  1. Excellent! Great first pick for MB, welcome to Montreal Alex!
  2. There's the biggest shocker of the day :-p
  3. This is my secret hope. Beaulieu, Kristo and next year's 1st round pick for the 2nd overall pick. Grab Yakupov and Galchenyuk. Sign me up!
  4. James Mirtle's saying that there's a chance Yakupov falls to 3. Now THAT would be a homerun pick for the Habs! http://twitter.com/mirtle/status/216192929352519680
  5. For a habs league hosted on Habsworld we must be able to find someone to take the mighty Canadiens
  6. Gallant would be an excellent hire, I'm very on board with that.
  7. There were some rumours yesterday about Martin Lapointe becoming one of Therrien's assistants. Anyone know what he's been doing since he retired?
  8. Not at all, I disagree with the hiring of Therrien, but to say he's in the same class as Quinn is ridiculous. Pat Quinn, in his career, sits: 5th all-time in career games coached 4th all-time in career coaching wins 4th all-time in playoff games coached 5th all-time in playoff coaching wins Again, i'm not saying we should have hired Quinn, but to say he's a worse option than Therrien really shows who is blinded here.
  9. I am by no means a Pat Quinn supporter, and he wouldn't have been on my desired candidates list, BUT I certainly think there is a case to be made that he is a better head coach than Michel Therrien. Frankly, it's quite comical to imply that Therrien is a better coach.
  10. Would you prefer I say a terrible NHL track record. He failed with us once before, he failed in Pittsburgh and since being fired in 09 how many head coaching jobs has he even been considered for? This is the first time I've heard his name come up in connection with a head coaching vacancy in 3 years. If he's such a great coach surely some other team would have called, no?
  11. Let's be honest, that would have been the case regardless of who was chosen to be the next head coach. The fact that Bergevin has elected to hire a guy with such a poor track record, let alone a retread, opens Therrien up to even further criticism.
  12. Couldn't agree more... I hope I'm wrong but I suspect this will go down as the first mistake made by a rookie GM. Terrible, terrible decision.
  13. couldn't agree more. if there isn't a solid proven coach out there, regardless of language, then we should take a shot with someone who could really turn into something special. I just hate the thought of picking a retread like Therrien. We know exactly what Therrien is and that's mediocre. We should strive for something more.
  14. which I was thrilled to have heard, I just wish that same principle applied to the head coaching search as well. We should be looking for the best, PERIOD. The best coach, the best GM, the best players. If those happen to be francophones, great, but if not, then so be it.
  15. I wont ever accept it. I'm a fan of winning, period. I'm not a fan of placating a faction of people who are still fighting a battle that should have ended 20 years ago. This team will never be able to return to its winning ways as long as it continues to ignore a majority of eligible candidates for front office and coaching positions.
  16. I just don't like that we deliberately limit our options. While there aren't any unilingual coaches out there screaming for an opportunity, I think we can all agree that there are plenty of guys out there with more ability than Michel Therrien. Not that I'm advocating for any of these guys, but I would include Sutter, Maurice, Wilson, Eakins, Renney, etc.
  17. Reports are saying that it's between Crawford and Therrien. I'll lose it if we end up hiring Michel Therrien as head coach. He was awful when he was with us and he was a terrible coach with the Penguins. I see no reason to believe that he's suddenly figured it all out. Hiring him would be a catastrophic mistake by Bergevin. I don't love the idea of Crawford either frankly, but compared to Therrien there is no competition. The fact that we have to settle for third rate coaching options makes me furious. When this team continues to perform at a mediocre level, francophone fans will have to be satisfied that at least they can listen to their coach explain the futility in French. Clearly that is more important than bringing in someone who can win. As for me, I'd rather we brought in a coach that, you know, actually is decent.
  18. I guess that means he wont be limited to scouting prospects and will also be working with pro scouting.
  19. Team just announced Mellanby will be the Director of Player Personnel http://canadiens.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=632943
  20. 1. Vigneault 2. Quennville 3. Boucher 4. Roy Absolutely no interest in hiring retreads like Hartley, Crawford or Therrien, PASS
  21. Yah I follow the draft pretty well and I also hadn't hear much about TJ Graham. I'm always skeptical when the so-called "draft experts" call somebody a reach, or a steal. All they really mean is that they had that player rated lower. But just as teams differ in their evaluations of players, so too do draft experts. The Bills clearly needed to upgrade WR, but it was more than that. they have plenty of possession receiver (Johnson, Jones, Nelson, Hagan, Ruvell, Roosevelt, etc.) but nobody (other than Easley, who hasn't proven he can stay healthy) that can beat a team deep. I think Nix and Gailey really invision what this team would look like if they had a true deep threat. The reality is that while there were a bunch of other WRs on the board when the Bills took Graham, they were all slower guys (players who ran the 40 in 4.5-4.6) and Graham ran it in 4.3. Also keep in mind, Graham has only been playing WR for a short time, he's incredibly raw, but you can't teach speed. His ceiling would be something of a Mike Wallace type receiver, but the risk with a raw draft choice is that he can easily turn into a bust.
  22. Yah Jenkins seemed like a mega-reach in the 1st round, many people had him rated as a 3rd round prospect. Was thrilled with the Bills draft. They basically went through and crossed off every one of their needs. Upgrade at CB - check Competition at LT - check Deep threat WR - check Depth at LB - check Depth at OT - check I'm becoming a bigger and bigger Buddy Nix fan with each passing day.
  23. Pretty good list indeed, although I'd be tempted to say Gorges was the best Dman because of his consistency throughout the season (and his blocked shots record).
