habs rule
Chicago have Yannick Perrault working as their face off coach. I don't see why we couldn't bring back Malholtra as a face off coach. When he came here our face off stats were not good except for maybe Pleckanic, the day Manny arrived our face off stats shot up. His career is pretty well shot, so maybe he could help Galchenyuk become that center we would like to see him become. The team went from 18th in the league to 4th. They went from 49% to 51%. Face offs are important, he could help us. just a thought.
dlbalr
There's much more to Perreault's position than strictly helping with faceoffs. He's actually a player development coach which is what Rob Ramage is currently for the Habs. A player development coach travels to the various junior/college teams to work with the prospects and actually doesn't spend much time with the NHL team aside from in September when the prospects are there at the same time. Faceoff specialists are often brought in for NHL training camps only - that's when Perreault worked with Chicago's NHL'ers. I believe in the past the Canadiens have brought someone in to work on faceoffs at some training camps, If Malhotra wants to help out at camp, that's fine, though I suspect it may be as a player-coach as he showed not long ago he's willing to take a minor league deal and wait for an NHL shot. habs rule
Your research is much better than mine Brian as usual. I took the face off coach thing from a Black hawk blogger. But that being said I think he could help, he is great at face offs and is very good defensively. He knows the blender, sorry, system. He also know the players, maybe potential player / coach would work.
The Chicoutimi Cucumber
Manny is very definitely an outstanding locker-room presence and an exemplary leader. (I still remember the impact he had on the '11 Canucks, and how they suffered for losing him to injury). He will have a career in hockey once he hangs 'em up, I'm pretty sure. Whether it will be with us is a different question. We seem to need help with coaching on the farm - that might be a place to break him in. Keeping in mind that he is actually bilingual and has a francophone wife, he would be one of the rare few to have a shot at becoming head coach of the Habs in the event that his AHL coaching works out. So if I were advising Bergy, and assuming Manny to be interested in coaching, I would strongly encourage him to keep Malholtra around in some capacity. Well I did not know all that, but I agree that if we keep him around, it will be a good thing.
DON
For some reason always thought Hal Gill would make a good d-coach, but never thought of Malhotra the same.

Hal Gill wouldn't work with Le Genius. There is a little bad blood between them.

habs rule
Nah he is relaxing at home enjoying the retired life, or something like that. For such a big guy he sure couldn't fight, not that I am about to challenge him or anything.
