let me guess...the Habs should feel honoured to be on the same ice surface as the Bruins. They should be thankful that Lucic went after Price, it's a sign of respect? Actually, you probably could make that argument come to think of it. There we go, they finally updated the penalties...4 for Lucic, 2 for Price, 10 for Moen. 4 on 4 to start the 2nd.
  7. Are you kidding me??? Price and Lucic get offsetting minors so the Habs are still shorthanded. And Moen gets 10??? ...Price gets 2 for getting crosschecked, wow. Edit: The NHL statsheet says Lucic has 6 PIMS in the 1st, which means another penalty may not be reported. That helps a bit, it'd undo the PP at least.
  8. The first 12 minutes or so weren't bad, I actually thought the Habs were the better team in that stretch. Then Boston scored and it all went downhill from there. Kostitsyn looks awful out there and Subban is looking a little flustered. I've got a bad feeling about him this game, Boston's going to find a way to rile him up. 3 Hab forwards had shots that period - Gomez and Pyatt (yes, Pyatt) had 2, Desharnais 1. Gotta be better in that department. I'm eagerly awaiting the penalty summary for that scrum at the end of the period.
  9. It's not a written loophole per se, but if the player is deemed to contribute to his own misfortune, the offending player (the suspendee) often gets away with a slightly lesser punishment. In Tyutin's case, the league could potentially have seen that Tyutin did see him coming and put himself in that situation; thus, some blame falls to him. Not saying I agree with it but that seems to be the way suspensions get handed out sometimes.
  10. Whether it's officially the repeat offender tag or not, the bias is still there on Campbell's part. Also, judging from the forfeited salary ($87,804), it is still in effect here as using the repeat offender formula yields that forfeited salary. Finally, learning these blasted formulas actually comes in handy...
  11. I was thinking that as well...I'm guessing it's the QMI guy who first broke the story but I could be wrong.
  12. It looked to me that Tyutin turned which means he could (should?) have seen him coming. I know it sucks to blame the recipient but considering that often happens when discipline is handed out, 4 seemed steep by that logic.
  13. Cooke got 4 games at least...I thought that was a bit steep but the repeat offender element came into play.
  14. Kevin Poulin done for the year. I'd ask if things could get any worse for the Isles but knowing their luck, it will. Looking at Koskinen-Martin (a CHL goalie and I don't mean Canadian Hockey League) as the tandem vs the Habs tomorrow.
  15. That's the best way to deal with a game against the Devils - forget as quickly as possible.
  16. Since bar started, I'll wait a bit before editing his post with my own template. News for Boston, Caron in for Seguin, Mark Stuart also scratched, Thomas to start.
  17. This is what I use - http://www.prosports...Years/index.htm Also, full conditions on the pick: If Lupul is still in Toronto by the 40-game mark in 2012-13, the Leafs will instead get the Ducks' 6th rounder in 2013. If he's gone by then, then the Leafs get the 4th. Leafs don't appear to be done today either, Gustafsson was yanked early in the AHL game (with a 7-1 lead) and the Isles are said to be frantically scrambling for a goalie...just what we need for tomorrow... Edit: Gustafsson had a heart murmur that caused him to be pulled, or so the coach is saying.
  18. Decent deal for both sides, Lupul hasn't done much with the Ducks and is more expensive than Beauchemin. Gardiner's a former 1st rounder, gives the Leafs something they really didn't have - a competent prospect. The 4th rounder is conditional. (For those wondering why the pick is in 2013, blame the Habs, who hold Anaheim's 4th rounders in 2011 and 2012.)
  19. You beat me to it - I just fired up the computer, opened FP...then saw you had it started.
  20. Boyd takes a late penalty killing the comeback chances. 4-3 final. http://theahl.com/stats/game-summary.php?game_id=1008087
  21. More good news/bad news: Dumont scored for Hamilton but before that, Bryan Cameron scored...4-3 Abbotsford, late 3rd.
  22. Yep, Mikko Koskinen now makes his NHL debut. The new backup is rushing over from Bridgeport; this is getting quite sad. On the other hand, Montreal plays the Isles in 2 days...
