  1. I turned away my myself when the birds were pecking at the dead bodies. I changed the title to include the spoiler warning. If we don't put it, people read things by accident. If the spoiler warning is there, only people with weak self-control will go looking for what happens
  2. I was kinda disappointed in the movie. I tried as hard as could to not have huge expectations for it, but I think I failed. I think the plot was overly complicated. I had to keep reminding myself about who wanted what and why they wanted it. Did the whole incident on the native island have anything to do with the movie or was it just there to be funny? Did the mark on Jack's hand reappear because of a subconscious decision he made or because the 3 days was up? Just a lot of little things like that that bugged me throughout the movie. I loved the ending, though it scares me. If Jack is inside the beast, that probably means his role isn't going to be very big in the 3rd installment. Jack Sparrow IS Pirates of the Carribean. A movie with only a minor role can't bode well in my opinion. A good cliffhanger, though with TV, you only have to wait 3-4 months, not 9. Very enjoyable movie, but not as kid friendly as the first and a bit complicated for kids, at least in my opinion. The last one was PG-13 also, but it was still fine for kids. This one, I'm not sure if I'd take a 10 or 11 year old, which is how old my cousin is who is in town for the week.
  3. What a huge jackass Zidane is. Makes me even happier that Italy won.
  4. Geez, back when I was standing up for him nobody came to my aid to defend him against the haters. Now I find out you've all been holding out on me!
  5. An old rumor drudged up perhaps? Last time the rumor was Lang for Zedink, reason being the Wings were happy with Williams and Datsyuk enough that they would move Lang for some help at wing. Personally, I'd love Lang. He had amazing chemistry with Kovalev that year.
  6. That comment was not directed at you. There is no way to know how old people on the site are. It doesn't seem like any members are kids, but who knows? There's also no way to tell how many guests and members who don't post are kids who just like the Habs. Amen to that. Hollywood starlets need to stop trying to look like Barbie. They don't seem to understand that men don't find stick-figures with breasts attractive. Lindsay Lohan was gorgeous before she lost weight. Nicole Ritchie was somewhat attractive before she became a stick. And based on pictures I saw of Jessica Alba the other day, she is on her way to disappearing also. Also amen to the comment about A Clockwork Orange. That is the strangest movie I have ever seen. What was the point except to be really, really strange? I felt dumberer after watching that movie.
  7. I'm not trying to blame TV and movies for the current state of society. I've always found people who do so to be ridiculous. At the same time, I think it plays a role for people who do not have a solid upbringing and a lot of our society encourages people to not take responsibility for their own actions. But just because I don't think that television and movies are ruining society, as some of you seem to think I am, that doesn't excuse putting crap on television. I guess I haven't made my position clear, because I in no way want to blame TV for people's problems. I just think it adds to them. And you are 100% right about the "sue whoever wronged us." comment. It's freaking out of control. I read about a guy who was sneaking around in someone's garage when the door was shut and they were trapped for a few days. The burglar sued and won a case for unlawful imprisonment. I also read about a woman who broke her leg in a store and won a lawsuit against the store. Thing is, she broke her leg when she tripped over her 4 year kid. Freaking asinine. Not all HW members are adults. Kids who read the site shouldn't learn how to curse from hockey fans on a message board. There is that, but that isn't what makes it trash. I kinda liked the classic wrestling in the days of Hulk Hogan when he was in his prime. What gets me is how trashy the shows are. Kissing people on the ass on television. Bra and panty matches. (Though hot, especially Stacy Keibler, they have no business being on a show whose audience is probably half kids) Subverse storylines. Rubbing a fat guy's ass in someone's face. The list goes on. Wrestling was popular when it was about the fake wrestling and the simple fueds. Vince McMahon took a decent thing and turned it into trash.
  8. Very true. In terms of TV and movies though, it is those people who are running the shows and calling the shots, trying to make as much money as possible, no matter the cost. I'm quite torn in this whole argument. I've never been a fan of the "violence on television cause violence in real life," but I think some kids do learn from television when they lack real-life role models. In the ideal situation, television wouldn't make a difference in a child's development. The problem is that many children do not grow up in ideal situations. Whether television and movies play a vital role in children without role models, I can't say.
  9. The WWE is some of the worst trash on television.
  10. As often as they play Columbus, so once every 3 years. Once every 6 years at home and once every 6 years on the road. I HATE THIS SCHEDULE. Seriously, it's hell knowing my team only comes to town once every six years.
  11. I agree with you, to an extent. If a kid has decent parents, what is on TV won't matter because the parents will moniter what their kids are watching. The problem lies with families who have both parents working who don't have time to really raise their own kids. So many kids today grow up in day care. Then when they are home with their parents, their parents are too tired to do anything to set a good example. I think a lot of parents give kids too much freedom. There is no reason a kid 14 years old and youunger should have a TV in their room, allowing them to watch whatever they want un-monitored. I'm in the same boat as jets, my parents did a damn fine job raising me. As I said, the problem lies with families and broken families, where kids grow up in front of a TV instead of out playing and learning about life first hand. By kids I mean 14 and younger. And geesh, I was 17 before I started staying up past 10 PM on school nights. Check out Scrubs. I wouldn't want to watch it with my parents, but an awesome show. NBC keeps screwing it over though, only running it as a mid-season replacement the last couple years. It's fairly unique as far as sit-coms go. They only use one camera and no laugh track. I'll agree with you on 24 and Lost, can't say about Prison Break. Among my other favorites are NCIS, Scrubs, The Unit, CSI, and Monk.
