  1. I can't believe that nobody has suggested Markov?!?! This guy, if he is resigned, will have been on the team for a long time and is probably one of the most important players on the team. Not to mention the fact that he often plays more minutes than any other player on the team, so he would logically be most available to talk to the refs.
  2. Shit...if Mike Johnson's wife and kids like it here, anyone's family will. They are Torontonians through and through. He said recently that if his family had a vote, he would be staying in montreal.
  3. Everything I hear about Angelo reminds me of what I used to hear about Ribs. Young Montrealer with tons of talent. The BEST possible place for this kid to develop will be as FAR from montreal as possible. Put this "potential superstar" from montreal in our hockey crazy town and not only will he develop an attitude, he will get a serious case of the St-Catherines crotch-rot All I am saying is Id rather go for the 6'3", 207 lb Akim Aliu (the guy who refused to submit to hazing in his first season with sudbury and got in a fight with "superstar" Downie) This kid as size, talent and most importantly...INTEGRITY. He wont be ready to go this season, but a couple of seasons in Hamilton and this kid will do great things.
  4. Sorry, but this has nothing to do with the playoffs. This was not a great system, and even if we HAD made the playoff we would not go far because Carbo played the end of the season like a long training camp. He didn't leave any lines intact this year. Im not saying that he didn't do certain things right as well, but this was a serious flaw. It is one thing to change up lines early in a season, but if you are doing in that late, you have to face the fact that either you are terribly impatient (because no line cliks after only one period), or you are SERIOUSLY lacking in talent.
  5. Let Souray go, sign Smyth at all costs (assuming he hasn't decided to stay in NYI). We want to keep Souray for a) PP Scoring, b- Leadership, c) Grit, d) experience Here is what Smyth brings: a) He may not break any PP scoring records, but he will go to the net and bang in tons of goals...and guess what, he will even be more defensively responsible than Souray!! b- LEADERSHIP!! This guy single-handedly made the Oilers a cup-contender. He left, Oilers go on the worst losing streak in their history! c) Do I need to talk about this guy's grit? d) Same goes for experience...need I say anything? Who would bring more to the habs? Sheldon or Ryan...gime a break, I like Souray but facts are facts!
  6. I was (and still am...to a point) a supporter of Carbo. I was so excited to have this guy come back to coach the Habs because few players in the history of the game have understood it as well as he has. That being said, I was shocked at the following 2 realizations: 1) Inflexibility: A good coach doesn't come to a new team and impose a strict doctrine of style. Carbo should have done what a good coach would have done, assess the players he had and adapted a system to their talents. He, Gainey and a consultant must sit down and redesign the system for next year (based on current players and new aquisitions). 2) Lack of Patience: how can you succeed when you play 30 line combinations a night. Chemistry takes time, stick with what you've got and let it happen.
  7. Good point...I dont like our chances against NJ and Marty. But as u said, better play NJ than end up 9th watching the leafs from the golf course.
  8. What to say that hasn't been said already...They have been offered many things to bring a full 60 minutes of effort to their games: Money, Fame, Women...Men. None have worked on a consistent basis, lets try... I will sacrifice 30 virgins and several goats if the Habs win tonight...Hows that?
  9. Same here, I live in Ottawa and usually watch the games on RDS. I understand french perfectly but will take any opportunity to watch them A- in english and B- in HD. Nothing against the french personally, but the RDS Habs bias can take away from a game just as much as the CBC/TSN Leafs Bias. I too enjoyed the broadcasters lockout, either make your commentary unbiased or don't say anythign at all. The only thing I like about RDS.... "LE TIR ET LE BUUUUUUUUUUT!!" That never gets old
  10. AWESOME suggestions...the slingbox is sooo cool. Thanks all!
  11. He's my personal hero...Im not kidding, he has been for a while. He is a great player, a wonderful person and a stand up Montrealer. Despite his lack of points etc, I TRULY hope we see number 11 hanging from the rafters one day...he has been one of the most special players/captains in Habs history. I see him retiring with the Habs and playing the role of Brind'amour for the habs in their next finals appearance.
  12. I say give the kid a chance on the first line and play streight instead on Niinni, but I ain't the coach
  13. Although math isn't my strong suit... I think we should be cheering for the Isles for the 2 following reasons: 1) Isles will be tougher against the Laffs on thursday 2) NYR losing leaves 6th place more attainable...we need to be able tor each 6th cuz if we miss and end up 7th like last season, we will be pitted against the Devils....and we WILL lose.
