  1. Or actually use Campbell. He would be going from 2 high-pressure situations in Toronto and Edmonton, to a low pressure situation in Montreal. He might rebound enough to be serviceable(tradeable w/ salary retention at some point in the future). Edmonton has a reputation over recent years of being a goaltender graveyard. It's possible the Campbell that showed flashes of brilliance in the LA years and early Toronto years is still there. A year in the minors and another shot in the NHL in case of injury or next year might do him well.
  2. It is the same team, but they don't have the offense bailing them out this year. It's easy to keep goals against down when you're riding the momentum of scoring a lot. I think the next couple of weeks will determine if the Oilers can make the playoffs or not. Either way I think changes will be made, McDavid and Draisaitl are in the prime, so they have to worry about squandering it and either of them wanting out. Draisaitl only has 2 more years left and McDavid only has 3 on their contracts.
  3. Rumors have been swirling for a week now about Woodcroft getting canned. With his ejection last night, it's clear he's grasping at straws to get the team going. Maybe player-wise nothing is planned for the short term, but those plans will quickly change as the window is closing fast on the Oilers playoff hopes. They realistically need to get to .500 by January to have a remote chance to make the playoffs. Which would involve quite the turn around in the short term.
  4. I knew the Tampa Bay situation was bleak. I would doubt Carolina makes a deal with Montreal unless they are really desperate. I could see Allen for Andersson plus if it were to happen.
  5. The cupboards are bare in Edmonton, and even barer in Tampa Bay. Edmonton has a few prospects that could make NHL impact, while Tampa Bay has a few prospect that are a wish and a prayer. Any deal with Tampa Bay would be from picks.
  6. Seeing as Montréal is in desperate need of moving a goalie and Edmonton is desperate to get goaltending. How about a crazy proposal. To Edmonton Allen To Montréal Campbell, $1.15m retained Xaveir Bourgault Oilers get a hot goalie as they desperately need goaltending. The cap hit is a wash for the first 2 years, but Edmonton gets out of most of Campbell's cap hit in year 3 and 4. They have been trying to move him for nearly a year anyway. Montréal uses Price's LTIR for Campbell, who can be sent to the minors or further retained in an attempt to move, which would be doubtful anytime soon. They get a good RW prospect that is still in the minors, looking to get NHL icetime this year. The biggest downside is Campbell's contract runs a year longer than Price's LTIR. By this time anything can happen, from cap space being freed up by trades or the possibility of Campbell playing well enough to be traded. This would imply Montembeault and Primeau would be 1/2, with Campbell being in the minors to save some of the cap hit and only used in case of an injury. Nobody will claim him off waivers.
  7. It’s what the TSN announcers were saying, multiple times, during the Arizona game. That is my only insight into it.
  8. Dvorak will be off LTIR and is expected to be ready for Saturday. This will free Monahan from the 3rd line and he will most likely center the 2nd line between Slaf and Newhook. I would imagine this means Anderson goes back to the top line regardless of RHP is hurt or not.
  9. One team played last night, but it wasn't the team that played poorly in the 3rd and couldn't stay out of the box.
  10. Pretty sure that was the make-up call for the Keller penalty.
  11. I'm not even sure the Keller hit on Matheson should of been a penalty.
  12. They do, but at the same time, they are far better than last year at taking away the pass. So at least Allen can focus on the shooter in a high-danger spot, instead of the shooter and a potential pass. Baby steps.
  13. I missed all but the last 2 minutes of the first. I don't know what's worse, the tight camera angles or Craig Button. Button started talking and stopped mid-sentence near the end of the period, and never did finish his sentence.
  14. Montreal Canadiens (5-2-2) - 12 pts Arizona Coyotes (4-4-1) - 9 pts Caufield - Suzuki - Harvey-Pinard Anderson - Newhook - Slafkovsky Pearson - Monahan - Gallagher Armia - Evans - Pezzetta Matheson - Barron Harris - Kovacevic Xhekaj - Guhle Montembeault Keller – Hayton – Schmaltz Maccelli – Bjugstad – Crouse Carcone – Cooley – Boyd O’Brien – McBain – Kerfoot Moser – Durzi Valimaki – Dumba Stetcher – Brown Ingram Projected lineups.
  15. I think you’re overthinking it. Whether it was intentional or an oversight, the responsibility is on Ottawa to provide it. The list was submitted, so Ottawa knew there was a list. There’s nobody to blame but Ottawa.
  16. Done deal, TSN is reporting he resigned. Which means he was offered the option to resign or be fired. He's been on the hot seat since the beginning of the season for mismanaging the cap and not being able to sign Pinto. The gambling suspension was not related to Pinto not signing by all reports I've read. Ottawa didn't need much of a push to part with him. Going to be interesting to see what he does next. You can't think any team really has him high on their list after botching a trade this bad and mismanaging the team's cap. It wouldn't be overly shocking if other GMs are reluctant to deal with him as well.
  17. Everything is coachable, as long as the player is receptive to the coaching.
  18. It used to, but since the instigator penalty, it's greatly taken away the self-policing of players.
  19. It was a dangerous, dirty hit. For most situations, I would agree with you but for that particular play, regardless of team, I'm not opposed to it. It obviously taught Columbus nothing as they've gotten their 2nd boarding penatly in less than 10 minutes of play.
  20. They probably will overpay. Before the season Nylander was holding out to see what Matthews was going to get. I read a report saying Nylander would only consider a discount if Matthews took one, and Mathew’s did not take one. I don’t see Nylander staying with Toronto, their cap space doesn’t allow for another $10m+ player. I doubt they trade him before the deadline unless they aren’t making the playoffs, which is almost a certainty that they are. If I were to put money in it, I would bet on a sign and trade before free agency. It won’t get full value of a trade, but they wouldn’t be losing him for nothing.
  21. I’ve also seen rumours of Armia for Mantha one for one. Caps get a lower per year cap hit with 1 extra year, where Habs get a higher cap hit for this year only as Mantha’s deal expires this year. I would say in that scenario Montreal wouldn’t likely retain any salary and tie up the last retention spot for an additional year. I also don’t know enough about Washington’s situation to know if they would even have interest in Armia. It was just a rumour I read.
  22. At the time Toffoli was traded it was the right move. As for bringing him back, it's a simple question of what are the objectives next season? A serious cup run is very doubtful, so no reason to bring him back. Making the playoffs to give the kids some experience is a possibility, but do you NEED Toffoli for that or do you expect this group to get that done with the progress in their development? If you need Toffoli to make the playoffs for that, then this group needs a bit of reworking to accomplish it on their own. I don't really see a reason to bring Toffoli in at this stage of the rebuild under any circumstance. The only reason I would see a reason is if management has a dramatic shift and wants to make a cup run immediately, which would be very counter productive from where they are now. This isn't a knock on Toffoli at all, I just don't believe it's good for the team or Toffoli at this stage.
  23. Ugh, 4 guys collapsed to the net on the PK and nobody was covering anyone and nobody in shooting lanes either.
  24. You're right, it was the 1-1-2 last year and I didn't like that either, it wasn't the diamond last year.
  25. I mean that attempt at the breakout of their own zone was just comedy. No New Jersey players in their own zone and they still couldn't get the puck out.
