Ok, I am sick of all the threads that are being started because of rumors started by this Ecklund guy. 90% of his rumors are ridiculous, and have little credibitility. From now on, all disussion on Ecklund rumors will be put into this thread. If an admin finds another thread started because of an Ecklund rumor, it will be merged into this thread.

Thank you.

Hi All, this is my first post...figured it was about time. Great site.

Anyways, speaking of crazy rumors. Here's a new one.

Apparently, there's a trade that's been made between the habs and bolts......where do people get this stuff???

http://www.hockeytraderumors.com/article5541.html

Here's the actual post.

Breaking news out of Newfoundland.

It was just on CBC Radio One 640 AM here in Bonavista Newfoundland that apperently home town star Michael Ryder along with fellow Montreal Canadiens' prospect Ron Hainsey and a 2006 3rd round draft pick has been traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in exchange for Tampa Bay Centerman Brad Richards. They noted that the trade will be formally announced on Monday August 29th when Bob Gainey will speak with the media.

After they announced the trade they talked to Dan Ryder, younger brother of Michael and 2005 draft pick of the Calgary Flames. He had mixed emotions for his brother changing teams after having such a stellar rookie year in Montreal in 2003-2004. Dan Ryder went on to say that he is excited for his brother getting the opportunity to play for the defending Stanley Cup Champions and a proven winner but stated at the end of the interview that he was a little dissapointed that his brother Michael was leaving Canada but understands that it is part of the game and the business.

I think this is a win-win situation for both teams, but the Tampa Bay Lightning definetly got the better part of the deal. They had to get rid of one of their top 3 (lecavalier, stlouis, or richards)to stay under the cap. Both Lecavalier and Stlouis are under huge contracts and basically fill the cap for them, so they had to trade Richards. they couldnt have gotten anything better then this! Ryder was the top scoring rookie in the league 2 years ago, and Hainssey played excellent for the

Hamilton Bulldogs in the AHL last year.

As for the Canadiens, they may have lost Ryder and Hainssey, but hey, who wouldn`t give that up to get a great young talent like Richards. Sure Ryder had a great year last year, but who knows what he will bring in the future, he might just be a one year wonder? And even though Richards has also really had one great year, he was able to perform during the regular season, the playoffs, and even at the highest level possible with Team Canada at the 2004 World Cup!

What a line the HABS will be able to form!

Richards-Koivu-Kovalev!

and even the 2nd line wont be to shabby,

Zednik-Riberio-Dagenais

(I cant find any other sources to verify this trade at this time)

Note: WE HAVEN'T FOUND ANYTHING ON IT YET, SO FOR NOW CONSIDER THIS AS A RUMOR. THANK YOU.

Isn't Richards a centerman?

First of, please do not post rumors from other forums. Unless you hear the rumor for yourself, chances are that it's just some user looking for attention.

Secondly, Ecklund can barely be considered a source, but hockeytraderumors.com is a laughable site. Please don't post rumors from there.

Don't worry about it, we just like to have verifiable rumors before discussing them. Otherwise people start making up really crazy rumors just to stir the pot. I'm not accusing you of this, but it's happened in the past.

Welcome to HW though, you'll love it here.

Hah. When you started off the post with "the habs HAVE traded" and everything was in past tense I'm like "holy shit, I don't think this is a rumour."

It was a good trade though. Or a fair one. No habs rumours have come true all FA period so I wouldn't believe any of them.

I'm very skeptical about the rumour, but if it's true I think it would be a great trade. As much as I like Ryder, Richards is a tremendous upgrade in talent and he will be a sakic like superstar for years.

Hainsey is a bust and should be traded while other teams still think he has potential.

Great trade if it's true...Here's to hoping, if anybody could do it it's Bob.

It would be hard if they're trying to stay under a certain salary.

Also I have some new CRAZY Eklund rumours to laugh at. Look carefully and you'll see that one team in each 3-teamer gets badly ripped. In the first one, Toronto (of course) makes an amazing deal and the other teams are left 5 steps behind. Look at what NJ's trading and receiving in the second one:)

To Toronto: Luongo + Boumeester & Brad Richards

To Florida: Sundin + 1st Round Pick

To Tampa: Belfour +3rd Round Pick

Hey I know its stupid but don’t shoot the messenger.

And yet again, another three way trade this time involving Florida, New Jersey and Vancouver

To Florida: Jovanovski and Cloutier (or possibly Bertuzzi), Langenbrunner, and Friesen

To Vancouver: Vancouver would end up with Luongo and Brylin

To New Jersey: Three high draft picks

Hockey-leaks has that posted as well.

