  1. I didn't see the game, what are your guys thoughts on tinordi?
  2. I guess to complete the ex habs rebuild we should expect Gionta to Anaheim for Koivu and a 3rd? Or maybe Kaberle to Toronto for Komisarek and a 3rd? But seriously I'm not sure about this trade and will reserve judgement till I see what we get with our extra cap space. What I'd really like us to get is a big nasty winger along the lines of Lucic but I guess so would most if the league.
  3. I'm kind of stunned that people are talking of trading Markov. After everything this guy has been through, his first full season back and people want to move him. The guy is a top 10 defenceman in the league which is not something we have been overendowed with over the last decade (or more) What about being a classy organisation and looking after our players? Everyone says we should build a team like Detroit, well you didn't see them trading Lidstrom and look at the loyalty he gave them both in sticking with the club and taking a home town discount. I for one would like to see Markov here until he decides to retire, as stated earlier his game is not built around speed and I think he would be an excellent player and mentor for a few years yet. PS: This does not mean I don't support building a team through trades, just I don't think Markov should be traded
  4. Grigorenko - Galchenyuk could be an interesting matchup too
  5. Point two is a dire reflection on previous management - that we have 2 guys in need of a buyout is bad enough, three is a damning statement on Bob/Goat
  6. What about putting Eller at centre and move DD to the wing? Maybe play that line as second line and move plex line to 1st line. Lots have people have talked about trying DD on the wing and giving Eller more minutes on a good line. Maybe we can kill two birds with one stone. Or is this too risky?
  7. I kind of like what white did as well. I say kind of in that I don't want us to become a bully team like the flyers, but I do like the attitude of sticking up more for team mates. After all, most of us have been complaining about the team showing no grit, well that was some grit. I'd like to ask you guys a question, if Deharnais dosnt step up in the next couple of games, how about trying Eller on the top line? Sink or swim kind of thing.
  8. I don't know about biggest surprise, but I think Emelin will take another leap forward and be a real blue line beast this year.
  9. Yeah, sorry to harp on about deregistering lol. Don't know why thats sticking in my mind. However, the main point of my question was could someone else step in now and sign the players to a rival league? I guess from your reply that the answer is yes. The reason I asked, was that about 10 years ago, the Australian Rugby League (pro rugby league competition) tried to implement a salary cap, and much like the NHL ended up locking players out. Rupert Murdoch (media baron) then started a rival league (superleague) and started signing players. This caused immediate panic in the ARL who scrapped the salary cap and tried to sign players too. The result was two separate leagues for about 3 years before they eventually merged and ironically enough implemented a salary cap to curb the rampant salaries inflated by the league war. I think that the NHL CBA system is flawed and it is almost inevitable that there will be some form of stoppage at the end of each CBA term. With such a toxic system in place I would have thought that a rival league was a possability and was really just wondering what you guys thought about that, being that you are mainly in North America and are better informed whereas I am here on the edge of the hockey world in New Zealand. I could probably chip in $10 to start the new league lol
  10. This is a left field question, but could someone setup a league in North America? For example, what is to stop the NHLPA deregistering (I think the nflpa did that) and setup their own league? I'm not sure who owns arenas etc, but is this scenario possible? (null)
  11. Don't mean to be picky commandant, but couldn't the player deregister from the NHLPA? (null)
  12. If players salaries/contracts are reduced, as the owners want, I would have thought there would be a good argument from the players that the contract is invalid. I.e. not the same as what they signed. I'm no lawyer though so most likely wrong lol. (null)
  13. Good article. Although not suggesting he's hall of fame material, or in the same class as Koivu, another of my favorite ex habs we may have seen the last of is Sheldon Souray. I for one, would miss him. (null)
  14. Thanks for all the replies. Got the dog yesterday and have gone with Rocket. Rest of the family (kids) struggled with Belivieu and Saku etc so went with safe option. Also dog is a girl so names like Harvey etc didn't work so well. Again, thanks for the replies and hopefully provided some distraction from pending lockout. (null)
  15. Thanks for all the replies. (not keen on Avery or Ott thanks Joe) Rocket still in the mix, but I also like Saku, Beliveau and Flower, although maybe French version of flower, is it Fleur in french? (null)
  16. I've just got a new dog (a female, golden retriever) and am looking for a HAB's related name. At the moment the best I've come up with is "Rocket" which I quite like, but there are probably a million other dogs called Rocket in the world. As its pretty quite on here at the moment, I thought you guys could help with a name. Thanks in advance, and apologies to anyone who thought we were trading for a dog lol. PS: I don't like Youpi as a name. PPS: Sorry if anyone thinks this is a waste of time, if you are one of those, please feel free to discuss the CBA and the length of the lockout.
  17. I agree, although a shortened season may not help the 20-30 point target, but what I really hope is that he steps up defensively and becomes a nasty crease clearing d. (null)
  18. I think Emelin will quietly step up and be Montreal's defensive rock. Subban will get all the press, but I think Emelin will be the defensive stud. We know he can hit, but this year would hope to see him playing more physical and really clearing the front of the net. My pick is that he will be first on Carey Price's Christmas Card list. (null)
  19. The worst thing with those types of deals is it sets the value for those types of players. Then big market teams have to pay more for average players, pushing both the cap floor and ceiling higher. It's a vicious circle, which I hope is broken during CBA negotiations. (null)
  20. I agree with what you say, but the main problem is in the NHL there always seem to be GM's throwing stupid money around (I'm looking at you Carolina) When guys like Subban see someone like Skinner getting big money and term in Carolina they want the same (human nature). Throw in teams like Philly handing out offer sheets and it is easy to see how it is a bit more complicated than the scenario you outlined in your management experience. (I'm assuming you haven't been managing NBA, or NFL players for the last dozen years lol) In short, I think the biggest problem is that if the HAB's don't keep him happy, you can be sure there are other GM's out there who will. I'm not saying we should drop our pants on this at all, just that I don't think its as easy as managing people in more conventional environments.
  21. Wow. Impressive collection. Do you wear them? Or are they for show? Also, out of curiosity, do you like all of those teams or just the players? Must be the only leafs/habs supporter on the planet lol. (null)
  22. At the risk of flogging a dead horse, and because theres not much else to talk about, if Markov returned to something like his old form, do you think the oilers would consider this trade at the deadline? (null)
  23. It's a risk for sure, but they are putting a lot of trust in Schultz to be their top guy considering he hasn't played in NHL yet. Who better to tutor him than Markov? From our point of view we would sacrifice this season in the hope our young D develop as planned and Yakupov turns into an 80 point guy. Risk and reward for both sides. (null)
  24. Ok. Tend to agree with what you are saying. To play devils advocate a little, would you trade Markov for Yakupov? (null)
  25. You're right and I agree with what you say. The only thing is, as you say we have lots of D in the pipeline and not many forwards. If we aren't going to contend this year and if negotiations aren't going as smoothly as we hope, it may be worth considering sacrificing playoffs this year for a run at the cup in 2-3 years. (null)