  12. Though you said it poorly, I agree with the concept. I mentioned above that there is a lot of violence on TV. I've been known to cringe when watching CSI and NCIS. And 24 obviously is full of it. If it were up to me, these shows would be on during the 10 PM hour, after kids have gone to bed. And again, it's not like the popularity of violence is a new thing. There have been slasher films for years. And if you ask me, sex on TV is worse than violence. With the violence on TV, at least it is for a reason. The good guys get the bad guys who want to kill everyone. The murderer gets caught and goes to jail. That doesn't exactly tell me that it is okay to go around shooting people. With all of the out-of-wedlock sex that is on TV, including many shows aimed at teens, the shows rarely show the consequences. How many shows have characters get an STD? Sometimes the girl gets pregnant, but they tend not to show how tough it is for a young, single mother to raise a child.
  13. I am quite familiar with the PTC and while I disagree with a lot of their criticisms (i.e. saying Star Trek: Enterprise was too sexy), I fully support their efforts. There is a ton of smut on television. Drugs, sex, alcohol, and violence dominate primetime. This is not realistic at all. The majority of people do not act like that. They say they are just reflecting the viewership, which is a load of bull. It's just an excuse to get smut on the air. While I Love Lucy is outdated, television would be better if there were more family oriented shows. I can't imagine watching a lot of the shows I watch with children. The American family is in sad shape, and too many television shows make it seem like disfunctional families should be accepted as the norm. The Simpsons are seen as a normal family and that is a load of crap. As for "stupid comedy," that has been a staple of comedy for ages. It is nothing new. The Three Stooges is a perfect example. Any Adam Sandler or Jim Carey movie. All of the National Lampoon movies. While I am not a big fan of this type of comedy, I understand the popularity. Similar to dirty jokes, they appeal to people's viceral side. As for Frasier, of course it was high-brow and kinda gay. I mean, the show revolved around two brothers who hung out all the time together, were wealthy, and acted wealthy. Still, I assure you many people who called the show gay were at home watching it. Shows don't last 11 years on the air if nobody is watching.
  14. #1. I Love Lucy was in THE FREAKING 50s! Seriously, you think that is what Americans point to as the paramount of comedy? While the show was good and very enjoyable, there is little market for old comedies such as I Love Lucy. Nick at Nite is all but gone and older comedies only play in the mornings. #2. Monty Python is a BRITISH comedy! If you want to bash the US, at least bash it for something American, lol. I've watched many episodes of the The Flying Circus, and didn't find most of them to be very funny. Quest for the Holy Grail is a hilarious movie, though. #3. SNL has been terrible for years. I'll agree with you there. It has nothing to do, however, with censors. The show was clever and hilarious for over 20 years. #4. If you ask Americans what their favorite comedy is, they will most likely say Friends, Everybody Loves Raymond, or Seinfeld. I've never watched Freinds, but Raymond and Seinfeld certainly were not based on fart jokes. Also up there is Frasier, a very smart comedy that also is nowhere near fart jokes. Another popular comedy was Whose Line is it Anyway. Again, maybe the only the occasional fart joke, but for the most part, good clean humor. #5. Please explain how you've come to be a connoisseur of world comedy. Living in the states, you have access to maybe a Spanish language channel and the BBC. Though I don't speak Spanish, everything I've seen on the Spanish channel looks like the acting is soap-opera level. Either way, you have access to maybe 2 sources of international comedy. #6. As an American who actually likes my country, fart jokes are only rarely funny.
  15. Was gone over the weekend, so I missed the thread, but I wish everyone a belated Happy Canada Day. I wish the US did something cool on a holiday like begin the UFA season. Maybe make the trade deadline July 4th or something. Though, I suppose getting traded on a holiday would be a real downer. Right now the biggest "sporting event" on July 4th is a hot dog eating contest. Kobayashi almost lost!
  16. Maybe half a dozen regular posters.
  17. Happy Fourth of July! Especially to the brave members of Ohio's own Lima Company, USMC. Pat Ryan, SC '02
  18. It was from Game 3 of that Boston series. I don't recall the circumstances leading to him being on the ice, but he was down on the ice writhing in pain for a few minutes, and as soon as he got to the bench he was laughing it up.
  19. Funny how many people have come to support Ribeiro now that it appears we are stuck with him for another season. I couldn't smell a Ribeiro supporter for 100 miles when everyone thought we were going to get a FA to replace him.
  20. Carter is a winger, Henrik Sedin centered the line. I think his production was more a case of the Sedins fulfilling their potential and taking him along for the ride. As for Ribs, I suppose he gets another shot with the Habs. I sincerely hope he puts up a solid season and makes us all sound like idiots.
  21. Perhaps because of his reputation as an attitude problem inclines me to think the quotes are true, and he recanted because he knew what he said was stupid and didn't want to admit it. Before the 2003-04 season, I was a big supporter of giving Ribs his last shot at the NHL and was pleased with his season. He disappeared in the playoffs, but I fel confident we had a 2nd line center for the long haul. I envisioned a line of Kosty-Ribs-Ryder for the next 10 years. This season, however, changed my mind. He had a terrible season and again was invisible in the playoffs, making it twice that he did nothing when it really matters. Watching the playoff games, I don't see the creativity people say he has. I saw very little effort out of him. That is not a type of player that plays the #2 center on a winning team.
  22. The fight with Koivu was the season before the lockout. The comment about Koivu's leadership came after the Olympics, when he said something to the effect of "Too bad Saku uses all his leadership while playing for Finland. http://forums.habsworld.net/index.php?showtopic=5781 And the comment about blaming other for his lack of points came midseason, where he said something to the effect of "I'd have more assists if Ryder finished more of my passes." Couldn't find it offhand, and I don't want to waste my time by looking for it.
  23. Sorry, but picking fights with the captain, calling out the captain's obvious leadership, and blaming others for his poor season don't exactly point to him growing up recently.
