  1. The only draft left from PG is Gallagher (5th round) more lucky than planned the only other player he traded for still in the league are Bournival and Eller He was horrible and the reason we suck now. MB has done better
  2. I hope you are not referring to my use of that key to sort out centres on the NHL webpage. I don care much for that stat but out of the choices I had it was better that +/- or PIM Go Jets Go !!!
  3. I think we agree. I am not ready for à the 2020/2021 goal yet: I was told that trading PK would make us cup contenders Short of that, I want MB fired now and a full rebuild. But if MB can fix his mess this summer, I'll give him the chance
  4. Help me out Commandant: which centers did I miss that could be had by the Habs and turn it into a cup contending team?
  5. Obviously. But the approach to the draft and free agency would be similar
  6. The were where the CH was last year. Radu's departure set us back. Price/Weber season starts doomed us. This year we need to look at it as if it was 2016: out of the playoffs, good drafts and 1 year away from expansion but with a 2-3year window
  7. I was looking for which centres could be had in a trade without emptying the club like Gauthier did I had sorted them by points and started arbitrarily after the "franchise" centres... I just wanted a few plausible candidates to trade for. I also did something similar for upcoming UFA centres... my is that either we keep Patches and fill the two LD holes or we rebuild. Trading the captain will not make this club a cup contender
  8. That's the filter I used on the NHL page: >30yrs >30A >51%FO center take a look and you' see there are not that many available after the franchise players
  9. Another great opportunity to see McCarron chase the play and practice his skating
  10. Oh! I tried , didn't know it couldn't be done. i thought the CH did something similar last year where they had a bunch of UFAs before the expansion draft
  11. I am not very good at playing armchair GM. But from going over the 2018 UFA center list and the top league centers that are not concession players, the choices are not very good. There is only a handful of >30A/50pt centers with over 51FO% Trading for these 2C centers is within reach of the CH: O'Reilly (bad contract but productive), Zibanejad, Carter, even overpaid Duchene or Stastny, etc To me, it makes more sense to package a middle-6 20 goal winger with draft picks and prospects for one of these guys than to trade away Pacioretti. Just for asset management reasons. Iw we trade Patches we risk depleting the CH prospect pipeline like Gauthier did (and MB did his first year) for short term relief and still no chance for a cup. If Weber/Pacioretti/Petry/Price have 2-3 years of elite production left. I would trade for a better 2C center than Danault to push him down one or two lines. I think the CH would benefit more from landing two solid top 4 LDs than to trade Patches and loose those points from LW. Lehks, Chucky, Byron, Scherbak are 20G wingers, Gally may repeat 30 but most likely will be under that. I do not want to trade Patches unless we go into reset/rebuild mode.
  12. (replying to my post ) Going into the draft, with 4x 2nd round draft picks and 6 picks in the top 100. Assuming we do not get 1st overall on April 28: I would: I would try to trade a couple of these top picks and one of Lernout, Valiev, Rielly and a throw in for Ekman-Larsson or Fowler to play with Weber: OE-L/Fowler - Weber Mete-Petry Alzner-Juulsen If not, I would try to sign a free agent among Ian Cole, Hickey or De Haan to play with Petry: Mete-Weber Cole/Hickey/De Haan-Petry Alzner-Juulsen === Then I would try really hard to sign Tavares, if that fails I would try to trade for O'Reilly, Duchene, Zibanejad or Carter for a swap of 1st round picks (to the other team's advantage), a 2nd round pick, DeLaRose and one of McCarron or Rychel: #67-O'Reilly/Duchene/Zibanejad/Carter-#62 #27-#92-#11 #38-#24-#65 #20-#49/#42-#41 #54 I think these two trades to fill two holes would improve the team significantly
  13. I took a look at what the expansion draft may be for Seattle and changed things a little bit. For example, I thnik they may be giving some 1 year contract extensions to RFAs this year to avoid protecting them in the expansion draft. (I would try to sign all, but for different reasons.) NHL: Niemi, Danault (1 yr), de LaRose (1 yr) AHL & NHL depth: Rychel (1 yr), Carr (1 yr), Valiev (1 yr), L. Shaw (1 yr), McCarron (1 yr) AHLers: Cracknell, Terry, Fucale, Eisenschmid, Gregoire, Parisi I am hoping we will have to waive: Carr, Valiev, L. Shaw and McCarron because the lineup in Montreal would have improved so much this summer... hopeful thinking
  14. They may be top 6/4 on the Canadiens but I am not sure they would be on a cup contending team. That was the point I was trying to make: we have some decent prospects with some upside, but nothing that turns the CH into cup contenders anytime soon
  15. Before making that conclusion, I wanted to look at the trade records and standings for each year. I think MB's plan has been to try to build through the draft and to only do bottom of the dumpster trades to get the CH over the hump. I think 2017-2018 was the bottom of the barrel to flush out Pierre Gauthier's fire sale
  16. That's what I was looking at Machine! Top 100 draft picks we have in our system: 2012: Chucky (ok), Collberg (ok trade), Thrower (hurt, bust), Bozon (got sick), Vail (bust) 2013: Rychel (got in trade, 4th liner), McCarron (4th liner at best), DLR (3rd liner at best), Lehkonen (could be top 6), Crisp/Andrigettho/Reway 2014: Sherbak (could be top 6), Valiev (depth), Lernout (depth), 2015: Juulsen (bottom pair D with upside), Vejdemi (???), 2016: Sergachev (traded), Mete (surprise), Bitten (could be 3rd liner) That's not too bad...
  17. I should have written that differently Metallica. He been stubborn by not trading McCarron before, and keeping the young core (Chucky, Gally, Lehks, A. shaw) but you are correct about those two trades
  18. I was looking at the Canadiens drafts since the Gauthier years. And even if the team was a playoff team, the prospect pool was barren. From the PG legacy only Gallagher (5th round) made it. The team has done better managing drafts since MB took over, trying to build through the draft. one thing I think he has been stubborn about is not to let go a prospect for short term success. he even has hedged McCarron with Kerby Rychel and Lernout with Valiev. Not having 2nd round drafts in 2014-2016 was shortsighted, and an error he is trying not to repeat To the topic of the thread: I think that to fix the Canadiens, development has to improve. Letting go of older greedy players was the right call: but this year they have to hit a home run in the draft and to get rid of marginal bottom 6 players we like to make room for legit top 6 players: Byron, the two Shaws, Carr, Hudon, Froese, etc.
  19. Just our luck, we just signed him and he is already hurt *<:o)
  20. I listened to the press conference and he didn't impress me there, he was underwhelming but listening to the interview afterwards he sounded ready to make the changes needs to redeem himsel he better deliver
  21. MB said a bit more on his interview on 98.5fm. He seemed more sincere in French than at the press meeting in English. He took responsibility for not acting early enough when he saw warning signs at training camp. He also re-stated that he did set the market for Radu with his initial offer made in January, but the agent's term request was for 8 yrs, that didn't change until June. He restated that his offer was the exact same as what he got from Dallas not less because of taxes. He also took the blame for misjudging (his word) on the quality of his défense. He said he wants to be the one to mend this
