What about Florian?
you are right, I was surprised by that one but the kid is really good.
The names on @GHT120 's list had too many old names, and I woul dbe surprised Koivu JR is favoured by this management team.

Longer shot for certain ... but Alexei Zhitnik, Joe Juneau and Steve Kasper were 81st overall picks ... Brian Gionta and Adam Henrique were 82nd ... and Matthew Barnaby and Matt Murray were 83rd overall picks ... so, there is always HOPE.
I do not believe HughGort have any sentimentalism towards the history of the franchise or are any interest in dipping into nepotism.I think that ship is parked on the marketing department and away from hockey decision.

I'm not rooting for Roy. While he was a superb player for the Habs, ultimately he put himself ahead of the team and left. It wasn't all him, but the decision was his. Had he stayed, we might have won another Cup.
I understand the situation, so I'm not holding a grudge, but neither am I going to root for him.
I am rooting for Roy, very unlikely he wins this series, but I am rooting for him.
He is a passionate hockey "lifer" and has a very intense coaching style, while showing his deep knowledge-of and respect-for the game in interviews. I think he is an interesting coach to follow.

I like this chart mapping all probabilities leading to a cup final:

Both Kovacevic and Barron are affordable RD choices. And neither one is old, especially for D--Kovacevic is still only 26. I think either one could be a fit for the Habs' D corps, but probably not both. The decision between the two will depend not only on their skills but also on which style (offensive or defensive) is a better fit--and which of the two will have better trade value.
But, yes, I agree that both can be credible NHL D-men, although probably not both of them in Montreal.
don't forget that MTL is cursed and that key players get hurt at the worst of times. Having extra depth on RD can only be positive

I agree there is hope, you just have more of that hope than I do.
If the plan is to move Guhle back to the left side that would leave Reinbacker, Mailloux, Kovasevic, Barron. With Harris as a pivot.
Barron has opportunities there
Guhle is more effective on LD. Once Savard is moved or retires (if he stays) Reinbacher, Mailloux, and Barron would be a solid RD. With Kovacevic as a ackup in case of injuries, if he is not traded by that time.
Of course, it depends on how well they all develop

This makes perfect sense and I expect it will be how HuGo approach it.
I know that I’m in the minority here but I think Kovacevic is far ahead of Barron.
Kovasevic is pushing the boundaries of second pairing (he can’t handle it yet).
Barron is pushing the boundaries of #7 Dman
IMO
If you take their age difference as an indicator of the potential for the younger one to improve. Kovacevic (26) has had 4 more years than Barron (22) to develop.
At 22, Kovacevic was in the AHL: 29Games 2g 12a 14pts
Barron's combined AHL;NHL: 80Games 9g 15a 24pts
So, IMHO, there is hope for Barron.

Im not sure that Barron has a NHL career, I think he is on the borderline.
Having said that, I noticed an improvement in his Dzone play when he got called up in the late season. He made simple box out plays and was much better at covering his man.
Maybe he has enough growth left to have a bottom pairing role.
in my potato head eyes, he would be a good replacement for Kovacevic down the road. -
I watched the end of the NYI game. I am cheering for St-Patrick.
They were in defending mode early in the 3rd and static in their zone (per RDS commentators) ; so at that point I thought that they may screw up. But I was still hoping for a main for them.
10 hours ago, Sir_Boagalott said:Well, that certainly wasn't what I tuned in to see. Geez, what a collapse that was. After the Laffs game I put on the NYI vs Cannes game.
When I put the game on it was 3-2 NYI with about 3:30 mins left. After watching for 1 min the Cannes scored to tie it up and then 10 seconds later they scored again to go up 4-3. They got an empty netter 1 min later. Apparently, the NYI were up 3-0 before the 3rd period started and only had a few shots on net the entire period. The Cannes are now up 2-0 in the series.

Can’t believe the Islanders blew a three goal lead. Not sure they have a chance -
I watched quite a few Laval Rocket games this season and I do not think Mailloux is ready.
Despite the criticism, Barron does a better job in the NHL than Mailloux.
Also, Hutson needs time to develop his potential. Let’s not rush him.

I'm 40 yo. I've never seen the Leafs have any success, I've never been upset at the Leafs for beating us.
I will never understand the hate until they elimintate us. This is why I want them to clear Boston. Once this is done, they can get beaten by anyone else, but I don't want the Bruins anywhere near another Stanley Cup.
yes, I don't that little puk Marchand anywhere near the cup.

Yes @xXx..CK..xXx is the 2023-2024 winner having got the exact total of 76 points. There were a number of close predictions this year. Seems HabsWorld is becoming more realistic about our team.
I was too optimistic on the club, I thought they would do much better.
Congratulations @xXx..CK..xXx !

That doesn't necessarily mean there is no chance of his trading a "crown jewel" ... just means his price point would be higher.
are you saying that there is a chance of trading a "crown jewel" (if I take out the double negative), or with the qualifier "necessarily", that it is necessary that he trades a "corwn jewel" at a higher point?
IMHO, there is no rush to move any of the young Ds before the return for Savard is maximized. Then, a decision on any of the prospects will be easier to take with more games to base a decision on.

some disappointment among the Laval Rocket veterans, feeling that some of the veterans that didn;t play may have done better than a few of the 10 rookies that played tonight.

To give the youngsters maximum exposure to allow them to best prepare for next season ... they are the future of the Habs far more than anyone whose getting another contract depends on how they play tomorrow ... not "nice", but it is the role for an AHL team.
I hope they do not do that. It would be a mistake by J-F Houle if he manages his bench like a house league team

LOTS of ice-time for Xhekaj and Tuch tomorrow?
why? It's not an exhibition game. Many AHLers on the Rocket team are playing for contracts. If the Habs pushes to play the kids more than deserving Rocket veterans, I will be disappointed for them
Stephens, Maillet, Andersson, Cederqvist, Durandeau

I am sad for the kids, they deserved to continue playing.
I have posted it a few times over the season, I feel the Habs organization should have helped Laval better to allow them to compete in the playoffs.