  14. I will be moving to Guildford (30 mins from London) in the UK in August. What is the best possible option for getting to see that habs play while im over there? Should I spend the money on NASN? Is there something better? Should I just invest in a kickass internet connection and listen to them online? Does anyone stream games online now? LOL, I must be crazy, I am moving to another country and I am more worried about losing Hockey than finding a place to live
  15. I guess this is good news for the NHL... I am moving to the UK in August and just tried to buy tix for the LA vs Anaheim game that the NHL is setting up in London...all the good seats are sold out
  16. I remember that last season we were only supposed to make 8th place, but some others around us collapsed at the right time and we made 7th. That unfortunately pitted us against the Hurricanes (a team we had lost all 4 games to) and despite a great initial effort, we were unable to sove once again. All I am saying is if the top 3 stay as they are, I would PRAY that we either make 6th or stay at 8th. I do not like our chances against Marty and the NJ crew.
  17. Nice responces everyone...here is an updated look: 1 x - BUFFALO* 78 50 21 7 107 2 x - NEW JERSEY* 79 47 24 8 102 3 x - ATLANTA* 79 41 27 11 93 4 x - OTTAWA 79 47 24 8 102 5 x - PITTSBURGH 79 45 23 11 101 6 NY RANGERS 79 41 29 9 91 7 TAMPA BAY 79 43 32 4 90 8 MONTREAL 79 41 32 6 88 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 9 TORONTO 79 38 30 11 87 10 CAROLINA 79 39 32 8 86 11 NY ISLANDERS 78 36 30 12 84 12 FLORIDA 79 34 30 15 83 13 BOSTON 79 35 38 6 76 14 WASHINGTON 79 26 39 14 66 15 PHILADELPHIA 78 21 46 11 53 As it stands right now, the highest position possible for the Habs is 6th place (the lowest is 12th). This would make our possible first round opponents: - Buffalo - NJ - Atlanta - Tampa Bay - Pitts - Ottawa I stand by my original opinion that the Habs would do well versus the inexperienced Penguins as my first choice. Especially considering that Maxim Afinogenov and Tim Connolly are coming soon to a Buffalo squad near you. Here are my choices in order of preference: 1) Atlanta 2) Tampa 3) Pitts 4) Buffalo 5) Ottawa 6) NJ Looking at trends, it is most likely that the habs will face Buffalo int he first round, second most likely would be Habs vs NJ then Habs vs Pitts.
  18. Atlanta....really? I though that they have owned us this season?
  19. Eastern Conference RK GP W L OT PTS 1 x - BUFFALO* 76 49 20 7 105 2 x - PITTSBURGH* 78 45 23 10 100 3 ATLANTA* 78 40 27 11 91 4 x - NEW JERSEY 77 45 24 8 98 5 x - OTTAWA 77 45 24 8 98 6 NY RANGERS 77 39 29 9 87 7 TAMPA BAY 77 41 32 4 86 8 MONTREAL 77 40 31 6 86 ----------------------------------------------------- 9 TORONTO 77 37 29 11 85 10 NY ISLANDERS 76 36 28 12 84 11 CAROLINA 77 38 31 8 84 12 FLORIDA 77 33 30 14 80 13 BOSTON 77 35 36 6 76 14 WASHINGTON 77 26 38 13 65 15 PHILADELPHIA 76 21 44 11 53 These are the standing as of today. Habs have the potential to either miss the playoff completely or go as high as 6th place. Personally, I would love it if the Habs played the penguins in the first round because their lack of playoff experience would make them vulnerable. Buffalo would be a good second choice because the Habs have played them well this year (although I think they wuld step it up in the postseason. What do you think?
  20. For Next Season: Kost - Briere - Ovechkin Kost: The guy fromour system Briere: Free agent this summer Ovechkin: Tired of carrying the Capidulls and comes to play with his hero Markov Morkov - Chelios Markov: Our man Chelios: Wants to finish his career with the best team he ever played with. Luongo: Comes home...
  21. Though I doubt anyone anyone will trade for Sammy, it is likely that he will be either a) bought out, or B) sent to minors (in the hopes that he voids his contract and goes back to Russia). Needless to say, I am EXTREMELY happy with AK46 as his replacement. Nice to see a player take the puck and skate TOWARDS the offensive zone, as opposed to Sammy's style of zigzagging and constantly retreating to the D-zone.
  22. I was excited about the prospect of Niinni coming to Montreal at the beginning of the season. But he just hasn't played well until recently. It's kinda like letting a child molestor out on probation and since he has one good week without molesting children, you make him an elementary school teacher. I don't think this guy is worth the risk, ESPECIALLY considering the fact that we have good d-men in the system waiting for a chance (especially in Russia).