Few interesting rumours involving Montreal I want to talk about. First, Jose Theodore wants a long term deal that could cost Montreal some money. This could add to the Theodore for Luongo rumours. The second rumour is a blockbuster. According to a CBC radio station out of Newfoundland, Tampa Bay has traded Brad Richards to Montreal in exchange for Micheal Ryder, Ron Hainsey and a 3rd Round Pick in 2006. The deal is expected to be announced Monday. Right now this is just a rumour, hopefully we will find more on it for tonights update, as well as the Toronto/Detroit rumoured trade. I have also learned that Ryan Smyth will not be traded.

I consider it just a rumour but damn would it be nice. Tampa needs to make some cap room so it is atleast possible.

Well those (besides Ryan Smyth) have all been posted already. As for the Tampa trade it would really help the Habs. I'm not sure if it will happen. Normally I would deny any rumour but this one is reported as already done and a certainty so I have some hope.

(By the way, I'll advertise my quiz in the Lounger right now.)

Richards is a center which would be a problem, though. But he has that great streak that whenever he scored the game was won by Tampa, last year, which I've never seen before, especially not from someone with about 40 goals in the season.

Richards has also had some experience playing on the LW last year and at some National events, so there's some room to play with for both Julien and Gainey if he wanted to make a subsequent deal.

If true, you just cannot pass up an opportunity to get a player like Richards. As far as I'm concerned he is by a mile the best of the 3 TB stars.

This is absolutely unreal!

Don't get me wrong...I'd love to see Richards in a habs uni for the rest of his career; but to imply that a deal of this magnetude would/could be kept under wraps for 2 full days without a leak is lunacy. Even if Gainey did want to put off the announcement it would be well beyond his powers to control the various ways that such things leak out to the media. Especially in hockey crazed town like Montreal.

Well, being from Newfoundland and Labrador, I must say that this is the biggest RUMOUR I've heard in some time. No way that this is true. The Media would be all over Gainey immediately if they thought for a second that this could be true. I love Richards, but he's not coming to Montreal. Ryder will be signed before too long. He has enjoyed his year in Montreal. I should not have even commented on this post, but I guess the curriosity got the best of me...ha!

I don't know about his credibility at all, but a guy with a blog at www.hockeyleaks.com, reported that Richards to MTL is a good posibility and at this point he said it was a70% chance of happening. Eklund has now also got on this rumour giving it one of his infamous (e3) ratings.

Like i said I don't know what that means in terms of reliability, but i thought i'd say it anyways and like I said before, I like Ryder but I don't think any GM can pass up the opportunity of adding a guy like RIchards to their team and that includes Gainey.

Eklund is actually making sense here!:

The Richards Rumor

I have removed the Richards trade rumor from the blog after much speculation to its validity. I was very slow to post this at all yesterday even thought many, many folks emailed me with the rumor throughout the day..I did not believe the rumor at all at first. It wasn't until I got home from Atlantic City last night that I talked to two sources who verified there was something to it. They verified the fact that Tampa and Montreal had had discussions regarding Richards...However did not know the names. I am now going to spend a lot of time today seeing if the names are similar to the rumor that is out there..According to a source regarding this rumor, "This rumour got started on Hockeytraderumors.com, claiming CBC Radio 640 AM in Bonavista was reporting Michael Ryder's brother was claiming this trade was about to go down. Two problems with this. First, CBC employees have been locked out by management across Canada for over two weeks now, leading to little news coverage, let alone sports news coverage. Second, CBC Radio isn't heard on 640 AM in Bonavista, but 750 AM."

This is an interesting case where someone may have invented a rumor from thin air, and stumbled on a player, Richards, and a team, Montreal, that is indeed being thrown around..I will get to the bottom of it...

Yep. Richards is underrated as hell. Prolly he most underrated player in the league.

One of the big 3 in Tampa will be traded by Christmas, and I have a feeling it's Richards.

That rumour sounds too good to be true so chances are it's not.

I really like Ryder but I'd give him up in a second for Richards. Tampa needs another blueliner and Hainsey could be the answer.

However, Eklund is full of crap most of the time. I doubt it's true.

*lol* This new blog post only shows how much credibility Eklund has - none. He's just posting crap rumours from other sites and give them an Eklund E1, 2 or something like that. Everybody can do this - poor guy. :eyes:

But atleast he was able to confrim that Gainey's talking to Tampa about Richards.

It makes it more credible than just a statement by hockeytraderumors. Also, I found it strange that Dan Ryder was not quoted once in the whole article. It's because he never said anything, they made it up.

Yea, he wrote that he got a confirmation but from who? His wife, the pizza boy, Alf, Yoda? Everybody can confirm something without posting a reliable source. ;)

[Edited on 28-8-05 by HABS Fan Nr.1]

"from reliable sources of the Montreal and Tampa Bay franchises" or somehting along those lines. Maybe the Lightning Pizza Boy?

Why would he say they're talking about it if they're not? To get us excited? All he has to do is say nothing. People are already excited after hearing the rumour. Once it's already out there, there's no point of backing it up unless he thinks it has a chance. He doesn't want his reputation to be that he gets one out of every 50 rumours right. He wants to be right.
