Jan. 27/28, Marlies vs IceCaps

It's a big pair of games for the IceCaps (20-16-6) this weekend as they host the Marlies (18-20-3).  Toronto is the first team in the North Division that's on the outside looking in at a playoff spot so a good showing here might help get St. John's a bit more separation on a playoff spot.  (Yes, this division is so bad this year that the IceCaps are actually in a playoff position...)

PBP guy giving it to both McCarron and Scherbak as both being out to lunch in this game.

Down 4-3 after a Scherbak "bonehead play".

Bad goal on Lindgren and quickly 5-3 (they said Lindgren has had bad home stand and couple softies in this game)

Quickly McCarron takes a slashing retaliation penalty.

3+minutes left

Matteau gets SH breakaway, but stopped.

McCarron runs a Marlie and back in penalty box...no he gets 2 and 10 and early to showers.

So it turns out Eisenschmid was back - he centered the 4th line with MacMillan sitting.

Lindgren had another subpar outing...they may have to roll with Danis a bit more for a bit as he looked exhausted at times.

Brouillette and Lernout had a tough game as a pairing - Brouillette in particular had a game to forget.

McCarron looked like he had 50 pound weights strapped to his skates.  He was a step or two slow most of the night and in the third period had one of the worst shifts I've ever seen from him.

On the better side of things, Farnham had a strong game and the embellishment penalty he got was a bit suspect.  Hanley and Johnston were a decent pairing which was a bit surprising as well.  The fourth line (Broll-Eisenschmid-Gregoire) had a few good moments but the top six was pretty quiet.

"A deathly quiet offensive surge from the IceCaps." - That's how the commentator is summing up St. John's play early on.  Ouch.

The colour guy followed up by noting that they have "Two minutes left in a root canal" when they hit two minutes left in the period.

Seconds later, Griffith makes it 1-0 Toronto.
