  1. It happens. I'm not sure how much I like the Dach trade. He's young with a couple of season under his belt, but I'm not sure he';s worth what was given up for him. I hope I eat my words.
  2. I thought for sure one of those trades was for the 4th.
  3. As much as I would love to see the Habs still net Wright, look at the cost of the 7th pick. I'm not sure anything that doesn't involve Suzuki or Caufield will get any of those picks.
  4. So instead of a Bergeron, they picked a Pacioretty. Guess this means they are in on Dubois.
  5. Actually the report is a late 2nd or a 3rd round. No player as a sweetener required.
  6. Puljujarvi is reported to be cheap, about a 2nd/3rd round pick.
  7. I think the 7th was the best chance for Montreal to get another pick in the top-10.
  8. Darren Dreger reported the trade that Murray nixed would have icluded; To Buffalo Murray (with retained salary) Ottawa’s 7th To Ottawa Buffalo’s 16th picK
  9. Read that Arizona is open to trading the 3rd pick. It doesn’t make sense to me as to why, but it’s out there. I would keep an eye on Edmonton with Puljujarvi, Kassian and Barrie. They want to dump cap, so picks or prospects would be great for them.
  10. Letang re-signed with Pittsburgh, so at least all the rumours of Montreal chasing him in free agency is over. Matt Murray refused to waive his NTC to goto Buffalo. Ottawa and Buffalo had a trade worked out. I really can’t say I blame him for not wanting to goto Buffalo.
  11. Montreal and Ottawa are talking. Ottawa is interested in Anderson and Dvorak. You would have to assume it would involve Ottawa’s 7th overall pick. https://montrealhockeynow.com/2022/07/06/nhl-source-ottawa-senators-interested-in-canadiens-anderson-dvorak/ TSN is reporting Chychrun may be in play. Dreger linking him to New Jersey’s 2nd or Ottawa’s 7th, saying Senators less likely because of their LD.
  12. I think it’s more about the stigma for offer sheets that will deter Hughes. Although it is Toronto, but it will have a ripple effect on the rest of the league. You’ve gotta think that other teams have considered it as well.
  13. I doubt New Jersey will make that trade without one of Suzuki or Caufield being involved.
  14. Dorion said on TSN radio it is 50/50 if the Senators trade the 7th overall pick.
  15. It appears as if Philadelphia doesn’t want to move the 5th overall pick, but Ottawa is willing to move the 7th overall pick. So in the top-10, only New Jersey and Ottawa have been vocal about moving their picks. https://chicago.suntimes.com/blackhawks/2022/7/5/23195846/blackhawks-trade-rumors-dylan-strome-dominik-kubalik-restricted-free-agents-alex-debrincat https://ottawasun.com/sports/hockey/nhl/ottawa-senators/snapshots-pre-draft-trade-talk-includes-names-like-alex-debrincat-seth-jones-and-matt-murray
  16. It doesn’t mean that, it’s just an option. White is a downgrade on Dvorak, but Dvorak will fetch assets and White will help with tanking next year. White could also be a placeholder for Wright. He can eat 2nd line minutes until Wright is ready to move up. If Wright doesn’t pan out in the NHL next season, White can still eat minutes.
  17. Senators are waiving Colin White for purpose of a buyout. Glad that doesn’t mean Habs are trading for him. It does make you think that the Habs could sign him cheap and trade Dvorak.
  18. I believe size is more important as a defenceman than any other position. It’s not saying he’s not a good defenceman, it’s saying he needs to be paired with someone with size to offset how much forwards will push him around. I don’t believe a 5’9 defenceman would be able run a defensive pairing, as opposed to the same skill set in a bigger frame.
  19. Pierre LeBrun reporting Montreal and New Jersey are in talks to swap picks. New Jersey wants Slafkovsky and are set at center. New Jersey believes Montreal will pick his 1st if the picks aren’t swapped. The hold up is Montreal is looking for a better deal from New Jersey. Thursday is going to be interesting.
  20. I would normally agree with the 1st pick producing a sure fire NHL player, but in recent memory Yakupov leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. Even thought Ryan Murray wasn’t anything special either, so that was the top 2 picks in that draft.
  21. That same article said Slafkovsky is the best chance of becoming a 1st line player. With every draft there’s risk. The fact the Wright was granted exceptional status in the CHL and has produced well, while developing a solid defensive game as a center, should be a strong indication that he will be a 1st line forward unless he decides to channel his inner Yakupov. I will point out there are never guarantees with any draft.
